This was the first time we'd had this type of a holiday so I have nothing to compare it to, however I found the whole experience quite average (ie it wasn't horrible, but at the same time it wasn't fantastic).
The island itself is lovely. It's small but the gardens and pools are all well maintained. You can walk around the island, however the 'rainforest walk' is a bush track which is steep at times with lots of steps and tree roots to step over, so you would want to be steady on your feet. The island also has plenty of wild animals roaming around (rock wallabies, birds and lizards), which is nice, along with all the wild marine animals (turtles and the reef fish). A highlight is the man made reef where they keep several sting rays and sharks plus other reef fish and coral. They have free daily talks by a reef expert and feeding time or you can pay for additional stuff or you can just get lucky like we did and just be walking by and get a chance to hand feed and pat the sting rays.
The rooms all looked pretty standard, so I guess they differentiate based on the view. The decor was pretty standard and clean, but the towels and sheets were of a similar quality to those used in a public hospital.
I think everyone gets the buffet breakfast included and it's pretty good. I think the adults only section is a good idea and it looked very peaceful and quite in there. The pancake machines are a disaster as they always seemed to be broken down or there was a long line. I don't understand why the chef cooking the fried eggs couldn't be making pancakes as well? We also liked the dinner buffets as they were good value/quality and low stress. The Mermaids restaurant was very good quality and priced accordingly for dinner. However for lunch it was a little expensive. The Fish Bowel food was very ordinary. The pool cafe and the bakery had pre-made salads and sandwiches for lunch. And the lobby coffee shop could be open longer. It closed at 1pm.
The worst thing about the island is the smoking. As you were sitting in the beautiful Lobby restaurant and bar area (all open up to the outside) the smokers are sat just outside so all the smoke wafts straight it.
Overall the pools are the highlight here. So if you're looking for that type of holiday Daydream would be perfect. But try and get it on a good rate.
