“Beautiful Little Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Enjoyed our 3 day stay in a deluxe reef suite. The Reef Suite features split level luxury of 66 m2, large king size bed, spacious lounge area, separate bath and shower, and private balcony and had ocean glimpses. Loved the snorkelling, lots of fish, Turtles & a variety of coral.
Best snorkelling around the island is out near the jetty.
Staff very helpfull and friendly from the momemt we boarded the catamaran .
Buffet breakfast was most enjoyable.Sunset drinks with the other quests was lovely. So much is included in the price which is just great.I.e breakfast, sunset drinks, snorkelling equipment ,stinger suits, guided rainforest eco walks, beach umbrella & chairs, fish feeding, glass bottom boat rides, kayaking, windsurfing, stand up paddle boards and the return catarmaran trip. The guests have a seperate pool to the daytrippers , and when you enter the quest only area you feel like you are in another place.
The only part we didn't like was the daytrippers, as the Island went from a tranquil place to madness, but when the last boat has left (approx 4.30) then the tranquility of Green Island returns.

Room Tip: Deluxe Reef Suites are lovely and private.Stay during the week, not weekends and NOT in school holid...

Gorgeous eco resort one hour by catamaran from Cairns. Very family friendly - goes a bit mad by day with daytrippers - but lovely in evenings when just the resort guests remain. Very friendly and helpful staff; well appointed, quiet rooms in a leafy setting; excellent restaurant. The trip out to Great Barrier was great, with excellent snorkelling - also great snorkelling off the resort beach with turtles. Three nights a perfect stay.

Room Tip: Top level better: it's walk up.

ALL THIS IS FREE, generous and amazing: Clear water, huge buffet breakfast, amazing soft and hard corals, colourful fish, guided rainforest eco walks, educational fish feeding, kayaking, windsurfing, snorkelling equipment & wetsuits/stinger suits, stand-up paddle boarding, friendly, amazing & helpful staff (Thanks Lauren and Laura!!), fantastic ferry service w/ luggage portering to and from Cairns, 30 minutes of social sunset drinks (beer, sparkling white wine, fruit juices) w/ potato chips, chocolates on your pillows at turndown, beach towels, beach bag, delicious filtered water in various locations, glass bottom boat coral/fish sighting trip, beachfront lounge chairs & large beach umbrellas, lifeguards, daily weather/tide charts delivered nightly to your room...

Those are the facts of the trip but what I need to say is how much you will LOVE Green island. My heart is still there. A small, sunny, exciting, adventurous place. I'll never forget the feeling of peering off the jetty, upon arrival, into the most stunning crystal clear, aquamarine water and seeing vivid and striking corals and fish. My husband & I couldn't fault it. I'm pretty fussy and love a bargain and I really feel like you get your money's worth here. A tip for the budget watchers out there; consider bringing some food in your suitcase. We packed nuts, cheeses, salami, crackers, chips, olives, sundried tomatoes and 2 minute noodles. It helps to have these sorts of things to snack on as snorkelling really works up an appetite. But, lunch is INCREDIBLY affordable. We shared a family sized (HUGE) box of wedges one afternoon and both felt full for $8.00!!! My husband was buying beer for $7.50. (We have paid more in St. Kilda(Melbourne). He got 2 burgers (beef, chicken) for dinner via room service and cost about $20.00 came w/ chips and salad - a much cheaper option than the restaurant which is $36 for a main (delicious and generous enough).

We spent 4 nights and I feel that was the perfect length. It was just the right amount to see and do everything on offer and to feel very relaxed.

We have just returned from an amazing 3 nights on the most beautiful island paradise. The service was excellent, the staff were so friendly and welcoming and consistently went the extra mile for us, we felt very spoilt. The surroundings were absolutely stunning, being at one with nature was an unreal experience. The restaurant was fantastic, the breakfast buffet was outstanding and the dinner menu selection was fabulous. We did a picnic hamper one night which was so delicous. We had this on the beach and were lucky enough to see some turtles coming into shore. Such a lovely way to spend an evening celebrating my friends birthday. We would definitely recommend Green Island we were really sad to leave, such a fabulous place. Cannot wait to go back ;)

We spent one night here early September 2012, while exploring tropical North Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef. We had read several reviews about Green Island, and many people said it was the highlight of their trip to spend a night (or more) on the Island.
You can do a day trip to the island from Cairns and enjoy the unique "rainforest on an island" setting, or you can choose to spend a night on the island. Come 4.30pm when all the day-trippers head back to Cairns, you have the entire island to yourself (and other guests of course!). Sunset drinks are served down by the beach, preceded by an amazing 15min of fish-feeding from the jetty. An evening nature walk was organised to see some of the islands local inhabitants.
The resort itself is fantastic, and off limits to the day-trippers, set amongst the rain forest. The room, a king bed studio, was well appointed and elegant. The staff were always helpful, a provide a briefing once you arrive on the island. Your luggage is transferred from Cairns right to your room. There is complimentary use of non-powered water sports equipment, including snorkelling gear (highly recommend snorkelling under the jetty - the fish are abundant!). The breakfast was top notch, and dinner was a real treat but not over-the-top expensive.
Couldn't really fault this place. There isn't a huge amount to do, but relaxation and enjoying the setting is what its all about. It was also interesting to read about how they are doing there bit to minimise the impact on the island and maintain an eco-friendly approach.

What an amazing and magical place. It goes without saying that Green Island is gorgeous but to be able to have it to ourselves for a few hours as resort guests was priceless. We were literally on the Great Barrier reef for 4 straight days and it was BREATHTAKING!

The staff here was amazing and so friendly. The rooms were charming and comfortable, and as clean as clean can be considering we were tracking in sand all day long. :)

The food was also surprisingly great! We were worried we would be suckered into "resort food" as they're the only food on the island but every meal was really satisfying, albeit pricey, but you pay for what you get! We also did a picnic basket one night to eat on the beach which was such a fun experience.

We cannot wait to go back!

We have just had a fabulous five nights at Green Island Resort and thoroughly recommend it.

Green Island is a popular day trip destination, which adds life and colour during the day. There is so much to do for such a small island – excellent snorkelling (amazing coral, fish, reef sharks, the odd stingray and lots of turtles!), glass bottom boat, visit the crocodile park, relax by the pool or under an umbrella on a sun lounge on the beach, wander along the boardwalk through the rainforest (it won’t take you long but the information boards provide fascinating information about the island’s history), or just chill out on your balcony with a book.

After all the day guests depart, Resort guests have the island to themselves and can enjoy free sunset drinks on the beach (great way to meet fellow guests), watch the fish being fed from the jetty, stargazing on a clear night and night nature walks.

Our Reef Suite was exactly as pictured on the Green Island Resort website. It was spacious and comfortable and the shower was incredible – excellent water pressure!

Living on the Island you are a captive audience when it comes to food. We found ourselves spending about $40 for lunch for two adults without drinks (although the salads are so large you could share them!) and dinner was usually around $150-160 including two courses and a bottle of wine. They also offer picnic hampers where you can take your food off to the beach (with lantern and picnic blanket) for a quiet, romantic dinner under the stars.

All the staff were very friendly and really anxious to assist whenever they could. Nothing was too much trouble.

We took advantage of the Day Spa to each have a massage – not cheap but definitely worthwhile! We also went on the Outer Reef day trip with Great Adventures where we snorkelled past the most colourful coral I’ve ever seen! The semi-submersible was a great way to see the edge of the reef, amazing fish and more coral without getting wet! If you're spending a few days on the island then I'd definitely recommend taking a day out for this trip.

Room Tip: All the Reef King Suites seem to run along the outside edge of the Resort (separated from the path a...
