“relaxing quick break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013 via mobile

We wanted a quick break away and had the fun of re-discovering Great Keppel Island (GKI) whilst using the Holiday Village as our base. Geoff runs a relaxed but comfortable village. From our ferry pick-up to our drop off at the ferry, nothing was too much trouble. The kitchen is kept in good order and the surrounds are very peaceful. We were there during the Easter school holidays and there was plenty of room for everyone. We stayed in a tent and were very comfortable.

We were blessed to experience a fantastic stay at Great Keppel Holiday Village. Geoff and his staff were just like family, nothing was too much trouble. The tents are very comfortable, full size real beds with sprung mattresses, very clean with fan, lights and great balcony to sit out and enjoy the native possums and wildlife. Showers were hot and clean. The island is paradise with white sandy beaches great diving, swimming and crystal clear waters and bush walking for ever. Great value perfect place for a recharge with nature. We will be back ASAP this time for longer.

Unspoiled Paradise!!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the tents all tents are scattered around the gardens

My wife and I have recently returned from a small stay in a fantastic spot at great Keppel holiday village we originally only intended 1 night stay but we stayed 2 , if we had more time and had taken more food we would have stayed longer . However the the 2 nights was certainly enough to convince us to make a return trip sometime in the future , we stayed in a tent room and it was fantastic it was clean and well set out , and certainly 5 star relaxation . They provide free snorkelling equipment and let me say it certainly is amongst the main attractions on the island , the wildlife including turtles is fantastic coloured reef fish galore and coral reefs in abundance . The water is very warm and crystal clear . It is a bush walkers paradise as well , if you are prepared to make the effort you can walk for half an hour and have the best beaches to yourself , absalutly fantastic . If you do want to go over to the island for a few days make sure you take adequate food and refreshments , pleasure is garanteed , oh and take care of the bloody possums and goannas as they are sometimes to friendly

Room Tip: There are no air conditioners at the village so I preferred the tent rooms rather than the cabins as...

We stayed at the Holiday Village on Great Keppel Island with our 2 boys over Christmas this year. We loved it! It was one of the most relaxing, unpretentious places we have ever enjoyed. Although basic ( part of the charm) the amenities and fully equipped kitchen were always clean and well kept. No high heels, hair driers or lipstick here girls! Bring your own food as the few island restaurants are not reliable. We enjoyed the company of a wonderful mix of international and local personalities of all ages. Thank you to our wonderful host Geoff for your hospitality and generous giving of yourself and your time. We hope to see you again in the not too distant future.

These very reasonably priced tents provide for a great jumping off ground to explore this beautiful island in continued commercial decline. The staff is friendly, the ownership attentive, personable and accessible and the public spaces clean and as well maintained as they can possibly be. The generators stay on pretty late. I would chose no other option on the main beach. The island itself is magnificent and a beach going, nature loving bushwalkers' paradise. The infrastructure for long bushwalks onto remote and beautiful beaches is still very much there -- but the people are not. Everyone has disappeared - I found myself hiking with a stick to remove the spiderwebs from the trails. The closure of the main resort is evident thoughout and the impact is undeniable. It does not take long for nature to start to reclaim it's territory. What is your pleasure? Full service luxury where you sit in one spot for eight hours enjoying sugary frozen drinks? You do not belong here until the proposed redevelopment is complete. Do you enjoy the challenge of walking long stretches of long beaches accessible via a network of walking trails with wild goats, blue tongues, snakes, peacocks and possums while catering for yourself? This is the spot for you!

Great Keppel is now a very sleepy island and the surrounding islands have very few visitors. This place is the only accomodation on the island I saw worth staying at. Modest but well cared for and clean. We stayed in one of the tents with a nice comfy bed. Community amenities and well spec'd kitchen facilities, Bring all your own food. Some prepared food available on the Island but limited to one outlet. Very relaxing, great service and good value.

From the moment you take your shoes off to step straight off the catamaran and onto the sand, you feel relaxed and welcome. There's a lovely mix of OS backpackers, families, singles, groups and couples and meal times in the communal kitchen and around the long wooden table are always friendly and interesting. The gorgeous beaches and abundant wildlife would impress anyone and the reef snorkelling is extremely safe and accessible. Our 2 children loved playing the games on the shelf, I borrowed and read a few books and our only expense was an icecream treat from the Rainbow Hut each day. On the one day it was cloudy, we climbed the 2 lookouts to Mt Wyndham and passed the old homestead and shearing shed to Leeke's Beach and along the coast at low tide. No TV, internet or computer games and lights out at 11pm made for a wonderful stress-free family holiday and we're planning our return trip already. Thankyou Geoff for sharing you little piece of paradise!

Room Tip: The 2 A-frame cabins cost more but you have your own fridge, 6 louvred windows and double sliding do...
