“Great day out with Hayden!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Hayden was very friendly and knowledgeable and provided a very good tour and commentary. He really seemed to love what he does and his passion was very noticeable and commented on by several passengers.

We thought the price was just about right for a World Heritage area and the tour highlights also very good.

Even though we have visited the Beauty spots on the tour twice before over the years, we enjoyed it thoroughly.

Previous tours that we have done have been smaller in number and included a BBQ lunch and billy tea set up by the tour guide,, a nice Aussie touch but understand this would be difficult with the larger numbers in the big 4WD buses.

Really enjoyed our day out and away from the resort. We have no complaints, do it!

“I wouldn't bother!!!! Disappointing!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

We had a horrible experience, it is the worst tour we have ever been on, the bus ride throughout the whole day was distressing, so rough and it felt like we were on a little boat out in the roughest seas. This aggravated an existing back condition, and made us feel nauseous and concerned for our safety all day. The food was disgusting, tasted like it was 2 weeks old, even the rice which you wouldn't think a cook / chef or even a 14 yo could get wrong. There were blowflies in the bus and later at the food hall they were crawling on the food. The canteen/deli next door had marginally better food available which we were forced to purchase. Then in the afternoon our bus broke down and we were given an alternative. Just when you didn't think it could get worse, it did, this bus was infested with mosquitoes. The attractions were few and not particularly interesting nor attractive but of course this is subjective so perhaps other enjoyed it, the highlight was Lake Mackenzie but it was too cold to swim in by the time we got there. Also the driver was rude and arrogant, especially towards the foreign travellers. There was so much more but I think I have forgotten it because it was such an awful experience. A real disappointment especially as we spent a longer period of time in the town for this particular tour.

Dear Markerina
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience on tour - it is never our intention for guests to leave unhappy and I apologise that your experience did not meet your expectations in a number of areas and that you did not find Fraser Island's natural beauty spots to your taste.

For readers not familiar, Fraser Island is a remote, World Heritage listed island that does not have sealed roads (except at two resorts). The condition of the sand tracks is very much weather dependent - not enough rain and they are soft and powdery; a good balance and they are flat and hard to drive on; too much and roots can be exposed. For the comfort of our passengers, we have worked with MAN to build custom-designed, four-wheel-drive buses that best handle the off-roading conditions.

Please be assured that we have passed on your comments regarding food to our Management team, who will investigate - you didn't mention the date that you travelled, but we do take online feedback - particularly those comments you made about our driver and will be addressing this in further training sessions with the team.

We wish you the best of luck with your future travels.

“Over prices”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Quite a nice tour but very expensive for what is was. Yes we toured the island and stopped at the lake which was beautiful. Lunch was only okay and then back on the bus. Didn't feel at all that we got good value for money. It cost $550 for a family of four and feel this was very overpriced.

Thanks for taking the time to post and we're pleased you enjoyed Fraser Island. We use online feedback to improve our product and have noted your comments regarding your lunch. Please accept our sincere apologies that you don't feel you got value for money. Our touring prices are comparable with others of a similar nature in Australia, but I have passed your comments to our Group General Manager to review.

“A long day in the bus”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We had pre-booked an all-day tour of Fraser Island, not really knowing what to expect. Fraser Island itself is lovely, and the tour was designed to give one a taste of all its different aspects, not only the amazing beach, but also its beautiful forests and shady creeks, rocky outcrops and ancient trees. It was indeed a lovely place, but we spent a great deal more time on the bus than outside it, first picking people up from various locations, then after the ferry ride, getting from one place to another. Although we had been encouraged to take swimming gear, it would have been impossible to swim, as we were given very little time at the stops (other than lunch at the cafe in the hotel). Since the island is made entirely of sand, the "roads" can be extremely rutted and make difficult driving (I would never attempt it myself, even in the best of 4-wheel drives). In retrospect, the way to do this trip is to stay for a night or two, either camping or in the hotel. We saw wild dingos there, both on the beach and by the ferry port. Our driver/guide was very pleasant and friendly.

Dear AndTedcametoo
Thanks for taking your time to review, we appreciate your candid feedback and agree wholeheartedly that an overnight tour certainly gives you more of a taste of Fraser Island.

Fraser Island has fairly dry, rough roads at the moment (as we haven't had any significant rainfall since July last year) and the day tours do cover quite a lot of distance in order to showcase some of the island's most interesting spots. Our vehicles are custom built to ensure they are able to travel around the island - within the designated speed limits - 30km/h on the inland tracks and 80km on the beach - in the most efficient manner and maximise time at the various stops.

For those contemplating a tour, we offer a courtesy pick-up service from accommodation houses in and around Hervey Bay to a a strict timetable in order to meet the ferry departures.
In reading your comments it sounds like you were one of the first to be picked up early in the morning and we're sorry you felt you spend so much time on the bus.

Thanks again for the comments and best of luck with your Aussie adventure.

“Fantastic day out with a little baby on a shaky bus!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

We took today our 1 year old little man for a day trip on Fraser Island. First of all, our tour guide Hayden was incredibly knowledgeable about everything on the island. He also did an excellent job driving us around to amazing places via soft sand 'roads'. Thumbs up for Hayden!

The tour was very well organised and nothing let us down at any moment even though we were carrying our baby everywhere along with the group!

My brother and I took the scenic flight over the island which was also magnificent! I recommend it too.

Every place visited was worth it the stop and times well calculated allowing the best portion of time to spend at the best spot of all! Lake McEnzie! Just wonderful! If I could I'd have spent my whole day there. That lake is simply magical on a sunny blue sky day! Ignore anyone saying it's not like in the photos because indeed it is! I saw myself today a postcard just like the photos I took myself on this perfect day!

In summary, this is day tour I'd highly recommend for any families, couples or singles heading for just a day on the island.

Cheers!

Carlos
