“One of the best holiday ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

We went to Fitzroy Island for our anniversary. We spent 3 days there last week. The weather wasn't perfect, but still it was one of the best short holiday ever together with my husband. All the staff were so friendly, and we had a very nice spacious room with beautiful ocean view. The room has a big fridge with dish washer, nice verada as well. we enjoyed snorkelling, kayaking and tracking. Summitt walk was a challenge but it worth every effort. There were no need to swim too far to see so many different variety of fish, we even saw a big turtle in the water. This is a place definitely want to come back again and again.

We stayed here for 5 nights for our honeymoon and would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet, relaxing holiday. The resort was clean and the staff very friendly. We did have sugar ants in our room, however this is to be expecting in the tropics. The rooms and quite spacious and have everything you need.
With only 1 resort on the island, eating options are limited. Zephyrs is the restaurant and the food was excellent every time. The only other option is Foxys, which is more a bar, the drinks and service here were quite good, however the food was below average and choices limited. Wold recommend bringing plenty of food if you can carry it.
The snorkelling from the resort is fantastic and there are quite a few activities to do. The swim up pool bar is a must do and the cocktails are beautiful.

My adult daughter and I just came back from a 4day, 3 night stay on Fitzroy Island. All of the staff were a pleasure to see each day, and made us feel very welcomed. We stayed in the beach front cabin (thank you Sandy:) and enjoyed snorkeling the coral reef on our front door. We saw fish, rays, turtles, lion fish everyday! The food in the resorts resturant was EXCEPTIONAL to say the least. We looked forward to dinner every night over looking Home Bay. Jay and his resturant staff were delightful, and sharing our days snorkeling adventures with them was fun.
Hannah in the dive shop was helpful with the hiring of all our gear, and also sharing the days adventures with her. We totally relaxed on the island, nothing was rushed and everything was within an easy walk. There was no need to pay for any other outer reef dive trips as everything was there on Fitzroy Island. Be sure to visit the turtle rehabilitation centre there also!
We will be going there again and the island isn't full of tourists. We managed to spend all of our days snorkeling, in our own quiet, underwater garden on our very own door step. Yep, Nemo lives there. Christine

Room Tip: It's a 4 star hotel with a 5 star service.

Spent Easter weekend on Fitzroy Island. I have stayed there a few times over the years and it seems to be sliding down slowly. Accommodation is nice, if you like a hard bed, and well appointed. Ensure you leave your AC on or the rooms get very musty/mouldy very quickly. Do not stress abut the water being brown....it is the island bore water. Still drinkable apparently.

The first night the fire alarm went off for almost an hour. No visible staff members present and when we called reception we were inform maintenance were addressing a fault. Saw 1 staff member later who did not acknowledge the small delegation of guests using the reception area to escape the ear piercing siren. Spoke to staff the next day and all 3 were ignorant to the alarm and the disturbance???

The second night...no hot water and nobody answered the reception phone after hours.

Pool area is amazing, as is the swim up bar. But get there early as there are few sun beds, but they cannot fit anymore in. Bar staff should be asking guests who re sitting at the pool bar to move to let other guests in...and should ask them to take a bathroom break everyone and then....:-/

Kids everywhere which is great and add to the character and feel of the island.

Food in FoXY's Bar is AMAZING AND CHEAP! Go there!

Enjoyable stay.
We had a 1 bedroom suite. Very nice. Gorgeous bathroom. Comfortable bed. Loved how the lounge and the bedroom opened up to the deck with nice view to the sea. The Kitchen was well appointed. It would of been better if we had taken more food to utilise the kitchen better. At this time of the year the options for lunch were limited.
Zephyr restaurant was lovely - Foxys was average.
Great snorkelling we even saw a turtle and were glad to see the coral rejuvinating. Not so nice having to wear stinger suits. Not the most flattering garment but extremely practical.
Fantastic swim up bar. Thank you Jess - she was our fantastic friendly barmaid at the swim up bar - our wairtress at breakfast and again at dinner. Thank you Jess.
We meet Gus the 1.2metre iguana - nice to see glad we took a wide berth.
Only disappointment was we were told that there was a glass bottom tour included in our package deal. When we asked we were told that the boat had been damaged in a storm. I think that it would have been nice if we were told on arrival and compensated.
However really enjoyed the stay and would go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The suite was wonderful. We were on the third level great location.

I just came back from Fitzroy Island. What a lovely place to stay. I stayed for 2 nights in a suite. The suite was fully equipped with a kitchen. I wished I could have stayed longer. The boat took 45 minutes from Cairns and once we got there it was simply paradise. The owner Doug Gamble has rebuilt this island from the ground up after taking it over which apparently had been run into the ground. The pool has a swim up pool bar and serves delicious cocktails at reasonable prices. There is a restuarant there but we preferred to eat at foxys bar with live entertainment. Snowy played at lunchtime and after dinner. On the island there is diving trips available and scuba diving. There is a bush walk up to the summit and other tracks as well. If you want to really experience the island and camp out under the stars they have a camp ground in lush surroundings in front of the beach. The cost is $32 a night. The camp site comes with shower. and toilets. Many people I met had actually brought there own boats over and used the amenties that the island had to offer. Considering it is an island thats not far from Cairns the island was not over priced. The island has a cinema and is child friendly. From families to couples the island has something for everyone. The water was crystal clear and you could hire a kyack to cruise around the island.. I will defintely be back. Thankyou Doug and Glenn, the general manager for an amazing stay on your pristine island. Its just paradise. Leanne Mason Top Oz Travel Darwin NT

My husband and I stayed on the island 3-6 March. We had a great unit on the second floor over looking the ocean (as I requested). The unit was very comfy and very clean. The food was good particularly the breakfasts. They served great tasting gluten-free bread.
Basically the staff were friendly, helpful and well informed about what was going on, on the island. Two stood out though for their great service and professionalism, Jay and Wirginia (whos from Polond and her name is spelt with a W).

Room Tip: we had room 217 - 1 bedroomed self contained, excellent view
