“Relaxing carefree stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Enjoyable stay.
We had a 1 bedroom suite. Very nice. Gorgeous bathroom. Comfortable bed. Loved how the lounge and the bedroom opened up to the deck with nice view to the sea. The Kitchen was well appointed. It would of been better if we had taken more food to utilise the kitchen better. At this time of the year the options for lunch were limited.
Zephyr restaurant was lovely - Foxys was average.
Great snorkelling we even saw a turtle and were glad to see the coral rejuvinating. Not so nice having to wear stinger suits. Not the most flattering garment but extremely practical.
Fantastic swim up bar. Thank you Jess - she was our fantastic friendly barmaid at the swim up bar - our wairtress at breakfast and again at dinner. Thank you Jess.
We meet Gus the 1.2metre iguana - nice to see glad we took a wide berth.
Only disappointment was we were told that there was a glass bottom tour included in our package deal. When we asked we were told that the boat had been damaged in a storm. I think that it would have been nice if we were told on arrival and compensated.
However really enjoyed the stay and would go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The suite was wonderful. We were on the third level great location.

I just came back from Fitzroy Island. What a lovely place to stay. I stayed for 2 nights in a suite. The suite was fully equipped with a kitchen. I wished I could have stayed longer. The boat took 45 minutes from Cairns and once we got there it was simply paradise. The owner Doug Gamble has rebuilt this island from the ground up after taking it over which apparently had been run into the ground. The pool has a swim up pool bar and serves delicious cocktails at reasonable prices. There is a restuarant there but we preferred to eat at foxys bar with live entertainment. Snowy played at lunchtime and after dinner. On the island there is diving trips available and scuba diving. There is a bush walk up to the summit and other tracks as well. If you want to really experience the island and camp out under the stars they have a camp ground in lush surroundings in front of the beach. The cost is $32 a night. The camp site comes with shower. and toilets. Many people I met had actually brought there own boats over and used the amenties that the island had to offer. Considering it is an island thats not far from Cairns the island was not over priced. The island has a cinema and is child friendly. From families to couples the island has something for everyone. The water was crystal clear and you could hire a kyack to cruise around the island.. I will defintely be back. Thankyou Doug and Glenn, the general manager for an amazing stay on your pristine island. Its just paradise. Leanne Mason Top Oz Travel Darwin NT

My husband and I stayed on the island 3-6 March. We had a great unit on the second floor over looking the ocean (as I requested). The unit was very comfy and very clean. The food was good particularly the breakfasts. They served great tasting gluten-free bread.
Basically the staff were friendly, helpful and well informed about what was going on, on the island. Two stood out though for their great service and professionalism, Jay and Wirginia (whos from Polond and her name is spelt with a W).

Room Tip: we had room 217 - 1 bedroomed self contained, excellent view

My Husband and I had three nights at Fitzroy and we had a great time. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Especially the young lady at the shop. The food was really good. We had a resort room which was nice but I don't think it was good value for money, faced the into the mountain and we were on the bottom floor so our view was just a retaining wall.
I would recommend on getting a beach facing room. It would be so much better.
The snorkelling was good especially near the rocks left of the jetty. We saw five turtles which was really amazing and of course all the fish.
Afternoon drinks at foxy's was really nice the music is good and on the weekend there was a guy singing and he was excellent.
There is no room service or spa which didn't really bother us.
We think maybe some of the activities could be free for resort guest.

Room Tip: Choose a room that faces the ocean.

We stayed here for 2 days in the middle of our 3 week tour of Australia to hopefully get a bit of R&R, which we did. The ferry that we were on was absolutely packed, mainly with Chinese tourists over for the new year and it was very difficult to find a seat. We got into our room which only had a view of an embankment. Due to the rain forest aspect it means that the room smelt damp and therefore all our clothes ended up smelling damp which meant once we got to Ayers Rock we had to wash all our clothes. It was the only hotel out of the 7 we stayed at on our holiday that did not have a room safe. You may ask why you would need one on an island but as already mentioned 100's of day trippers flood this island on a daily basis from about 10am every morning and have free run of every area of the island and resort.
Food was very limited, I'm vegetarian and the only thing on the menu, which never changes, was a garden salad. The bread with vegetarian dips included one which was salmon - fish is not vegetarian!! Due to being on an island it's a take it or leave it so it was garden salad for me for two nights. The shop which sold sandwiches, etc was closed on the second day we were there so didn't even have that option for lunch. Asked if the chef could do an omelette or a veg stir fry and was told not if it wasn't on the menu - oh well - not sure how good a chef he was if he couldn't do either one of these.
Pool was nice but wasn't clean with grit (sand) on the bottom & large dead beetles floating on the top - not cleaned in the 3 days we were there.

My sister and I spent 5 days on the island and had a wonderful time. All the staff were friendly and we felt that they went out of their way to make us feel welcome. From Jay in the restaurant, Harry in the shop and the bar, Becca at the pool, Di in the restaurant, the people in the dive shop - all made our stay very special. The food in the restaurant was excellent, Foxy's meal were good too. Our accommodation in the Ocean Suite was superb, views over the ocean and palm trees. We even got to see Gus the monitor lizard who lives on the island.

If you want somewhere to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday living this is the place to go.

The only problem that we had was what appeared to be the noise from the airconditioning/fan from either the room next door or below which did spoil our sleep a little.

Just returned from a weekend at the resort. Value for what you got was off the charts. Place was very nice but what really won me over was the staff. Jay, who appeared to be the manager, went over the top in taking care of not only me but also other guests. I can't say enough as to how if anything were out of place like the wine might have been bad or the steak needed to be cooked a bit more he was on it. Prob the best service I've had in Australia, Period.
Not only will I be back I've raved to colleagues how great this place is. Beach bar with live music, nice dinner spot over looking water, swim up pool bar. It ticks all the boxes. Room was modern and wouldn't change a thing. Couple improvements though. Wifi is a must even if only in the main lobby. Charge to room. For some reason you couldn't start a tab with your room number. It had to be signed each time you ordered a drink /food. Nothing big but hopefully they might work on these two easily fixable items. Thanks to Kate as well!
