After looking at a number of hotels in Townsville to try and find a nice 1 bedroom apartment, we came across the family suite at Chifley and were not disapointed.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the incredibly helpful Morgan. When we got to our room and found the cot wasn't yet there, he was up within 5 minutes to set it up for us.
The room itself was at one end of the 3rd floor and was very clean, modern and comfortable. It had a nice bathroom, separate toilet, bedroom with a double bed, and then main room with a double bed, single bed, chair, tv, desk etc I couldn't have asked for anything more in a room, especially at this price. The only issue I had with it was the noise at night. Its not that there were a lot of people around, but the traffic etc almost sounded amplified by the windows as opposed to muted. We even walked around our room trying to locate an open window as the source of the noise, but this wasnt the case. Aside from that I enjoyed the comfy bed and spacious room.
Throughout our stay Morgan continued to go above and beyond, whether delivering dvd rentals to our room, or showing me to a microwave for my hot pack, or giving directions. He was honestly one of the most friendly and helpful concierges I have had anywhere in the world.
Our booking included a continental breakfast which was also pretty impressive with a decent selection of cereal, toast and spreads, fresh fruit, yoghurt, juices and even lactose free milk was available! We were also informed that for an extra $7 you could any of the hot breakfasts on the menu, some up to the value of $16.
The location of the hotel was really good for us. As we were there over a weekend we were able to utilise free street parking for our whole stay and always managed to find something close by. It was also easy walking distance (even with a pram) to restaurants, Sunday markets, and a Woolworths. Within a short drive was Palmer St, The Strand, restaurants, shopping centres etc
My only other gripe is that it was advertised as having an indoor pool and spa, but when we got there were told that the pool wasn't heated and would probably be filled in soon, and the spa wasnt in operation. This wouldnt have affected my decision to stay, but it would be nice if this was communicated better, as even the in hotel advertisements talked of the pool and spa.
All in all a lovely hotel that I would definitely recommend.
Ask for a room that doesn't front on to Stanley St. Our room on level 3 seemed to be refurbished...
