Townsville does not have many tourist attractions and this is one of them. It serves as a marine hospital, mainly for turtles and you will get to see this side of it in a tour of that facility. The rest of the place houses a walk through aquarium with a large number of reef marine life, a small theatre where staff give "lectures" on various subjects and on the upper level a hands-on area where you can examine things up close and talk with the very friendly staff.
All in all we found it very interesting and spent several hours there, including lunch at the small cafeteria.
