“Location good but needs a refurb”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2007

This HI is very old & was maybe the first ever high rise hotel in Townsville (under a different name I think) & parts of it still show its age. We were in room 609 (no balcony these appear to be only from the 7/8th floor up to the 18th) maybe these higher rooms are better
For:
Great Location to the Cowboys Leagues club even though Flinders Mall is straight outside there are not the shops that there used to be even Woolworths have moved to the next street up from the mall. The only time the mall is alive is Sunday morning when the market is on.
Thick fluffy towels
Large bedroom (we had a queen)
Staff friendly & most helpful
Against::
If you have a car be prepared to pay $$$'s to park in the car park across the road or use the valet service for $12.50aud per day & the better option.
Bathroom very dated & in need of repairs & better lighting
The two seater sofa lounge was terrible if you sat side by side you would both slide to the middle very uncomfortable & very small
The AC had a mind of its own & would not adjust to the temp required I asked at reception if this was one controlled by the hotel but they said no
Old outdated furniture (cane chairs in disrepair)
Very little security
While this HI has a nice lobby & upstairs bar area & restaurant very little appears to have been done to the rooms. Will stay back at the Quest (even though it has been 2yrs since our last stay & may have changed but could not be worse than the HI at least parking was free) or try the Ibis next time

Check reviews of the Holiday Inn (Townsville). Location cannot get anymore central to the city centre. The beach, casino, and nightlife is all within a $5 cab ride or a 15 minute stroll.

Enjoy.

Our family stayed at the Holiday Inn Townsville for 4 nights in December, 2006 while visiting our daughter who was studying at James Cook University for her Junior year abroad from the U.S. We had two rooms, paid $134 (US) per room per night, including all fees, taxes and internet. It was a great location. We walked to Flinders Mall for shopping. We could have walked to The Strand on the ocean, but we chose to drive. We used their valet parking for our rental car, which was quick and convenient. The staff was wonderful. The rooms were a good size, clean, and comfortable. There is a rooftop pool with great views. We had nice views of Castle Hill and downtown Townsville from our room. The Holiday Inn Townsville was a good choice. I recommend The Holiday Inn Townsville for the price, location, and comfort

We stayed 3 nights in this Hotel because of Cyclone Larry and were very please to be stranded in this comfortable, clean and centrally situated Hotel. Excellent service, and very good food served in the restaurant. Another positive point is the reasonable priced broad-band internet connection available in the rooms. Would recommand to anybody travelling the Gold Coast!

I stay in the holiday Inn during my trip to OZ in October. We stay for one night and the hotel was very good.

The hotel is right in the centre of Townville centre and all the major attractions are within 10 minutes walking of the hotel.

If you can get a room high up in the hotel. We were on the 18th floor, with a balcony. The view's were super and you could see for miles.

A top rate hotel at a good price

I stayed here twice in an excellent room and a so-so room (same price). The location in the mall makes it ideal for a range of things. The rooms were clean quiet and comfortable, though the upper floors had balconies. The staff was efficient and very helpful. The price is a good compromise for Townsville and I would stay there again.

I stayed 3 nights here while on business. Arriving at 9.30pm the restaurant very happily still served a two course meal.

The room 10th floor was an adequate hotel room, a little larger than normal. Bathroom looked a little old but was all functional. The views are of town and surrounds are excellent. The location is perfect for business in the city being right on the mall, handy to the Strand and Ferry terminals.

The service in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner was excellent.

Reception was very helpful and efficient and valet parking in Townsville was a treat.

I would recommend this hotel for business or pleasure.
