Hubby and I decided to stay for one night over the Easter holiday weekend as a treat, we booked for Sunday night with breakfast the following morning. We booked a room on the 17th floor overlooking Flinders Street with views to Magnetic Island. Check in was smooth and we were up in our room by just after 2pm which is check in time. The hotel seemed unusually quiet which we thought was strange for a long weekend as we were expecting it to be busy. We were happy with the room, it was very clean and comfortable, we couldn't really fault it. The only thing that I didn't like were the pillows, they were exceptionally long and quite high (even the softer one) and as a result i had a sore neck the following morning, next time i will consider taking my own pillow. We had a nap in the afternoon then went out to eat at a restaurant very close by on Flinders Street. When we returned to the hotel and went up to our room we were surprised at how loud the music was coming from the pub across from us on Sturt Street. We have since discovered that live bands play at the Herbert Hotel on the weekends and will usually play until the 12am mark. Even with the windows shut the music is still quite loud so if that sort of thing bothers you, maybe ask for a room on the other side of the hotel facing south. We also had very noisy guests out on the balcony below us drinking and using very loud foul language. After about 20 minutes i called down to reception to complain and they were apologetic and assured us that the duty manager would go straight up and see what was going on. After a few minutes it became quiet and we did not hear those guests again for the rest of our stay. Of course, whether you pay $100 a night or $1000 a night, you can get loud and noisy guests anywhere. Breakfast the next morning was very pleasant, there was a good selection of food on offer from toast, cereal, eggs, sausages, fresh fruit, pastries, juices, coffee and tea, etc. Staff were very friendly and attentive and we made the most of our morning. I would be happy to return to the Holiday Inn, all in all we enjoyed our stay.
Ask for a room facing south as there may be less noise on the south side of the building. North faci...
