“Unusual building, great views and service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here short notice for a quick weekend break. The hotel is a very unusual building and if you don't like heights I would think twice about the balcony.
We really enjoyed our stay, we had to swap rooms as the balcony door lock was broken but this was no trouble. Our room was really modern and the beds comfortable, the shower was great as were all the room facilities.
We didn't use the pool but it looked nice!!!
Drinks were a bit on the expensive side and brekkie was pretty standard as per all holiday inn's. The lady who checked us in was really friendly and helpful, wish I could remember names to say thanks!!! Overall happy with our stay:-)

Rooms great, function rooms excellent and well catered by staff who went above their job descriptions to make our conference a huge success!
Best motel pillows ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rooms very comfortable and well serviced. Would recommend this hotel and staff and location excellent.

Room Tip: We were on level 7 and the room was excellent, south eastern side will probably give the best view...

To Townsville for a week to visit with family. My husband and I stayed for two nights.
Centrally located in the city. Very short walk across foot bridge to Palmer Street with Restaurants.
Markets on in the City - outside your door on Sunday from 8am.
Coffee shop in foyer of hotel - open early for passing trade.
Cowboys Leagues Club across the road.
Close walk to The Strand where all the action happens on the weekend with many eateries, icecream shops and coffee shops. The Strand looks great after being beautified. Parking a premium along the shore.
In house breakfast included in our deal - usual hot, cold, fruit, pastries, coffee, juice etc. Service pleasant. Shiraz restaurant was not open on Sunday night - not noted to us on check in. We had a voucher to use and planned to do so on Sunday night with 4 other couples - all dispersed to other areas.
Rooms clean and tidy. Good view of area from this hotel known as the sugar shaker. Looks like the old style diner sugar pourer.
Our deal also included valet parking. Parking is at the back of the building and the Valet takes your car - somewhere locally to park - car in front of hotel when required - within 5 minutes.
Investigate deals when booking to include parking, breakfast and meal voucher.
Need A/C - check if it works. Room always seemed hot.

Room Tip: Check when Restaurant open when you check in if planning to eat in house. Building is round so anyw...

Lovely, recently renovated rooms have comfy beds, with a great pillow selection. Nice bath with good shower, plus a refrigerator, kettle, coffee/tea supplies and a safe. The a/c was one of the best we found in Australia. It was very quiet, gentle, effective and didn't blow directly on us. Free WiFi is available near the windows in the lobby. Valet parking only, but we never waited more than 10 min. for our car and the cost was approx. $12. We thought our room was a great value for the price.

Location was great. Easy walk across the bridge to many Palmer Street restaurants, plus a lovely restaurant just behind the hotel on the river. Also, Millie J's cafe next to hotel behind Tourist Info has delightful breakfast choices. If that menu has too much female appeal, there was another cafe across the street from Millie J's filled with men. Also not too far to walk to harbour and museums.

Would have rated this hotel a five, except that we changed rooms after first night because that room had an adjoining door. Our neighbor wasn't loud, but was on the phone until late and then had room service delivered at 5:20 a.m. the next day. We could hear just the normal voice levels through the adjoining door and had a very short night. Lovely Natalie quickly found us another room that morning without an adjoining door and our next two nights were great. Reception staff and valets were all friendly and helpful. Did not try the Holiday restaurant.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms with adjoining door. Also, rooms do vary slightly because building is round. Our secon...

An oldish building but very good rooms. We had 2 adjoining rooms which worked well (3 kids) location ok, this part of Townsville a bit run down. Had a fun day walking around to marina and beach front with playground and eateries. Stayed here cause we had a priority privilege card

Room Tip: Up high to get the views

Desk staff were rude and unhelpful. Had to drag information out of them and yes, got the eye roll. Valet parking was $12 but had to except it may take up to 1 hour to get your car. When I expressed concern Rachel, on the desk, told me it wasn't her fault and the gate was playing up. Didn't bother. Had to find own street park and manage my luggage and my child's on my own from several streets away. Parking outside entrance was full. Had package for breakfast but had to be seated and more waiting. Coffee machine broke down and was fixed after a time, pancake machine broke down and was not fixed. Rest of food was plentiful and tasted good but staff were very abrupt and rude. Left after one night despite having booked for two. Never done that before.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

Stayed here in August for one night for JCU open day. Breakfast was average however 3 course dinner was very good, I believe it was the chef's special and it was at a very decent rate. Stayed on the 11th floor and had to be careful which lift I entered as some didnt go to the 11th floor. Didn't use pool on rooftop but appeared quite small.

Room Tip: Higher floors hear less street noise
