My partner and I visited last night, and had never been before despite having heard lots of wonderful things about Ciabatta. I was skeptical on arrival as it's in a bit of a weird location; in a convenience store complex beside a bottle shop. Despite this, as soon as we entered we were blown away by the exceptional service and lovely, intimate, welcoming atmosphere. From the inside, it was easy to think that we were in a prime restaurant location in the city. Michael and all of the wait staff were absolutely fantastic. And as for the food... we ordered chef 'Damien's Tasting Plate' for entree and everything was just beautiful, every different sample was unique but exquisite in taste. My partner is not a huge foodie, but I definitely am and we were both swept off our feet instantly! I could not fault anything at all; generous portions and perfectly delicate yet complex and warming winter flavours that even my partner, who is normally a very "simple flavours" kind of eater - adored. For mains, I ordered the market fish encrusted with macadamias with butternut pumpkin and pan-fried gnocchi, and he had the duo of beef, which consisted of sirloin and a rustic homemade beef pie. We stole tastes of each others' dishes and I couldn't say which was more delicious; the fish was melting in my mouth with the brilliant textural contrast of the macadamia and pine nuts and the caramel-sweet pumpkin. The sirloin was served with horseradish mash and incredibly flavoursome jus, but I think the highlight was the miniature pie; the beef inside was falling-apart-on-my-fork-tender with a rich burgundy sauce and crisp, perfectly cooked pastry. I cannot commend everyone at Ciabatta enough for the experience we had dining with them; we cannot wait to visit again and bring our friends and family! Next time, we will have to save room to try their desserts!
