“Terrible stay at Hoborn!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2012

Well, to start off the trip we had just driven over 4 hours from Cairns and took an hour driving up and down Flinders street trying to find the place. Had a GPS and the apartments were still not where the mark was! Called the reception to be transferred to an after hours line (it was 4.30pm on a Saturday) and the woman who answered the phone said she wasn't even in Townsville and had 'heard it was hard to find but there wasnt much she could do not being there'!

When we finally found the place, reception was closed and we called the after hours line where we were given our instructions to get our key (one key between the 4 people we booked and paid for). Our room was filthy when we entered. The kitched cupboards were greasy and there was no tea towel. The pots/pans/cutlery/cups were disgusting. Lipstick marks around the rims and sticky left over coffee pooled in the bases of mugs - all in the cupboard though so supposed to be clean! One bin liner for a tiny bin to be used over 3 days.

The location was at least a 20min powerwalk from the middle of town and even further from the lovely cafes etc. located on the otherside of the river. 10min drive to get to them. As there were four of us travelling, myself and partner, as well as his two male friends we had requested one queen and 2 singles. This request was fine on the phone at the time of booking over a month in advance. I called up to complain about the bedding arraingments as we had been given 2 queen sized beds. I told the night reception woman that we had one couple and two singles, and it wasn't really appropriate to share...her response was that were the two single people men or women...I responded men. She commented that 'maybe you should make it like a camping experience, you know, top and tail'. I couldn't believe it! Unfortunately we did not pay $600 a night for a "camping experience".

The carpets were stained, the air-con didn't work properly, the couches were absolutely nothing like they are in the photos. Tiny!! and hard. The walls had black scuff marks all over them and the shower was putrid. Soap scum and mold everywhere. There was a bulb of garlic on the living room floor. I cannot imagine how a cleaner would have missed, not a clove, but a whole bulb of garlic in the middle of the living room floor!

The only good thing about the room was the view - we were on the 8th floor though. Friends of ours stayed on the 2nd floor and had a nice look over nothing more than rubble from a construction site and a carpark.

There were no blankets on the beds, lack of towels, cloths for the kitchen, tea towels etc. I slept with no fan or air con on and was still freezing under the thin white sheet on the bed.

I cannot begin to explain my disappointment with these apartments. If you are looking for a nice place to stay in townsville the go for the OAKS. It is leaps and bounds ahead of Holborn. Staying here completely ruined our holiday.

Once again I had a fantastic stay. The rates are so inexpensive for what Q Holborn offers. The apartment was clean and tidy and the staff were lovely. This is definitely my choice for when I come to Townsville

Well where do I begin. Firstly it took us an hour to find the place. They do not give any instructions of how to get there. The address listed is Flinders Street and looking at the map it is fairly close to the corner of Flinders and Stanley Streets. Let me tell you it is not. It is not even in walking distance to that corner. It is way down Flinders Street and behind a building. When you ring the number your call gets diverted to an afterhours number and the girls who answer the call are down in Sydney or Melbourne and have no idea where to direct you. We purchased a package from Groupon which stated that we got 3 nights accommodation, but had to incorporate a Saturday night. The website also stated that we would get a free bottle of wine. That was not forthcoming. Also promised was a $50 voucher to a local restaurant but they neglected to say that the restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday nights so if you do not use the voucher on Saturday night it was useless. Because we arrived late on the Saturday evening on account of taking an hour to find the place we did not anticipate having to use the voucher on the Saturday. When I complained about the restaurant being closed for 2 out of the 3 nights remembering that you have to have one of the nights stay a Saturday they said that they would look at extending the voucher expiry date. That turned out to be useless too as we were from out of town and would not be returning to Townsville before the end of June. I suggested that they give us a bottle of wine to compensate which they agreed to only to return to our apartment only to find as small bottle of wine that you purchase on planes. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Don't book here. Too far away

Difficult to find due to lack of signage! New, modern, clean. The room was tiny but as I only stayed overnight it was most suitable. The spa is not heated and undercover so a little too cool for me - even in Summer! The location is great. I would stay here again.

the staff here (especially Tammy) were magnificent -professional,friendly and courteous

Room Tip: the hotel rooms were a bit small with no natural light or balcony but the 1 bedroom was more than ad...

I quite enjoyed my stay at Holborn. One thing you do need to understand before staying here is that they are SELF-CONTAINED apartments, not serviced apartments. This means that there is no housekeeping suring your stay, if you run out of things or need towels replaced you have to call reception and they will send housekeeping to you on request.

The apartment was spacious, clean, moderns and easily accessible with allocated parking. We called up and let them know we would be arriving late at night and they arranged to have the key in a safety deposit box waiting for us. Staff were friendly and willing to help out with printing and computer access at reception. Right in the city so a great location.

The pool is not heated and neither is the spa. This isn't really a problem in the pool because the warm Townsville weather keeps the water pleasantly warm, and the infinity-style window will have a great view of the city skyline and surrounding mountains, once the construction site next door is finished. The spa is however under cover so does not get the natural heating so we stayed out of that. Also the ground of the pool is rough, I imagine it is for better grip or style but I scraped my toes on it a few times.

Showers were spacious and the bathrooms were clean and modern. Beds are as comfortable as can be expected for a motel! Air conditioning was in every room and extra blankets in the cupboards, all kitchen appliances and crockery that you could need are available. Great for an extended stay.

I wasn't a fan of the sofa in the living area - fine for laying down length-wise on, not good for sitting on for any extended period. Outdoor setting was a nice touch, but the stormy weather in T'ville meant it wasn't used and get very dirty.

All-in-all, this place was above adequate, and I would stay there again. If you go in expecting a furnished apartment, and not a luxury stay, you will be very happy with what you find.

spent 5 nights there recently for business.

Pros clean, close to city centre, comfortable bed, nice kitchen,

Cons no baggage trolley, living area very uncomfortable ,lounge suite a padded bench,
no plug in bathroom, bedside lamp no bulb.

I spend 150 plus nights away for business every year, if i could be so bold to make suggestion sack you interior decorator, & find another who knows how to make your guests comfortable.
