“Little bit of luxury in Townsville”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

I stayed here for 1 night while on a roadtrip from Brisbane to Cairns. The photos on the hostel's website are very accurate of the opulence of this hostel. The formal dining room and bathrooms are amazing, and I loved the huge deck, perfect to sit out and enjoy the mild Townsville weather. The kitchen was full of modern appliances, and the staff were very helpful. The free first hour of internet was a welcome touch, and the pool was very tempting after a day driving in a hot car. My only criticism were the long term residents were a bit strange and unfriendly. there were some strange characters lurking down the end of the hallway, and I walked into my supposedly female-only dorm to go to sleep, only to find a bloke socialising with one of the girls there. Also the en suite bathroom to the girl's dorm was so completely overflowing with the long term residents' belongings, that I preferred to use one of the bathrooms down the hall. Bit of a shame really, otherwise it would've been one of the nicest backpackers I've ever stayed at.

This accomodation is a beautifully restored house on the outskirts of Townsville-abit of a way out-but on a bus route neverthelss.
All credit to Julian who has restored it in a lovely contemporary fashion- with a gorgeous kitchen.
Unfortunately there were a few teething problems when we stayed-there was no working kettle in the kitchen, the cooker could have been better, we didnt have the fridge in our room which was specified on line and we had to ask for towels.
Also we felt that we should have had a TV and kettle in our room-however it was a lovely room.
The dorm rooms were some of the best weve seen in Australia-some of them even have a bath!
Julian -the owner did sort out the problems straightaway and with free pickups to and from the Airport-I would recommend this accomodation.

An interesting Queensland building with two kitchens, plenty of bathrooms, swimming pool, outdoor seating and upstairs areas have tables and chairs on the verandah. Kitchens are clean and tidy with enough fridge and food storage shelves for guests. Nice to have a "free food" shelf which can be a help when travelling!

Excellent service and free shuttle to the train/airport. Manager Julian very helpful, even printing out bus timetables for us! Public buses nearby take you to uni and City.

Only downside for us was no decent cafes nearby.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are cooler than downstairs

This was a lovely house with a really nice kitchen, TV area and sitting areas. The location wasn't too great as it was quite far out. There were issues such as there being no kettle or lighter for the oven but the owner Julian did sort them out quite quickly - well some straight away, some we had to ask a few times but he did sort it out. He also did shuttles to the station and town if you booked beforehand. I would recommend this place.
