Very glad that the restaurant we were originally supposed to go to was closed on that night. We had one of the best meals in Townsville that I can remember!
We ordered the shrimp wonton ($6.50 for 2 pieces, $12 for 4 pieces) and the sashimi ($12.50) for appetizers - both were excellent. When I initially saw the sashimi, I thought hmm, small serving. But the freshness and quality of the sashimi more than made up for the size.
For the main meal, we ordered the honey pork spare ribs ($27) and the twice cooked crispy skin duck ($36), and the special fried rice ($12). When the food came to our table, we were a little surprised at how big the servings were! The food we ordered could have been shared by 3-4 people (we know now for next time). There were probably 8 pcs of the pork spareribs, and half a duck.
The pork spare ribs was very good - tender, falling off the bone and just really delicious and tasty. And the duck! Very crispy skin, tender and moist flesh, and wonderful flavor. I can't help but compare the duck I had at Sugatrain, which was ridiculously tough and dry.
For dessert (yes, we still managed to have dessert), we had the friend banana rolls with ice cream ($10.50). This was also good, but could have used more ice cream.
Cannot wait to come back to Benny's, and we will definitely try the other food they have on offer!
Tip: If you come in between 6-7pm, they take 15% off your bill. I'm not sure if this is just for weekdays though, or just for Tuesdays.
