Wow, I'm impressed!

Last time I stayed, the management was lousy and ruined the positive aspectss of the hostel, but the new owner and staff make the British Arms one of the best backpacker resorts I've been to. It's just so friendly!

I love the position - beautiful boats everywhere, the beach across the road and there's a new hotel (Aussies say 'pub') right next door that rocks.

Being a diver into most watersports, the backpacker deals on the marina saved me heaps, and I got to swim with live sharks at Seaworld - unreal! I even stood up on a surfboard on my first lesson.

But the best things about the actual hostel would have to be 1. the friendly staff who party hard, keep the place spotlessly clean, drive you to the night clubs and do almost anything to make guests happy.....
2. the new air-conditioned kitchen with lots of appliances and stuff for cooking
3. the free bus and all the other free stuff like fishing rods, bikes (there's an awesome bike track along the beach) and boogie boards.

The worst thing is having to move on. The friendly party atmosphere and all the luxury is hard to leave.

Ok, i am actually here at the British Arms backpackers right now using the internet on my second last day. All my buddies are hung-over so i am bored so i figured i would fill you all in on the place. Firstly, i am 19 and came here looking for a cheap place to stay at so i could enjoy surfers paradise, the beach, the theme parks and to party. This, i got and hence the rating of 4/5. If you are looking for something more than a bed to sleep in and a place to put ur stuff (like something classy), i wouldnt bother coming here.

Pros: - Cheap, cheap, cheap. - Bus to surfers and back is free around 5 times a day. - Bed is comfy enough. - Lockers and a safe provided. - Showers and toilets are clean and nice. - Free movies and tv provided.
- Free sports equipment and ping pong available. - McDonalds, Pub and Restaurants are within 100m. - Nightlife is great if you join in. Club crawls and 70's nights etc are very fun! - Internet available, and if ur sneaky enough u can get it for free :) - Kitchen is clean and has everything basically for free, with fridges (but no freezers) provided.

Cons: - No airconditioning in rooms (but fans provided) - Rooms are small with only 2 bunk beds, a bin, mirror, window and 2 power points.
- TV room isnt airconditioned and can get very hot at times! - Staff are pretty useless and can be a bit rude, but dont step on their toes and they wont step on yours. still, they could try to be helpful seeing as u are paying their wages! - Bottleshop downstairs is a bit pricy! - Not allowed cartons of beer in ur room, but its not so bad cause they would just get hot anyway. - not allowed to put alcohol in the fridges provided! we found the best solution was to put coke in the fridge, and buy bottles of bourbon etc.

Summary: I thought it was good and it suited me. Once you get used to the no cartons in ur room, and get settled in, and stop caring that u stink cause ur sweating in ur room whilst u sleep, its quite a good place. I have gotten to know almost everyone over the past week and it has been a fun time for all. If your looking to enjoy surfers by partying... come here!
