“Needs better staff/didn't charm us.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Before going away on a travel, I always check tripadvisor for recommendations by people and what is good/what is not. Usually when we go down to the Gold Coast we stay at a few places we have previously stayed at and thoroughly enjoyed. This was our first time staying at QT but we have stayed at other Rydges Hotels and eaten at the Bazaar Buffet. However, seeing that the accommodation package included dinner, breakfast and snacks we thought we may as well give it a go.

On arrival, the Hotel is very welcoming with bubbly and happy front concierge staff. Going to the room was a surprise as the bed was so so comfy (must be one of the comfiest we have ever slept on!). The hotel however, does charge for coffee/snacks/mini bar consumption. So if you do need snacks, go out and buy your own if you dont want to rack up some unnecessary charge. The gym and pool are maintained quite well and we didn't have much of a problem using it at all. It was both very clean. There were a few kids in the Spa without parents there which was quite annoying as no staff was even there to monitor them.

We had the buffet dinner, which was very nice and tasty and the staff in the corner we sat at was very attentive. However, this cannot be said for every single meal we had there. Yes the food and drinks we bought at the hotel was great, but the service we received was quite appalling for a supposed "5 star" hotel. We ordered room service at around 10pm one night and we called one hour later as the food had not arrived, and the team member said "it's on its way up". 25 mins later it finally arrived at our door, and by this time we just wanted to sleep, not eat. We got a half hearted "sorry for keeping you waiting". They could have told us when we placed our order how long it would have taken. Not just that, but at the buffet breakfasts on a few occasions we would always be missing spoons and trying to speak to staff was almost impossible as they weren't attentively listening. We always had to walk up to one and request one - again very appalling for a so called "5 star hotel".

In all honesty, yes we scored a great deal but i think i would have preferred to stay at a place where we were not charged for parking there (because most places dont at the gold coast if you are staying over), had better customer service and wasn't so loud, we would have enjoyed this holiday much more. The comfy bed, and great food made up for it though.

Arrived at Gold Coast around about 2PM for Easter break holiday, promptly checked in and bags brought into our room. I found the rooms to be clean and stocked well with amenities and also room service were prompt and the food excellent. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast well stocked and also has plenty of variety. Parking was fairly cheap at eight dollars and the beach is only a short walk away. Would defenitly stay at this hotel next time I am in surfers paradise.

Room Tip: Get a seaview room, fantastic unobstructed view of the beach.

This is the second time we spent at QT and it was absolutely delightful. The staff were as friendly and helpful as ever. The room was clean and adequate. It is perfect for everybody. The Stingray bar was fantastic and Bazaar was amazing! The location is perfect - close to the beach and not too far from Surfers Paradise. Considering the construction work going around GoldCoast for the new train system, this place was relatively unaffected. That is another plus for the location aspect. We are definitely going back again and again!!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the beach are a bit more dearer. If you are not too fussed the mountain facing rooms ar...

I want to be very fair. We heard that the Stingray Bar was good - Tuesday nights. It was outstanding with $3 tacos and great cocktails. Great evening so we went back on a busier Friday night with our friend joining us from Sydney.

Total disaster - it's a wonder the Stingray Bar keeps a licence to serve alcohol. The place just would be just shut down in Sydney, Melbourne, or Auckland - the drunk people, lack of security and total disregard for anything close to Responsible Service of Alcohol was amazing. Our party was totally uncomfortable and following discussions with management all that offered was moving us away from the intoxicated parties. People falling over chairs, sleeping on couches and displaying complete drunken attitude. Our party were all comfortable in nightclub bar environments, but here we experienced total discomfort.

Be very careful - the managements response to completely drunk people is to sit down with them and help them buy another bottle of Champagne. Our only 'take-out' was no wonder the Gold Coast has such a reputation.

Need to improve - major lack of responsible management.

We usually stay at our usual brand of hotel when in the GC but thought we would give this place a go and we have to say, in general very impressed!

Our beautiful Ocean View Suite (2015) was modern, clean, an very chic and themed with the QT 60's inspirations. The Stingray Bar has a fantastic selection of great cocktails and terrific food, definitely a must do while in the GC, it has everything you want and more, very trendy, modern and great service !

Bazzar Market Place is the signature interactive dining experience where chefs work from their stations to prepare fresh dishes, chooses from succulent lamb shanks, brick oven baked pizzas to die for, a massive selection of seafood including scallops, oysters, crabs, prawns, mussels and whole baked fish. In another section you can enjoy a selection of about 10 different salads, there is risottos, Asian fare, Fresh cooked steaks to order, it really is an experience !

The facilities of the hotel are just great, everything you need with an outdoor pool, gym, great gift shop and really close to amenities. The ocean views are spectacular and the building presents very well compared to some of the 80's throwbacks that is the GC. The design and feel of this hotel is just great, the staff look fantastic in their 60's inspired uniforms and very attentive to guests needs ! We had a couple of issues during our stay but the service recovery was excellent, the Management were exceptional and we look forward to returning again, keep up the great work team and thanks for a great stay !

Hip and trendy hotel.. The rooms make you feel somewhat at home.. I liked that everything was for sale not that I'd bug anything.. Went to breakfast at the hotel and it was good but I'm not sure if it was $32 a head good.. The beds were comfy and the shower was good water pressure.. Everyone was friendly and check in and out was simple.. It was a nice two night stay and I might come back.. But id probably try a different location..

A good quality hotel at a reasonable price.Close to the beach. It will be good when the light rail project is finished though. The beach needs more work in order to fix the erosion. The waterways are fantastic and the food is brilliant on the Gold Coast.
