“Weekend Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Having found an amazing deal on wotif we decided to splurge and book the Marriott. Walking into the lobby the kids said is this the right place? haha! It was breathtaking from that moment on. It really sets the mood for the holiday from when you first walk in. And it was all good from there. Our room was spacious and the beds were very comfortable. I particularly like the extras cupboard space for the luggage. Very handy when you have two kids wanting to utilize all the space in the room.
Then of course the kids wanted to go for a swim and WOW the pool was incredible. Tropical Fish in the water who has ever heard of that?! not us! the caves to explore and the waterfalls in the pools were beautiful and the hot spa in amongst it was also a bonus as we could watch the kids from there. I couldn't bring myself to rate it excellent because of one reason, the pool attendant! If I had one thing to be disappointed about was that we all got up early and had breakfast to be able to have a swim in pools before we had to check out. We got down there at about 9.30am and waited until 10am for them to turn on the slide and waterfalls to enjoy our last few hours. We asked the pool lady at the kiosk what time does it start and she replied 10am Well 10am came and went and we had to check out at 11am so we got out of the pool at about 10.40am and still no waterfalls or slide. She could tell we were waiting as we and the kids had asked her 2 times. She was just chatting away in the little kiosk to the other workers. Why did she say 10am when clearly she had no intention of flicking a switch! She wasn't friendly at all. The kids were extremely disappointed to leave like that. As that was the main attraction for them. Also no free wifi.

Dear Danielle,

We are so glad you and your family had such a wonderful time here at the Surfers Paradise Marriott.

Our saltwater lagoon is heated all year round, making the resort a perfect destination in winter especially with the beautiful sunny days we have been enjoying lately.

Marriott Australian also have ‘Teen Concierges’ in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and the Gold Coast so make sure your teens check out www.thiscitymyway.com.au for tips on what to do when they visit these destinations.

We look forward to seeing you again next time you travel to the Gold Coast and thank you for your great review.

What a wonderful stay at the marriott for my birthday. The staff were so kind and helpful and when checking in we were offered sparkling wine and a chocolate. Annie at reception was wonderful, she offered us an upgrade package to include breakfast, parking, internet, wine and unlimited movies. I highly recommend it, great value! When Annie found out it was my birthday she sent up to our room a card with a voucher for two free drinks to have with our dinner at the seafood buffet. The seafood buffet is still amazing, super fresh seafood, attentive staff and decedent dessert. All in all the marriott is still a 5 star hotel with great amenities and well trained staff. I can't wait to go back soon.

Wow, where do I start...

Our hotel room was facing north with a beautiful resort and beach view. The floor was quiet and we enjoyed a peaceful sleep in every morning.

Room service was great. The food was delicious and our order was delivered within 20-30 minutes each time. (which is a great feeling when your hungry!)

The breakfast buffet in Citrique restaurant was amazing!
Friendly staff, beautiful food and reasonably well priced.

But the highlight of our stay was dinner in Benihana restaurant, it was the BEST teppanyaki I have ever had. The food was delicious and our chef Jojean was fantastic! He kept us entertained all night! Our waiter Nobu was also very lovely!

The only disappointing thing about this hotel was the Lobby Lounge Bar. We were not greeted when we came in and had to go to the bar to ask for drinks, our drinks were also empty by the time anyone asked us if we would like another one. No bar snacks were offered? The staff did not seem to care about the service they provided (or didn't provide in my case)

Overall the hotel is beautiful, I will defiantly come back and stay at this hotel next time I'm in Surfers.

Room Tip: Higher floor and facing north. Beautiful beach view and quiet floor.

Dear Megan

What a wonderful review of our resort! It is great to read that you had such an enjoyable stay and loved the experience in Benihana.

We appreciate you sharing your feedback with us, especially in regards to the service that you received in the Lobby Lounge Bar as this is not a normal occurance. We will be sure to review your comments with the team and look forward to welcoming you back to our resort again in the near future.

Having read many glowing reviews and recommendations from friends, my partner and I were looking forward to staying at this hotel. We booked via Wotif a few days prior to our arrival and were delighted to secure a Junior Spa Suite on a higher floor. (Breakfast was not included in our booking which was slightly disappointing.)

We arrived to the hotel by car just after 3pm and the bell boy did not offer to help us with our luggage. Check in was quick and efficient and we were offered a glass of sparkling wine by the receptionist, which was very friendly. A nice touch.

The room was very clean. The king size bed (it was a proper king bed and not a zip) was soft and comfortable with plenty of pillows. The mini bar was stocked with drinks and chocolates which you can enjoy at cost. There are free tea and coffee making facilities in the room and wine and drinking glasses/mugs and a bottle opener. There is a walk in wardrobe with safe and two bath robes but no slippers (which we found odd). The bathroom was spacious and very clean and you can view the lights of Surfers Paradise from the comort of the spa! There were plenty of towels of all
sizes and a hair dryer, make up mirror and complimentary bottle of water. Bath soaps etc were replenished daily. Overall we were happy with our room.

The pool area is the main attraction of this hotel. During our stay we there were many sun chairs available. But I hear this changes during the summer months as more people flock to the pool and it can be harder to find a spot to lounge. Private cabanas can be hired (half day or full day) as well as snorkeling gear. You can order drinks and hot snacks by the poolside bar.. Unfortunately we found the closing time of the poolside bar of 4pm to be too early. The pool is open from 6 am to 10 pm.

Breakfast is taken in Citrique Restaurant and is the typical breakfast expected at a 5 star hotel/resort. We visited from breakfast at 7 am and there were just a handful of other guests eating at that time.. The host offered to seat us at a table by a wall with no view and when I pointed at another table my partner and I could be seated at by the window.. The host said it was a table for four people? I did not like her tone. We did sit at the table for four but she quickly removed the extra cutlery on the table.. That was the last we saw of that host. I can understand if they were very busy at that time.. The place was empty with dozens of tables available! I don't think I was being unreasonable. Overall the breakfast was good and the chef made omelets to order.

Concierge: on one night I went down stairs and found the concierge desk to be empty... The bellboy tried his best to offer some restaurant recommendations.. But we decided to have room service instead.

Room service: I ordered the beef burger for myself and steak for my partner. I requested an off menu coleslaw salad be served with the steak but was disappointed to find a garden salad arrived with the meal instead... The steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the burger was filling yet a bit lacking in flavour. The lady who brought the meal to the room was smiling, friendly and perfect.

Kids: This hotel is great for kids and families. The kids will LOVE the pool and slide.

Special mentions: on the third day of our stay my partner and I we delighted to find a card and cake from Sarah thanking us for staying with them. This was a nice personal touch and one of the only rare moments of warmth we felt from the staff at this hotel.

Overall the hotel has 5 star facilities but some of the staff are lacking in friendliness and do not make the guest feel truly welcome. I understand that we may have caught some staff on a bad day.. But that's no excuse when your working at a 5 star hotel.
I have mixed feelings about the hotel but will give it another chance.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and stay in a Corner Junior Spa Suite on a high floor with views of the pool.

We strive to ensure the complete comfort and satisfaction of all our guests, and pride ourselves of our high standards of service and attention to detail. It seems from your feedback that we have exceeded your expectations however; concierge and restaurant service was not up to your expectations. We share the feedback with the team and the leaders of both the areas where they performed well and where they need more training in and your feedback helps us step up the services further. A wonderful hotel, with amazing staff & facilities. From check-in, complete with a glass of bubbly, to check-out, with the gentleman on reception even remembering to ask my partner how he went in the marathon over the weekend, we couldn't have been happier with our stay. Every staff member we dealt with during our stay is a true credit to the Marriott. Can't wait to go back when it's warmer so we can enjoy the amazing pool too.
