“Actually, a good experience, but ....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

We can't complain about the rooms and general upkeep of Marriott. Love the snorkeling pool, which is e main reason why we chose it. We stayed three nights, the last apart from the other two, and were actually looking forward to coming back. As we checked out from the first two nights stay, we left some food with the concierge who gave us a tag, indicating items in the fridge and freezer. However, when we checked out on the morning of the second stay at 7am, to catch a 9am flight, it was only after we had left that I realized they had returned me only the freezer items! In my haste, I had forgotten too. When I called the hotel, and indicated that a friend will collect for us, the concierge promised to deliver it to my friends staying a 5-min drive away,,but when my friends called, they made them walk over! If that was not bad enough, they told my friends they had thrown away an item as it had expired, even though I am very sure it would not have expired, since I had checked the specific item when I bought it as I had planned to bring it home! And knowing that I am making attempts to retrieve it after speaking directly with them, concierge should NOT have thrown it away. Returning an expired item is as much a responsibility as handing it to me when I checked out, which they neglected to do!
This reminds me of another incident at Marriott KL, where the concierge returned one pack of two packs of food I left in their keeping. Makes me wonder if it is a trend in Marriott hotels that the concierge retains and consumes your items, some quietly, others on pretext they are expired?!?!?!?

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us on Tripadvisor.

We are glad that overall you enjoyed the resort’s facilities, and that you had the opportunity to swim and snorkel with our tropical fish in the saltwater lagoon.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise that on your departure, the belongings that had been stored in the fridge were not given to you to take home with the rest of the items. We have raised this feedback with our Front Office Manager and Concierge Teams so that they can determine where we fell short in this instance and put appropriate procedures in place so that this situation does not occur again.

As advised when we spoke with you over the phone, some of the perishable items were out of date as several weeks had passed since your stay, so they were disposed of.

Again I apologise for the disappointment this has caused to you and we do hope that we will have the opportunity of regaining your faith in Marriott upon your next visit to Australia.

State of origin in Brisbane hotel room goes from $170 a night to $700 a night. So what to do???
Lets go to surfers for the night. 17th Floor good room with lots of storage so if in the mood for a holiday could easily put cloths etc away.
Good tv & channel selection a small balcony but at least you could open the door and go out.
Railway works for new light rail a bother at 7am but this will pass in a month or 2 at a guess.
a bit of a walk to anything that is not in hotel, Taxi took 15 minutes to arrive none standing by waiting.
No concierge only reception who had really no idea of where to eat except in house or room service.

Was there for the British and Irish Lions tour as a supporter, staying for 3 nights although I did not eat in the place for dinner, breakfast was well worth the money. Room was spacious enough, pool was great although didn't use it. The only thing that let the hotel down was on the Saturday night coming back from Brisbane after the game to discover that the bar was shut and there were others who were also not happy. When you go to support your team you wish to discuss points about the game with a beer or two, which we were unable to in the bar but a small group of about ten of us did have a few drinks from "room service" in the lobby which was alright but not just the group's ideal plan. Although unsure of Australian Lisensing laws, as I work in the trade in Scotland, if we have a group up to support their team and wish the bar to stay open slightly later we do try and accommodate their wish whether they ask beforehand or not. Apart from that everything was fine.

The property is beautiful & the huge saltwater pool with tropical fish is the stand out feature for our family. The rooms are a good size, beds comfortable & the bathrooms are large. The views are beautiful from either side of the hotel - ocean & hinterland. The property is located out of the hustle & bustle of Surfers Paradise - it is approximately a 10 minute walk to Cavill Ave & 5 mins walk to the beach. The property is stunning & the restaurants fantastic. We look forward to returning!

We stayed at the Marriott for 8 nights attending a conference for 3 days.

As some reviews say the roadworks at the door are a bit inconvenient and yes we heard them working through the night at times. Not a big issue for us and we didn't have any other delegates complaining about it. Fantastic hotel for a large conference as everything is under the one roof and the hotel can accommodate everyone.

Location is great and the higher up your room is the better the views. We prefer the hinterland because at night the sea views are nothing - just black!

You can park underneath the hotel at no cost and any visitors can also park there.

The rooms are large, great beds and not 2 joined together and the shower is good.

We had no issues with service as some other reviewers did but this is a big hotel so at times like in a busy bar, you may have to wait. The restaurant is good quality and the Japanese restaurant is well worth a visit.

Is not a cheap hotel but if you can afford it, it is in my view good value for money.

The Marriot is stunning from the palatial lobby to the stunning pool and lagoon, the rooms are large and welcoming, with beautiful bathrooms and terrific views from the balconies. It's in a great location with the town and Surfers Paradise Strip 10minutes walk away. The Water Parks and Theme parks are a 15-20minute drive away but a local bus can be taken. I wouldn't personally recommend taxis as the traffic congestion is bad in the early hours of the morning and late afternoon.

Room Tip: In winter the extra cost for a sea view are not worth while. Surfers Paradise is just as beautiful...
