“Stayed for 2 nights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Only stayed for 2 nights, the weather was terrible, windy and rain. So didn't really didn't get to enjoy the pool, Kids did though. Buffet for Breakfast and dinner is up there re cost, but there is plenty of choice and the food was top quality. Enjoyed there Spa with a relaxing massage, top Knotch. Had a few drinks in the Bar once again relaxing. Only problem was the room wasn't that clean on arrival but was fixed pretty quickly after phone call to housekeeping, found the beds uncomfortable, but that might of been just me. Good place for a quick break, would have been better if we could have relaxed in the sun around the pool but the weather conspired against us.

We had booked to stay for 6 nights in an Ocean View room though due to noise on the Wednesday night caused by the roadworks out the front that continued all through the night requested to be moved to a Hinterland Room which was done and made our stay one to be highly recommended.
The Hinterland room on the 25th floor still had ocean views and a beautiful view of the Gold Coast especially at night when the view is spectacular! It also removes your line of vision from the roadworks and the broken tiles from the "incident" that had happened the week before which my twelve year old discovered and pointed out to the rest of us within minutes of entering the first room.
The swimming pool was absolutely beautiful, well maintained and a sanctuary to relax and use the pools, waterfall and outdoor spa's. One spa was located in a rock area and the other overlooking one of the pools.
My boy's absolutely loved the water slide and we took along our own mask and snorkel from home and made the most of snorkeling with the fish and exploring the pool area.
We also used the steam room and the sauna and I had a wonderful massage and facial where the staff were absolutely lovely, Tara in particular.
Room service was reasonably priced and the best room service I have ever had. Fresh, good serving sizes and absolutely delicious.
We had breakfast each morning at Citrique ($65 family package)and one morning when we had to leave early because of a fun run that we were attending the staff arranged breakfast to be delivered to our room.
The buffet breakfast was absolutely lovely with a wonderful selection and caring staff. One morning we were there and an elderly lady started crying and a young blonde staff member consoled her and should be commended on her caring and professional attitude.
My only complaint was the filter coffee that was available was terrible.
We attended Benihana's one night and had the best time. It was my youngest's 8th birthday and the chef's sang him Happy Birthday and he was so happy.
All in all I would recommend this property as the staff were really friendly, pool area not to be missed, rooms comfortable enough and we had a wonderful holiday. Do it!!!!!!

Room Tip: I would reccomend the hinterland view to obscure the view of the roadworks.

Stayed over after ball.

Plenty of under cover car parking.

Foyer: Impressive sweeping staircase and dramatic light fittings. Lots of comfy seating. Friendly professional reception staff, speedy check-in.

View: Over looked beautiful tropically landscaped swimming lagoon with vast ocean view behind the buildings. Hwy out front under construction which detracts from the beauty. Faces east so morning sun shines directly onto bed. Close curtains if not early riser. Hinterland view rooms cheaper, view more interesting & you're not blinded at first light.

Noise level: Absolutely no noise from corridor/adjoining rooms.Sound of waves invasive if you have doors open at night.

Room: Tiny & angular. Pull chair out from desk you can't get passed. Tiled area & partition immediately inside door ate into the limited space. Walk in robe contained chest of drawers and safe. It's usual to have a small table & couple of chairs in a room but there just wasn't space. Big screen TV. Booked for 3 people - only 2 coffee cups & robes. Small balcony, glass front and 2 plastic chairs.

Beds: 2 DOUBLE. Extremely comfy mattresses & pillows. You could lay on the bed nearest the window and touch the glass. Disconcerting when you have to get up in the night or have fear of heights.

Bathroom: Spacious. Separate shower with regular & hand held shower heads. Water pressure average and took while to warm up.

Breakfast: Booked buffet breakfast package a month earlier but not reminded it'd be Mothers' Day. Called a week before to book table only to be told as it was Mothers' Day they weren't taking any more even for hotel guests. Was suggested we "come down & try our luck" or "welcome to wait in the queue". By 8.30 about 100 people lining up. Wouldn't refund difference so reached compromise with receptionist we could eat in poorly lit alcove coffee area of about 6 little tables by the lift. Choice of 6 items on menu - all average. Coffee was nice. Delightful waitress tried to make us comfortable.

On reflection my stay at a 4* Sydney hotel last week was vastly superior. Extremely disappointing.

Room Tip: Hinterland views pretty, interesting and cheaper. Ocean view rooms: keep blinds drawn first thing o...

This hotel is definitely a 5 star, beautiful grand entrance, attentive friendly staff. The pool is what makes this hotel, it is amazing, if you have children they will happily play in the pool and caves and water slide all day long, as well as snorkelling with the fish. Every morning the pool attendant writes a new message in the sand at the edge of the lagoon pool, a nice touch. Meals are good at Citrique, buffet breakfast is pricey at $36 and $39 on weekends, I went to the Sheraton one morning for a buffet and paid $25. Only one niggle, had problems with our airconditiong unit in our oceanfront room for the entire 7 night stay, had to call reception four times about it and it wasn't until our last night that they offered to change our room but it was 11 o'clock at night and it mean't moving a sleeping 7 year old so we just put up with it. Apart from this one thing I would still highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose an ocean front room; it's so lovely waking up each morning and looking out over the balco...

We stayed here for 5 nights and although the hotel looks very grand and big, I really expected more from a 5 star hotel.
I prepaid for the hotel 3 months prior to check in and was charged a $300 bond, which was fine but if you are like me and like to prepay everything then this will catch you off guard as upon booking the hotel there was no mention of this. The second thing that really got up my nose was that the bed linen is only changed every 3 days! Seriously this is a 5 star hotel not a drive in motel! I stayed in a hinterland room and checked in the day that the guy jumped from the 26th floor and I would have thought that the hotel would have done something more to 'distract' its guests from the horror and commotion of a suicide that had just taken place! Furthermore, out beach towels were taken by housekeeping from our room but never replaced!! This was really annoying as we constantly had to call them to request replacement towels. The blind in the room was broken and half hanging as it should have been. It's these little things that let the hotel down and it's these little things that make all the difference between a 4 star hotel and a 5 star hotel. I only ever stay in 5 star hotels because of their highest standards, but although the pool was a great novelty (has cracks throughout it), there are reptiles that freely walk around the pool (not great for kids!!) citrique was ok, the lobby lounge was pretty crap; it has all the ingredients to be a fabulous 5star hotel, but the service and menial things that matter in 5 star hotels were overlooked in a big way - I don't think this lived up to a 5star hotel standard at all. For the money you spend, stay elsewhere and visit this hotel for lunch or dinner before you stay.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent stay at our Resort - we appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention.

It is a standard procedure that many hotels including our property, do ask for a pre authorization amount upon check-in to cover any incidental purchases that are charged back to the room during the stay. This procedure is detailed on our website when making a booking under the section 'rate rules'.

On the day of the incident that occurred at our resort, our Management Team and all associates co-operated fully with the authorities who were carrying out the investigation and did everything possible to look after our guests by offering counseling and other assistance where needed.

We note the items you have raised regarding the towels being replaced as well as the blind in your room and have reviewed these items with our Housekeeping and Engineering Teams.

As part of Marriott's Spirit to Serve the Environment culture, all bed linen for long staying guests is changed every 3 days however guests are more than welcome to request for their bed linen to be changed daily if required, as noted on the linen card which is displayed on the bed side tables in the room.

I am glad you had some time to relax around our pool area and to experience our spectacular saltwater lagoon complete with tropical fish, during your stay. As you have noted in your review, we do also have some friendly lizards that have made our garden area their home which many guests including children love to watch.

Again, we appreciate your feedback and hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to the resort in the future.

Well was one of the best hotels but NOW someone has put water reducers or savers on the showers. You either get cold or hot water and not much pressure. So the nett effect is you either freeze or get scalded you stay longer using more water because you cannot get of the soap and get clean . What a shame to do this to such a great hotel???

Room Tip: Pool side for view

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa.

The resort did install water reducers back in 2006 to comply with the State Government's Water Efficiency Management Plan, however last month we did have a problem with one of our hot water heaters and due to the high occupancy and increase usage, this did result in the hot water temperature falling slightly.

We do apologise for the inconvenience that this caused to you during your stay and hope that you will choose to return again soon.
