We live in Rockhampton, and needed a night away somewhere close to home, so I booked the CBD Apartments as a surprise for my new husband. I was tossing up to between going to an old favourite, or try something new, and boy am I glad we tried something new.
Let's start with booking - I booked last minute through their website. It was so easy and convenient, and we got a fantastic rate on an executive spa room. Didn't take me more than 5 minutes to book.
The location was close to everything... right across the road from the Pilbeam theatre (where Delizie Restaurant is located, where we had booked for dinner), the Rockhampton Art Gallery, near the mall, City Centre Plaza, with river views, close to the highway etc.
When I got there, I was met by Matthew who was behind the counter. He was so friendly and warm, he really set a mood for the whole building. He was fantastic, and he even gave us an upgrade to the penthouse apartment.
When I got up to the room, I was blown away. It was definitely not what I expected for Rockhampton. Everything was so modern and fresh. It had a full kitchen with dishwasher, full fridge, microwave, oven, fully stocked mini bar, even an expresso machine, everything you could possibly need if you were staying for a while. The apartment was HUGE - it spanned from the front to the back of the building, had a balcony at both ends, and even a set of stairs to rooms above so that visitor can have connected rooms.
The apartment was based on open-plan living which included a entrance with seating, a study, dining room, full kitchen with breakfast bar, and living area with super comfy leather sofas and a very large TV with Austar. Wifi is also free, and of very good quality.
There are all sorts of gadgets to help keep you comfortable - all rooms are climate controlled, there are panels to control the lights, and even electric curtains.
The bedroom had a TV, views from the back of the apartment, super comfy king size bed and leads into the bathroom through a walk in robe which had a sensor light. The bathroom was large with both a shower and large spa for two. The only thing I could fault in the entire apartment was the frayed bathmat which I had to laugh at. Everything else appeared new and of extremely good quality.
Parking was also very good - undercover and secure by access with your room card.
Whilst we were located to the highway, and on a busy road, we couldn't hear a thing of the streets below... so it was very peaceful and calm in the rooms and on the front balcony.
If we weren't from Rockhampton, I would think this would be a great place to stay for business and you needed to have a base - everything you could want was in walking distance, and the facilities in the room make it easy to prepare your own meals, or you could eat out at many of the restaurants close by. There is even a cafe down stairs (Cafe Bliss), which is open for breakfast and lunch... I recommend that too - fantastic atmosphere, expansive and delicious menu AND the best fresh Churros in Rockhampton.
We didn't get to see the fitness center, but I saw someone come out and they looked pretty happy.
I loved this place so much, my only regret was that we couldn't have stayed longer, but we will definitely be back.
