4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Booked a two night stay at Oaks Lagoon Hotel First time stopped in the hotel and on arrival Hotel looked nice and clean. We parked car in spaces provided loads to choose from.Went to the reception and the young lady was very helpful as we had arrived a couple hours early and room was ready and we could check in early this young lady had loads of information about eating and walks and also a handy map. we had one bed room lagoon room with spa. Room was clean and very nice Spa on Balcony was nice had a few of those through our stay. A/C made a strange noise and was loud at times . Hotel was very quiet with very few people around. Location was ok but a fair trip out and a good 40 mins walk into port douglas. When we checked in we was told that the Ramada done breakfast and evening meals we did have breakfast there and had done a review on this Shuttle bus service was pricey so one of us did not drink to take car into Port Douglas.Enjoyed our stay and would deffo stop here again if in Port Douglas

I am pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. Having a spa is a fabulous way to relax after a big day in the sun! We do offer lots of complimentary car parking adjacent the rooms. As a result we don’t often see our guests after check-in, so our staff do try and share as much information as possible to help give guests a ‘heads up’ on Port Douglas on arrival. We love to do everything we can to help make our guests stay enjoyable. Thank you for your feedback and staying with us. We hope to see you again soon.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Oaks Lagoon. We have booked the 2 bedroom swim-out apartment each time. The location of the Oaks is fine, it is a little out of town, but there is the shuttle bus that runs from the Ramada next door (although for 4 people return it cost us $38, might get a little pricey if you did it every night!). The Oaks has no restaurant but there is one next door at the Ramada (it was fine, but a little pricey to eat every night!! Better off to cook yourselves or go into town).
We found the property to be nice and quiet, with no trouble from other "permanent residents".
The Oaks Lagoon is starting to get a little tired though. The beds are fine, and the linen OK, but the Air Con in the one bedroom apartment was too noisy to run overnight, however the fan worked just fine. The outside patio leading to the pool was a little grubby, but the apartment itself was fine. The the crockery in the rooms needs updating - it is not matched and a little chipped, also one BBQ didn't work in the BBQ area.
If you can get the apartment at a great rate then you will overlook the small issues, but if I had paid the full rate or close too it, I think I would have been a little disappointed.
Would I stay there again? Yes, if we went as a family, but not if just my husband and I went. I would recommend it to anyone who wanted a self contained apartment with easy access to the pool. Particularly suited to families.

Thank you for staying with us again at the Oaks Lagoons. Seems like there were a couple of maintenance issues during your stay (BBQ parts have been impossible to get over Xmas / New Year) but we are constantly addressing issues as they arise. We do need guests to tell us if any issues arise during their stay so we endeavour to ask guests on check out if anything needs attention in their room. Having our 6 pools is certainly a great facility for families staying with us, but also means there is always a quiet pool or corner for a couple who want to have a quiet paddle on their own. We hope to see you again later in the year.

Thank you for your lovely comment and I am pleased to hear how your enjoyed your holiday with us. The 2 bedroom swimout apartments are great for families and wonderful for the kids to enjoy the pool whilst the parents sit back and relax on the sun-lounges. The apartments have plenty of space for the family to spread out and enjoy the well-earned trip away. Reception staff are more than happy to provide local information about tours, places to see, things to do as well as tips about restaurants and local cafes. We hope to have you stay with us again soon.

I booked a secluded plunge pool room but unfortunately when we arrived the pool was green and all you could hear was a rattling A/C unit from another room. They call it secluded as they can't call it "private" as above our plunge pool room, on the next floor up, the local backpackers, staying permanently, were partying, music blarring and having a BBQ on their deck overlooking us and the "plunge pool court yard" and was in the full, western afternoon sun. Murray the Manager was very good and moved us to a swim out room. The king bed, pillows, air-conditioners were excellent and the room was very quiet, we slept extremely well. The cutlery and crockery is old, unmatched and in need of refreshing. More late age, teenage locals with permanent occupation across from us, choose the pool to our swim out room, to party, drink, play volley ball and splash around in, while we tried to manage some outdoor quiet time, saturating our swim out area. I purchased 4 nights in a one bedroom deluxe through Hightide Holidays for I think about $350 then paid $100 per night for an upgrade to a swim out room totalling $750.00. The full rack room rate on Wotif.com was $144.00 per night for a 1 bedroom swimout during the time we stayed. I got shafted with the room upgrade. We enjoyed the stay, sub-standard to where we would normally stay, my fault for not doing enough research before I booked and too far out of town for our liking, but no problems with the shuttle service from the Romada next door. I don't agree with Oaks Lagoon, but I don't dis-agree with it either, but we enjoyed our Port Douglas experience.

Room Tip: Do your research through Agoda and Trip Advisor.

I am pleased the change in room worked better for you. The Plunge Pool apartments do provide a ‘secluded’ but not private ambience in having your own courtyard and plunge pool, which does make it worthwhile for couples and families wanting a getaway holiday. I have brought the cutlery/crockery concerns to the attentions of our Housekeeping department though with some of the items, continuity of supply has been difficult. Seems the pool chlorinator had failed so I am sorry this had occurred. We do have many rates in the market and some of the companies do have specials from time to time. Researching your options is an important part of planning ones holiday. We also recommend checking out the Oaks Website where generally all of our best deals are promoted. We certainly appreciate your feedback and thank you for staying with us.

Stayed in studio apartment which was compact but generous balcony was a nice bonus. Loved the pools and BBQ area but second BBQ was not working so a queue to use in the evening. Good service, tips from managers on tours, nearby restaurants.

Had car so 4km distance from Port Douglas central was not a problem and OK walk to 'town'.

I am very happy that your stay with us was pleasant. The lagoons pools are a fantastic retreat from the summer sun to relax and cool off. The communal BBQ area is a social area that greats for guests to meet and share their holiday adventures. We have addressed the non-working BBQ by replacing parts that were needed. Reception staff and management enjoy the opportunity to provide local tips for tours and the best places for meals. It is an enjoyable 40-45min walk into the main business district of Port Douglas especially along Four Mile Beach or along the footpath that follows alongside Port Douglas Road. The local shuttle bus is another transport option and runs daily from 7am to 11pm at night for a minimal fee to and from town. We hope to see you at Oaks Lagoons again soon.

I was recommended to stay here for a quiet holiday and was very pleased to get a great deal on an apartment overlooking the pool with kitchen including dishwasher, and large lounge area.
4km outside the city centre, which suited me fine as I could walk the pedestrian footpath direct to town or along the stunning beach and justify the food when I got there!
Reception staff organised all my trips and took care of me when I fell ill.
Pools are small but hardly used and I had a private corner to sunbathe and dip every day.
Great for kids who can swim and the few there were having a great time jumping from their swimout rooms into the pool! Any noise from the open patio or bbq area is shut out with the room doors.
Re: comments about damp smells.. it's the tropics, and opening the doors for half an hour fixed it up!
Great for single travellers, families and more. Good value and a quiet retreat.

Thank you for staying with us at Oaks Lagoons. We appreciate your feedback regarding the accommodation. The apartments have a spacious balcony/patio area that is enjoyable from the ground floor swimout rooms to the upstairs deluxe apartments and spa rooms. The 6 lagoon pools offers a great opportunity for cooling off and sunbathing on the sun-lounges as well as for children to relish the sunny days by playing and swimming. I am very happy that we were able to provide such an enjoyable holiday to Port Douglas and we hope to see you up north again soon!

Would never stay here again, rooms absolutely stunk of mould, our clothes all stink I've had to rewash them all twice since i got home to get the smell out of them!
Floors and showers were filthy, two of the air con's didn't work.
Some of the light's were blown.
There was no toilet paper, washing powder or sponges.
I found other peoples stuff under the beds.
The pool is not good for little kids at all, it's deep and water is hot!
There is no playground or any area for children to play.
So dissapointed, it made my Port Douglas experience a bad one!!!

Mould is an issue in the tropics particularly during the wet season. We do leave ceiling fans on after cleaning a room however once a guest checks into a room, fresh air or the air conditioners generally resolve the issue fairly quickly. Deodorizer is available on request at reception. With air conditioners they do have a fan only option in the settings, so a quick call to reception can resolve this and some of the other problems you experienced. All we ask is an opportunity to fix these things for our guests. If any cleaning is not up to standard, then we will resolve the issue.
