“A lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

We had a weekend at Peppers for my partner's birthday. Our one bedroom apartment was very roomy and comfortable with a great view over the pool. The reception staff were extremely helpful and Anoet, upon hearing that it was my partner's birthday surprised us later that day with a bottle of bubbles to celebrate. She was very thoughtful and deserves a special mention.

We stayed here as a couple in a spa room for 4 nights during October. Couldn't fault the room, at last, one with a fully stocked mini bar and heaps of snacks on offer. Pool was awesome. Yes, a bit noisy at times, but hey, people are on holidays with kids, so will always be some noise just like at the beach. Loved the extended happy hour. Food was great in the restaurant. Only one small issue, we booked a Quicksilver trip to the reef and paid on the spot with our card. But then it was also charged to our room. On checkout we were told it definitely wasn't paid prior, 'or our daily reports wouldn't balance'. On our arrival home we checked our bank and found in deed it had been charged twice. To the credit of the front desk staff, they admitted their error and quickly organised a refund. We bought a couple of blow up floaties to laze around in the pool, asked the concierge if maintenance had an electric pump. Again, to their credit, they took the floaties away, returning 10 minutes later with them blown up for us. We found out later they had actually driven to the servo and got them pumped up for us. Plenty of helpful info from the front desk and concierge about restaurants etc. Great service. We'll be back.

This was our second stay at Peppers Port Douglas and we enjoyed it just as much as last year. We came at a slightly busier time and yes there were a few families around the pool with small children, but that is expected in a resort that caters for this market. Plus the pool area is huge so plenty of sun beds and places to relax away from the noisier beach end and if you wanted real peace and quiet the apartments had a room with lovely day beds where you could lie and relax in air conditioned comfort to read or just chill out.
The main reason we would come back here is the customer service of the staff - always friendly, helpful and polite. We were warmly welcomed on arrival by the concierge and receptionist, always greeted by a friendly smile when we came down to the restaurant for breakfast each day and everyone went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful stay. We will definitely be back again soon!

Room Tip: We preferred the beach side of the resort as it was sunnier

We are currently staying at Peppers in a swim out room and thoroughly enjoying our stay. We would not normally eat where we stay but have had breakfast at the resort twice because of the friendly staff good food and great service. (breakfast is actually cheaper at the resort than some cafes in town.) Really cannot fault this place, only a five minute walk to town where all the restaurants, pubs, shops are located. However, as the previous poster said, their are some very selfish parents who yesterday allowed their toddler to poo in the pool. A staff member had to take his shoes off and wade in with a skimmer and collect the poo. We have kids as well and I am in total bewilderment how anyone could let your kids do this. Wake up to yourselves and take your kids to the toilet or clean up your own mess. You can count your lucky stars that I didn't catch you on the spot. My wife doesn't want to go near the pool for the last 2 days of our holiday. Please Peppers management do not take this as a bad review as it is not Peppers fault that you have the odd feral parents staying at your resort. We will be back next year, but next time if I catch any parent allowing their kids to behave like that again I will make a big scene and embarrass you on the spot. The peppers staff are excellent when this sort off problem occurred as they were on top off the problem straight away. 5 STARS to Peppers resort and their staff. Zero stars to the feral parents.

Room Tip: If you can afford the extra, the swim out pools are well worth it.

Dear excelsiorSydney,

Thank you for taking the time to post on your (recent) current stay. Unfortunately post to not appear for two to three days later and we unable to identify you in our booking system.

Great to hear about that the team have been taking very good care of you throughout out your stay and I will pass on your feedback to the restaurant team.

As you have touched on we have very strict policies for ‘accidents’ in the pool and we encourage our guest to communicate anything like this immediately to one of our team members, so we can jump onto it straight away.

Reading you room tips – We agree that the apartments with the private swim up decks are great, very popular and book out pretty quickly.

excelsiorSydney, that you again for the great feedback regarding the service from our team. If you are still at the resort please come to reception and ask for me.

Remember to contact our onsite reservations directly on your next visit – 07 4087 1000 or via email portdouglas@peppers.com.au so that we can look after you as a return guest.
We look forward to welcoming you back.

Kind regards,

My husband and I love Peppers. This was our fifth annual visit and have been extremely impressed with everything, especially the staff. All so friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and well maintained, stocked with all the usual essentials, including coffee pod machines. The food from the restaurant was also top quality but the menu was maybe a little limited/basic. Would have liked a bit more variety (there were 3 different focaccias as well as a burger, one salad) and sad to see the club sandwich gone. However what we ate was very tasty and well presented. The pool, as we have said before, is unbeatable.

When we first visited here in 2009, we were on our honeymoon and there were more couples and fewer families. It was therefore quieter. Now, 5 years later, there are more families and they are largely fairly inconsiderate with no concept of personal space. This is not a reflection on Peppers - they cannot help the clientele they have stay. One man encouraged his young son to wee in the pool rather than get out and take him to a toilet. He then got out and left the pool about 3 minutes later. Another group of people saw the private swimup decks attached to the lagoon delux rooms were unoccupied and so went and set themselves up on them with their gear, eskies, etc even though they had not paid for that room type. Other families were splashing other pool users, squirting water pistols everywhere, using the f-bomb on their 4 year old children, children soiling their shorts who were old enough to know better. Perhaps we are old-fashioned; perhaps we just have some standards.

Peppers is no longer a place we'd recommend to couples looking for a luxury getaway; it's for families with several kids and more money than class. This is a more expensive resort than many others in town. We have stayed at a few other resorts in town that were considerably cheaper and the people at those resorts were generally much more considerate than here.

It would be ideal if Peppers offered the occasional child-free week, so that people like my husband and I could enjoy all this great resort has to offer without the child chaos.

Verdict: Peppers is hard to beat, providing you can put up with the constant kid noise and cashed up bogans, but if you want something quieter and more relaxing, look elsewhere.

Dear Shannon M,

It is always great to receive feedback from Senior Contributors on Tripadvisor.com, thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

I see from your other reviews in Port Douglas you dine at Zinc – Great restaurant and a great alternative to our restaurant Sublime Bar and Grill.

Thank you for the fantastic feedback regarding our team and the restaurant – I have passed on your feedback to Chef and the team.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve our guest experience – though we encourage guests to notify our staff immediately if they notice something that is not right. We will review our training with our team to ensure that they are constantly on the lookout for the behaviours that you have mentioned in your post.

Shannon M, thank you for your support over the past five years – It would be sad to see you and your husband go elsewhere. Please feel free to contact me directly on 07 4087 1000 or jeremy.nordkamp@peppers.com.au so that I can over stay your stay personally.

We look forward (hopefully) in welcoming you back in the future.

The pool is stunning, staff fantastic, day spa amazing. Couples treatment in day spa was superb, a must do. A very relaxing few days. Noisy children were not too bad, might be otherwise in peak season.

Room Tip: The room with the pool & private deck at your doorstep is the bomb! Otherwise the spa rooms are...

Attractive, well kept facade & gorgeous tropical gardens. Fantastic central location, walk to beach, shops, restaurants, bars & marina. We had a comfortable well appointed Spa room overlooking the pool with lots of storage but he balcony furniture was very tired and the room would benefit from a thorough clean.
All rooms overlook an enormous, attractive beach style pool. The resort is "Family Friendly" creating a very noisy environment with little to no means of escaping the continual noise coming from the pool throughout the day. The resort does not have a common lounge area to relax in but it does have a fabulous Day Spa. Definately not recommended for couples wanting a quiet holiday.
The hotel has one small poolside restaurant & bar with friendly but poor service from blow in staff who lack knowledge. Food menu was very limited & lacked imagination.
Very poor standard of Housekeeping from start to finish. The room was refreshed each day but the did not have a full clean in the week we were there, even after asking on day 6. Floors occasionally swept & surfaces not wiped down at all. Previous guests makeup left on the bathroom mirror & lots of black hair left on bathroom floor & shower. Rubbish bags left on floor & dirty towels left on our bed by housekeeping on several occasions.
A wedding poolside on our first day went for 8 hours making it a very noisy start to our holiday.
Not at all what we expected from a Peppers Resort.

Room Tip: 95% of rooms overlook the huge pool so few rooms would be quite during the day.
