“Pretty Disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

We stayed at Peppers Beach Club for 4 nights of our honeymoon.

Peppers Beach Club is cheap-chic.

"Beautifully appointed accommodation, luxury facilities" - this is misleading and should be removed from the website.

'Luxury' and 'beautiful' doesn't equal plastic toilet seats, veneered chip-wood furniture fitted together with plastic studs or incompletely rendered spa baths with paint on the edges of the spa bath.

The bathroom doors didn't meet to close, creating a V-shape opening and were smothered in black hand prints both inside and out. There was mould in the shower and the sink was coming loose from the vanity and had cracks in it.

The rooms aren't soundproof, so not only could we hear everything happening next door, we could hear guests upstairs and the drunken guests across the complex.

The pool chairs are covered in brown stains, cigarette burns and holes.

Glasses on the tables at the restaurant had chips in them.

Lastly, a child defecated in the pool and on the sand entering the pool and neither their parents or resort staff cleaned it up - it stayed their all day. We spent the last 2 days of our stay using the pools of a nearby 5-star resort.

Room Tip: The food at the restaurant is good. The customer service staff are nice. The beds are comfortable, b...

“Lovely, but not quite 5-star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

We stayed here for our honeymoon and loved it. We stayed in Penthouse 306 (pool view) and Penthouse 302 (road view). Both roooms were lovely for different reasons. The first room for its pool view and the second for its extra space.

The included buffet breakfast was awesome!!

We got our rooms at about 60% off the regular price so for us this resort stay was an absolute bargain.

Our only criticisms were;
- 306 needs to have the dishwasher cleaned. Most people are lazy and filthy when it comes to dishwashers (not scraping dishes properly or removing the filter) so maybe this needs to be added to a checklist for cleaning staff once a month.
- the reception and bookings staff need to training to bring them up to a 5-star standard. We booked through wotif (2 bookings 3hours apart both for 3 days each). It was on the eve of night 3 that I decided to contact reception to see if we would be moved. The woman said yes. I said you do realise we are still here for another 3 days, and she said yes but we're moving you. This piece of information probably would have been best delivered to us by the venue, not us (the guest) having to follow-up on the matter. Worst of all, in the morning, the receptionist told me that I should have booked directly with them to avoid this issue. Besides staff incompetence not being my problem, do these places understand that travellers use sites like wotif to get an understanding of a new area that they know very little about. Further, the manager said their system wasn't able to cross reference. To which I mentioned that we'd actually left detailed comments in our second booking.
- ordered breakfast - don't boil sausages. It tastes disgusting.
- wait staff - lazy. I watched the training leave old settings (which he assumed had not been used) on the table and set around them. Instead of the staff merely checking the names of guests to see if they have the breakfast bar included, the staff should walk guests to a table and remove any unused settings - if this your take on being environmentally friendly.

I'm hoping with the new manager that some of these process issues will be rectified. At the moment, I think this resort is more a four star establishment.

I noticed in other reviews people complaining about kids. We didn't find this to be an issue. I would suggest that people request out-ward faching rooms (i.e. those not facing the pool) if kids having fun is an issue.

Room Tip: Choose an outward facing room

“Great staff, fantastic resort.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

We recently stayed at Peppers Beach Club in a 1 bedroom overlooking the pool - it was brilliant. The Front Desk were warm, inviting and couldn't do enough to help us. The apartment was clean, comfortable and we loved having the BBQ on balcony. The location is fantastic. The only negative would be the internet - it was well and truely overpriced. That aside we had a brilliant getaway and can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Pay extra to guarantee a pool view.

Dear jettnova

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Peppers Beach Club

Our Pool view apartments are a great choice to be able to relax, watch the world go by in the comfort of your own surroundings. Our Balcony BBQ’s are definitely a great touch, with our Chef preparing BBQ packs especially for our guests which have been very popular. We also now offer a candle lit dinner option on your balcony, perhaps something for you next stay.

We understand your grievance with having charges for our internet service, perhaps this is something we can look into to try and offer an alternative. I will be sure to pass on your positive comments to our front office team also.

Thank you again for your review, we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future,

Kind regards

Andrew Berryman

“Perfect!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

We stayed here for a family holiday and had a two bedroom apartment. We loved the apartment, it was a good size with everything we needed. Our room was on the ground floor which meant we had a gate which opened straight onto the pool area. The pool is beautiful. The location of Peppers is perfect, easy access to the beach and main street. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor have easy access to the pool.

Dear Tancred32

Thank you very much for making the time to write a review on Peppers Beach Club, Port Douglas.

I am very happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed Peppers Beach Club and all it has to offer.
Our apartments are very spacious as you refer to and certainly well equipped, for most guests they are a home away from home with a few extra luxuries on hand. Our delux, and lagoon delux rooms on the ground floor are a hugely popular option and so convenient to the poolside, a good decision on your behalf when booking. We are very fortunate with our location being walking distance to everything you may need to enjoy your stay in Port Douglas.
I will also be sure to pass on to our Chef and restaurant team you positive comments on their part.
I hope we can welcome you back in the near future, Thank you again

Kind Regards

“Great family resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

It's all about the pool and the location of this resort...both are second to none.....the pool is amazing.....and nearly all the rooms look out over it...if you can afford the extra for the swim out rooms they are well worth it.....the apartments were lovely and modern.....only a block from the main street so we walked everywhere.....would highly recommend this resort to families...probably not honeymooners though as it's such a popular family resort and lots of kids!!

Room Tip: Swim out rooms well worth the extra !!!

Dear lympant

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review in relation to your recent stay with us at Peppers Beach Club, Port Douglas.
Your views are very much in line with most of our reviews in relation to our fantastic location, being easy walking distance to most requirements within Port Douglas itself.
The swimming pool is amazing, and you are correct that we are very popular with families for this reason. We do cater and go out of our way for couples, honeymooners, and other special occasions who also view our property as an ideal choice. We offer non pool facing units for guests that prefer some extra privacy.

Thank you again, we look forward to hosting you in the future.

Kind Regards
