“Great Value for money!!!! clean, big accomodation.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2007

I have just returned from staying 10 nights at the reef resort. The rooms are very large, they are not ultra modern. But it is clean and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to make you stay enjoyable. The pool is fantastic, very peaceful and relaxing. If you are looking for a resort where people bring you drinks in the pool, this doesnt happen here. The restuarant doesnt have a great deal on the menu and is aimed at tourists. There is a great little Port Douglas Yacht Club where you can eat for $14 a night and get great meals right beside the marina.
The resort has a great lap pool and gym with alot of equipment. The staff are fantastic at the resort. It is a fair distance walk to the beach so if you are looking for beach frontage this isnt for you, but this time of year stick to the pool because of all the marine stingers.
Its a great resort to stay in and experience tropical north Queensland. If you are an average down to earth person give it a go you will not be dissapointed!!!!!

Like others I had already booked and paid on-line then I read the reviews and thought we would chance it anyway. When we got there we were very surprised, we had paid $69 for one bedroom and they had up-graded us to a two bedroom for free. The villas were clean, the kitchen well stocked, no bugs to be seen, everything worked and the beds were comfortable. If I had to find a fault I would say the decor was outdated but I didnt expect the "Ritz" for $69 a night. The pool area was lively, the restaurant was OK, and the staff friendly and helpful. I believe they are renovating the villas at the moment so maybe we were just lucky.

  • Liked — The price and what you got for it.
  • Disliked — Not as close to the beach as I thought.

Stayed the first two weeks of Jan 2007 in a two storey 3 bedroom townhouse in Stage 3 (about 10 years old). All the units are owned by individual investors and managed by Renezvouz and therefore the standard of accommodation across the range of units is likely to vary. My in laws also stayed a week in a single bedroom two level unit and that property was in good to very good condition. Externally the units don't greatly impress but internally our unit was very clean, spacious and well equipped. Air conditioning to each of the upper floor bedrooms is great and necessary, but inexplicably there was no ground floor A/C in the unit. Some silly items such as unreplaced blown bulbs in lights and a cold water tap in the en suite that did not work suggests general maintenance is not zealously attended to.

The complex has three lagoon pools plus a 50m lap pool with an A/C adequately equipped gym adjoining. When booking, particularly the 2 and single bedroom units ask for a location over looking a pool as some units are somewhat of a stroll to the pools. All the 3 bedroom units it would appear are close to the pool, but again some have an outlook directly into the pool area. We have 4 kids and it was great to be next to the pool for general supervision. Some brochures I have seen suggest there is a swim up bar at the main pool but this is not the case. In fact there is no food or drink service offered at the main pool which means you need to take your own supplies. There also is no room service although the restaurant offers a limited take away menu. This further reinforces the need to ask for a unit next to a pool.

The resort commenced as a Radisson, changed to Rydges and more recently became part of Rendezvouz. There is proposed a refurbishment of the complex but it was not apparent that it had commenced during our stay. The original Stage 1 of the the complex has been retained by Rydges and is being fully redeveloped into a more upmarket resort.

The location is good but about 2.5 kilometres from the town centre. The public bus system is efficient and not expensive. Clearly a hire car is needed for general sightseeing. The resort is large and most tour operators use the reception as a pick up, drop off zone.

If self catering the IGA supermarket which the bus goes too has genuine supermarket pricing. Under no circumstances dine in the resort restaurant as it is under stocked, low quality and over priced.

The 'Combined Services Club' or 'Yacht Club' are good value for money options for lunch or dinner whilst Soul & Pepper is great for breakfast. Within 20 minutes walk is 'Beach Shack' which is also a good quality value for money restaurant with an al-a-cart menu or you can simply order from a wide range of pizzas.

In summary Rendezvouz is a good family holiday location if you are looking to self cater all or much of your stay. I believe it represents good value for money given the 3 bedroom unit we had. The reception staff are friendly and eager to assist and open to 11pm every day. If you are seeking a romantic holiday there are better locations and complexes for that ambiance.

We have just returned home from a excellent holiday staying at the Rendezvous Reef Resort - Port Douglas. After reading some of the reviews before leaving we were a little hesitant however apon arrival all our fears where put to rest. The accomondation was plesant, clean and the most important part affordable. This Resort conists of three swimming pools, which also contain caves for the kiddies. You also have access to the Gym, Pitch and Putt and Tennis FREE OF CHARGE. The Resort is about 5 minute drive from Port Douglas CBD (30 minute walk) however there is a local shuttle service which runs about every 15 minutes to take you into town. Overall we found this resort excellent value for money and would gladly reccomend to anyone else who is looking for Quality accomondation in Port Douglas

this was originally known as rydges reef resort, undergoing renovations when visited. Lovely two storey house, well equipped kitchen, clean, a little dated but homely. Pool was on the next complex, unheated in winter. Did not use either as too cold. Tours collect from site and very organised for quicksilver
( a brilliant day out). Supermarket up the road, by car and stores in Port Douglas too if self catering. Very good market Sunday, worth a visit.
Hotel staff friendly, knowledgable. building work did not detract from our stay.

  • Liked — large two storey house, big kitchen area.
  • Disliked — unheated pool as alot are in winter
  • Tips/Secrets — need a car to get around easily, no problems driving in Oz

stayed for a week, looked old, hotel website was different from actual. our room had patchy ceiling, carpet in main bedroom coming up in corner and nails showing, bathroom shower soap holder broke on slightest touch, looked like glued on. tennis court was in poor shape. tv didnt work properly, although you had picture you could see outlines of other channels in picture. dvd player didnt work, tried 3 different ones. the kitchen items were fairly limted, no frying pan, not even a bake try for the oven. room looked and smelt old and out the back of the room had the biggest spider web you could imagine. would not stay again

We arrived on a Friday night after traveling all day from Sydney with an 8 and 4 year old. After checking in we went to our unit and that is when the fun fun started. I expected some bugs while visiting TNQ but I was not expecting the cockroach grave yard in every closet. I was even fortunate to see a few live ones make a break for it when the lights were turned on. The rooms had a musty smell and cob webs were all over the place. We thought this would be a good place to stay since we would have a kitchen and washer/dryer in the unit, we thought wrong. We ended up staying at the Sheraton Mirage and it was worth every penny. Avoid this place at all costs.
