“Port Douglas Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

We stayed for a week at Pink Flamingo. Gigi and Andrea are friendly and helpful. The villa was colourful, well stocked & very comfortable. It was wonderful to wake up every morning to the chirping of birds. Loved the pool - it was perfect to laze around. Would highly recommend Pink Flamingo for a quiet and relaxed holiday.

We recently spent four nights in a private villa (#4) at the Pink Flamingo Resort and would love to have spent longer. The staff have a wonderfully hands-off approach with an honour bar, help-yourself DVD and book library and everything you're likely to need an arms reach away. We never saw anyone else unless we went looking for them and it was a very peaceful, private experience. Plenty of wildlife to be found around the premises including bats, geckos, huntsmen (!!), cane toads and domestic cats to keep you on your toes at night - but nothing made it indoors. :)
The main swimming pool was just beautiful and just perfect for a midnight skinny-dip and a cocktail (apparently...), we spent almost three hours in there on the night we arrived and had it all to ourselves, didn't see anyone else in the pool for the whole stay. LOVED the outdoor bath/shower - there's nothing like a morning/afternoon/evening shower under the sun/stars or a relaxing soak with a book under the palm trees listening to the birds and topping up our tans with a beer - and all a relaxing 15 minute stroll from Macrossan Street or the beach.
We WILL be back. <3

Room Tip: All of the rooms seemed fantastic. But pay the extra few dollars for a private villa with outdoor ba...

The Pink Flamingo is a jem, and exactly what we imagined Queensland should be. We are a gay couple, late thirties, high income, living between ny and London, used to high quality. We took a larger suite in the Pink Flamingo. The room was lovely, fabulously decorated, great for privacy and comfort. We had our own outdoor large private bathtub, a patio for massage, a functional kitchen. Gigi was incredibly helpful. We arrived unprepared, having booked nothing the week of Christmas Day. Within an hour of arriving we were booked into fabulous tours, had arranged for a massage, etc. The pool is lovely, the garden relaxing, the atmosphere just perfect. There is a nice place next door for a lovely breakfast. Close to the beach and to town, and the shuttle bus runs frequently.

For calibration, when we first arrived in Port Douglas, we had booked ourselves in a different hotel, the Mirage, supposedly a five star luxury Starwood resort. It turned out to be everything we didn't want. Luxury was not featured. Noisy kids, large families, grubby decor, low grade food - a disaster. We decided to trust lonely planet and looked up Pink Flamingo, which came to the rescue. For an urban couple looking for privacy, luxurious but unpretentious and tasteful accommodation, great atmosphere in port douglas look no further. Great great great value for money.

Room Tip: Larger rooms are great and really good value for money. I was prepared to spend much more but did no...

This was my second stay at Pink Flamingo (I stayed for a week - last time was in 2006 for 10 days) and I was delighted that nothing much had changed. The large pool is set among beautiful tropical gardens, perfect for reading and relaxation and most of the time I had the entire pool complex (open 24/7) to myself. I hate steel and granite benchtop style and Pink Flamingo is the exact opposite of this. Warm pinks and oranges, heaps of cushions on the cosy bed, comfortable hammocks, pretty mosaics and sculptures, cool fountains, tropical flowers, lush gardens, peaceful setting and incredible beauty. My assistant is a artist and I took heaps of photos of the gardens for him to use in his paintings - that's how amazing the gardens are - I think they've even won an award for them. There's a great outdoor bar where you can sip cocktails under the stars and fire up the barbie. There's also a private outdoor bath in each villa big enough to fit four people with complementary mosquito coils, candles, incense and BYO bubble bath. I stayed in Port Douglas to get some R & R and enjoyed self catering in the amply equipped kitchen with full sized fridge, freezer and cooker. Beer and wine are available to purchase or you can bring in your own. I liked the mature management of the resort - no petty rules and regulations or political correctness, but helpful staff and a sensitivity to the environment. I chose the option of having my room serviced just once during my stay which entitled me to a lower per night rate. This increased the feeling of privacy and being left alone to enjoy the resort. There is a shuttle bus into town just a short walk from the entrance. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a villa at the end of the path (there are four of these) for even more privacy.

This is the type of place that you don't want to review because you don't want others to take the rooms! My husband and I stayed for 3 nights over Christmas and couldn't have asked for a better spot. We felt like we were staying in our own private rainforest retreat. Rooms were secluded and quiet and quite large. They were bright and colorful without being tacky or over the top. The birds sing throughout the day. We loved the private courtyard where we would enjoy breakfast. We also cooked on the poolside BBQ and had a candlelit dinner one night. I loved the outdoor shower here, too. Lots of great little touches. It's not on the beach and is a short drive to town center, but that didn't matter to us. We appreciated that it was an adults only place so no kids screaming in the pool constantly. Only downside: wifi was only available near reception and was spotty. (So much for those Sykpe calls to wish family back home a Merry Christmas...)

I had a great time at a 3 night stay at the Pink Flamingo in November 2012. Very clean and well kept, quiet, and private. Expertly run business and eco-friendly. Gigi provided prompt, helpful and accurate honest email information and assistance. It was super!!
