“Nice boutique base for Port Douglas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

Having had a bit of a horror encounter with some Huntsmen spiders at our hotel up in Daintree, we decamped rapidly to Port Douglas and found this place (spider free thank God!). I really liked it (though it was quite pricey) - halfway between the beach and the marina, with the main shopping street a short walk away. A bit strange that they shut reception at 6pm, but that was our only niggle. We didn't have time to try the pool as we were too busy snorkelling on the Barrier Reef, but it looked like a lovely spot to relax from what I saw. The room was excellent - good kitchen, big telly, clean and spacious with sunbeds on our little terrace. And we got a free bottle of champagne - it turned out it was a mistake but they let us keep it - nice touch!

“Noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights back in May. Upon arriving the staff where more than helpful and the setting was really beautiful. It is a great spot very handy to everything.
Our room had a common door with the appartment next door, unfortuanately we were able to hear every noise from them, it sounded like they were in our room.
There are lovely timber louvers instead of glass windows which look beauiful but are really not practical, as you hear every noise from the street, so maybe ask for a room at the back not on the street.

“Beautiful, Relaxing & Convienent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

2013 will be our 4th stay at HibiscusGardens Resort. The management & staff are very friendly, accommodation clean, airy & comfortable. We have stayed in March, April & May and did not even need the airconditioning, it was so beautiful to have fresh air and listen to the rain falling on the trees. We both just loved the variety of exotic fruits etc at breakfast. The endulgence package was well worth it, just loved the spa treatments so much so had another before we finish our week. The proximity to Macrossan Street is a real bonus and even in the rain it is just a very short trip up the street to excellent restaurants. There are not a lot of street lights but we always take a torch so when it was a little dull with the rain it was very easy to get around at night. One has to keep in mind that the majority of staff in the Port are backpackers but that is what gives the place a unique charm to contact so many young internationals who are there to experience our country and far north queensland. We just love staying a Hibiscus and can recommend it from our experiences.

Room Tip: Ask where your room will be located the higher the better but remember there are stairs to most room...

“Excellent location and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

My boyfriend and I recently visited the Hibiscus Gardens resort after purchasing the Cudo deal and we had an amazing time. We were put into a studio apartment, which I was worried would be too small but was perfect for the two of us. The main bonus was that our balcony didn't go out onto the main landing, like the 1 or 2 bedroom apartments, so we had total privacy.

Our balcony didn't have any special view, but it was up high and there were lots of high lush plants outside that blocked everything and gave it a rainforest feel. The breakfast each morning is simple, we wouldn't have paid the $18 for it but it was included in the deal so it was good.

The room was clean and had everything we needed - microwave, bar fridge, plates, etc, but we ate out at the local restaurants 90% of the time.

Definitely the best feature of this hotel is the location. It is literally 200m away from the beach, 200m away from the main street and restaurants, and 200m away from the marina (where all the snorkelling tours leave from, so no need to book bus transfers). Based on the reviews I read before I left the manager can be quite disagreeable - we didn't have much interaction with him but from what we found he was fine, we mainly saw a young girl on reception (I think her name is Jodie) and she was very nice and helpful.

Overall, the location is extremely central, the hotel rooms and grounds are clean and well maintained (especially the lush rainforest feel they have created) and all the staff seemed lovely and helpful. Would definitely recommend to a friend!

“An excellent place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

Just back from a 5 night stay in Hibiscus Gardens and we are very happy with nearly all aspects of our stay. The service was excellent contrary to a few reviews on this site. The manager even carried our suitcase up to our room on the top floor despite having one arm in a sling. The location is fantastic - less than a five minute walk from the centre of town. The rooms are clean although had a slightly damp smell but that is only a minor complaint. The small pool is excellent to relax in and the breakfast by the main pool was very good - I would get to breakfast early as it can get busy towards to end. We would definitely stay in Hibiscus again and recommend to others.

Room Tip: I would choose a room that overlooks the small swimming pool - this was a perfect place to relax thr...
