“Well presented and close to Main Street and Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2008

Central Plaza is situated less than 10 minutes walk from the main Macrossan Street shops and only a 5 minute walk to the beach.

To get to the beach there is a Tennis court only 2 minutes from the Central Plaza.

There are 3 block of apartments, 2 of which have nice views overlooking the pool and BBQ area. We stayed in the third block away from the pool and preferred this as it was away from the action.

Rooms are of a good quality and hosts Ian and Fiona are friendly and responsive to requests. Kitchen facilities are above average, but lack a decent cooktop if you are planning to cook in but decent enough for pasta. There is no oven, just a convection microwave, but I doubt you will be doing much baking in the tropical weather.

The BBQ next to the pool is excellent with decent utensils and a great way to meet other travellers. When we were there they put in two new outdoor settings next to the pool.

Austar PayTV is included, but if you are hoping for the occasional internet access, this is charged.

There are lots of things to see and do in and around Port Douglas. Personally, I would recommend you have a car for 3-4 days towards the end of your holiday to do your sight seeing including driving back to Cairns for the airport leg. Avis is located in Port Douglas as well as Budget.

There is a Coles Supermarket in the main drag (Macrossan) and we stocked up for the week on the first day when we had the car for days 1-2. Food is expensive in Port Douglas and the quality of the food eating out in my opinion is only average. Many of the places have backpackers working and the consistency varies a lot. Keep your expectations not too high and you should be ok.

There are tropical fruits around, but not a lot in Port Douglas it self. Best place to buy was on the Sunday market near the waterfront.

Choice of Seafood wasn't that great either considering where we but there are two Seafood shops at the back of Coles Supermarket. I found the one next to the Avis Rental much better in terms of range of fresh produce. The prawns are probably the best produce you can buy in Port Douglas - fresh, sweet and cooked daily.

By far the best part of Port Douglas is the warm tropical waters and the soft rolling surf - great for young kids - without worrying about being dumped or getting caught in rips like the Gold Coast and the range of things nearby - Cape Tribulation, Kuranda.

Jungle Surfing in Cape Tribulation is fun and a day out on the Reef is worth the effort. If you have been to the reefs in Asia, the Great Barrier Reef is not as colorful but impressive just the same. We selected Wavelength who specialise in snorkelling sites.

  • Liked — Value for money for the location and easy access to things. Quiet area away from main drag.
  • Disliked — Kitchen facilities and cooktop could be better but adequate.

We stayed here for 6 days in the middle of May, 2 adults and 1 child. We arrived about 10pm on a friday night and were slightly nervous as we knew there would be no one to greet us! our fears were unfounded, on arrival at reception, there was an envelope with a map (not really needed) and our key. once into our apartment, there was a handy home delivery leaflet with numbers for local takeaway places. We opted for takeaway pizza but it was overpriced and not very nice. if you can, take a walk into the town, its only about 8-10mins walk away. find the bar called Rattle and Hum - amazing food at very reasonable prices.

the apartment itself was great, very big, clean, lots of towels and close to the pool area.

we had no complaints about this resort and would recommend it to anyone staying in Port douglas. the price was cheap and we booked through the hotel itself.

Just back from a week in Port Douglas and stayed in the Central Plaza for the duration.

Our apartment catered for 2 adults and 2 children.

The apartments were really spacious with a spa bath ensuite to one bedroom and separate shower/toilet facilities for the other bedroom.

TV in the double bedroom meant the children could watch their programme while the adults could watch Wimbledon on the larger one in the lounge.

Bedrooms/lounge/dining areas had very efficient (and quiet) airconditioning units, as well as large ceiling fans

2 large eating areas, one inside and one on the balcony overlooking the pool.

The washing machine/tumble drier were really useful as we used the pool or beach at least twice each day.

Pool is huge with plenty of room for kids/balls/noodles/daft adults etc. Also a nice touch is the enclosed area for toddlers.

Plenty of covered car parking available and walk to beach no more than 5 minutes. Shops/ restaurants/marina were no more than 10 minutes walk.

Reception staff very friendly and helpful and we will definately stay here again when we next visit PD.

Stayed last year - couldn't wait to return. New owners have improved complex. Large apartments with all facilities needed for self catering. Very quiet with large swimming pool. Asked to be placed in same unit as last year overlooking pool and request granted.
Good location 10minute walk to bars and restaurants on Macrossan street. 5minute walk to 4mile beach - best beach for walking along. 10minute walk to Marina. Very laid back ideal atmosphere for relaxation at end of a very busy holiday round Australia. Port Douglas is the place you don't want to leave. Can recommend the Court House for the best steaks ever.

Fantastic place to stay. Lovely apartments with a beautiful pool and convenient location to 4-Mile Beach and Downtown. Fiona, the manager, could not have been more helpful. If you are a slow walker, especially on a hot day, the walk into town takes a good 15 minutes. Tip: Buy some shrimp kebabs at the local supermarket and cook them on the barbie. Sit on your porch with a good bottle of Aussie wine and enjoy the ambiance.

We arrive in late feb 2008 for 5 night s at Central Plaza Resort.
It was the best hotel i have ever stayed at, the service by Fiona was amazing! The Resort was fantastic for my partner and I and Fiona help us so much with all our tours etc. the resort was very quiet and had well sized pool. The room was very well sized for us, it was very clean and modern. There IS a very well maintain bbq area for us to use! It was very close to the Marina and also to the Main st of Port Douglas, only about a 10 min slow walk!!
If i ever went back to Port Douglas I would defently go back the Central Plaza.

We stayed at Central plaza for 7 nights for christmas 2007 and it was wonderful. The minute we got there we new we made a good decision. The building had a funny colour to it , it would be nice if it was painted white it would make it look more modern. But the rooms are so spacious and clean was vey pleased with that, the beds just a liitle hard as in matress only complain but they probably were new. The POOL was the best my kids loved swimming in that huge pool very good size. The sevice was fantasic Eeaun and Fiona helped us with everything good owners. The location is 2 streets aawy from macrossan main street and 1 street away from beach, but you wouldn't use the beach as it is stinger season and the pool is better oh they also have a huge spa near the pool just fanatsic. Also dont miss out on the sunday market as the coconuts are fantastic there they cut them up fresh. And dont eat at michelangelos pasta as we were not welcomed there, cause there were too many of us, my children were not welcome there as there were no seats for them as she said" no room for five go somewhere else, so then we went to this other place were they spray you with water while you eat fantastic service very recommended and very nice food good price. If you want to stay somewhere and not pay too much and have a clean and nice place and great pool close to macrossan street stay at CENTRAL PLAZA good value and especially great for family's. We had a wonderful time . Thankyou centarl plaza for the great holiday.
