Owner description: Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access.

“Our favourite winter getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

We love Port Douglas. Where we live the Winter is pretty cold & we like the warmth for a few weeks. Funny thing is the residents of PD think it's too cold to swim - 26 degrees!!! Anyway Port Douglas is relaxing, lots of lovely restaurants, a great 4 mile beach and there are lots of tours etc. to do if you get sick of lying around reading, eating & drinking! Cheers

“Idyllic Port Douglas”

Great place. Small and intimate. Temperature 26 degrees in July - just right. Excellent place to access all the attractions around the area.

“Trinitysportsfishing at Port Douglas”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

Pt.D. is a great place you will not be disappointed. We have been going there continually over 15 years. The biggest disappointment this year was going on a fishing trip with Trinitysportsfishing in the estuary, The brochure is misleading. We were not allowed to keep the catch although the brochure says it would encourage catch and release it did not say the catch could not be kept. It was expensive. Told if we wanted to eat fish it would be best to go to the local Inlet Restaurant. Total disappointment and a total waste of money. On boarding no life saving devices were shown or demonstrated. Do your homework when choosing your tours/trips.

“tidy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

The thing that impressed me most about Port Douglas and the surrounding areas was how beautifully manicured it was. It appeared that gardens, edges, grass areas in general were kept in an incredibly well maintained state by both owners and local council. It gives the impression of being in 'Stetford' but with a friendly population. It really was impressive. The Centre of Port Douglas is a one street place filled with tour, clothing and souvenir outlets. All places of interest are in easy walking distance. The walk along 4mile beach us a popular way to pass the day. The Marina is 10 min walk from the Centre of town and is a pleasant environment to have a drink or a meal and watch the world go by. I arrived from a very cold Sydney to a lively warm Port Douglas where a dip in the sea put cold Sydney on another planet. I used a shuttle bus from Cairns airport to my hotel for a fee of $36 each way. Its a beautiful drive, very similar to one in the South of France.
