Owner description: Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access.

“Beautiful beach resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Someone recommended I head for Port Douglas instead of staying in Cairns, and I can honestly say it didn't disappoint! Lovely little town with a beautiful beach. Although I was there in the school holidays, at no time was the beach too crowded - even in the lifeguard patrolled area.
Great place to base yourself for snorkelling, diving, Cape Tribulation and other trips.
Would love to come back!!!!

“Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Port Douglas is a lovely little village in tropical north queensland.

I wouldnt recommend for a solo traveller as there doesnt seem to be much going on and ill be happy when my boyfriend arrives tomorrow.

However the location is lovely, lots of things to see and do, excellent restaurants and tours. Also there is a coles which is great to uy things if you arent wanting to eat out all the time.

Its a lovely relaxed upmarket feel, similar to Avalon and Palm Beach on the Northern Beaches in Sydney.

Definitely recommend a trip up into the daintree (stay at silky oaks if you can squeeze it into your budget)

I recommend QT to stay in Port if you're young/ish and like a funky friendly lush vibe.

“Port Douglas Yacht Club - ahoy me hearties”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

great way to spend a lazy wednesday afternoon. the yacht club is just down from the marina. put your name on the list to sail for free on a local's yacht out the heads and back. relax on the deck sipping something cold while watching another superb sunset. back on dry land, enjoy a beer/cocktail and fresh-cooked bistro meal. just remember two rules for boat crew: 1. don't fall off 2. try and keep the spray off the skipper!

“Great Australian holiday trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

I'm writing this review as im here in port Douglas, relaxing indoors while it's raining. We just caught the start of the rainy season, when it rains it's beautiful, not cold, not hot, just perfect.
This is the trip to relax, a gateway to see the daintree rainforests and waterfalls, a trip to see parts of the great barrier reef and the array of seafood restaurants are just amazing here. There are beautiful walks like the historical walks to the lookout around the marina area, macrossan street shops, and the beautiful walk all the way the four mile beach, the sand and waves are great here in far north qld. And if you choose your holiday well, the trip can be very affordable.
