Great location and the couple that own the place were very helpful with tours etc. it's nothing out of this world but it has everything you need and all clean. Pool area was lovely and private parking. Walking distance to marina, shops and beach. Definitely recommend

It's quite basic but clean, reasonably spacious and just a short walk to the marina and the main street. There were no bathroom supplies like shampoo or shower gel so you'll have to bring your own. WiFi is supplied by a 3rd party, not the accommodation and is chargeable. There is a small room safe but you need a key from reception, which only operates on daytime business hours.

On arrival David talked us through lots of tour options and booked a couple for us, although like some of the other reviews have mentioned, his attitude on a couple of occasions wasn't very pleasant when faced with minor questions he didn't want to deal with.

Other notes
The restaurants all closed their kitchens quite early during our stay, before 9:00, so make sure you're in before 8:00. One night we were too late and it seemed like only a kebab shop was still serving at 9:00!

What you see is what you get with the Port Douglas Retreat. The rooms are simple, but really meet all your basic needs; with a kitchenette (including two hotplates, microwave and fridge) and a reasonable sized bathroom; plus a king sized bed. You also get a small balcony with table and chairs, which are good for breakfast etc. The gardens have a tropical ambience, with a good size shaded pool and BBQ area. The BBQ area is well set up with covered tables, two separate BBQs and a fridge. Plus they supply the cooking oils, foil and tools etc, very handy indeed.
The managers are very nice and will book any tours you may like to go on. There are no shortage of tours to the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest and up to Cook Town. Best bet is to go online beforehand and see what is available and read a few reviews through Trip Advisor.

The resort is very handy to all the shops, bars, restaurants and to the Marina where all the tours out to the Reef leave from. The Marina also has a selection of restaurants and shops to choose from. There is no definitely no shortage of choices when it comes to dining, in fact you could easily dine somewhere different every day, even is you stayed for a fortnight.

Every Sunday the Port Douglas Markets are held, opposite the Court House Hotel, in a lovely park on the water. If you can, get there early, as they soon get very crowded and they are definitely worth the visit, you may even run into a celebrity. As we did with Manu from 'My Kitchen Rules'.

To sum up, Port Douglas Retreat is a good place to stay with friendly managers, nice pool and BBQ area; and close to everything you could want. As for how long to stay, we stayed for four nights which was just about perfect, if you want to take in a few trips but also have time to relax.

Room Tip: We stayed in a tree view room, which is away from the pool. These rooms are quieter and do not get...

The best thing about this vacation rental is it's location. A short walk brings you to the beach, Marina or Macrossan Street. If you stay here there really is no need for a car, unless you want to explore some of the outlying area. The grounds and pool are really pretty, and the rooms are basic, but give you everything you need. We spent 8 great nights here, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The price is great also! The owner/operators are very helpful and responsive.

My wife and I recently stayed at the apartment complex for 10 days. A great location, close to everything including the beach, shops, marina etc. The unit was fairly small by Port Douglas standards, but was more than adequate and excellent value for money. The kitchenette is fairly limited, but ok for preparing occasional meals and the BBQ area by the pool was perfect. The second floor apartment (not recommended for those who don't like stairs) overlooking the pool had great views with only drawback being the air-conditioner, which was very noisy. All in all a good complex for those wanting a relatively in expensive holiday. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: The middle apartments upstairs facing west overlooking the pool are probably the best located.

Here for 26 nights and not a bad word to say about the place.
Excellent room with a wonderful kitchenette - two ring electric cooker; fridge; microwave; two saucepans; one fryingpan. Loads of utensils; crockery.
Super bed.

Ceiling fan and AC although it was not needed, weather was not too hot.

PD itself was a treat for holiday makers with loads of cafes and resturants; a Coles supermarket. Lots of travel shops.

Have to agree with the other three recent reviews.
