“Fantastic Apartments and great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

We are a family of 6 and recently stayed in a 3 bedroom penthouse apartment for 7 nights. The Mandalay is in a great location and a short walk to the beach and the many restaurants and shops. The interior of the our apartment was very spacious and well equipped with everything that makes a stay very comfortable, and having the third bathroom was a bonus with our teenagers. The pool was fantastic and was great for younger children also as there were shallow areas. The tennis court is set around a beautiful garden and you almost feel like you are walking in a rainforest as the gardens are so beautiful. The front staff are fantastic and booked several day tours for us during our stay, nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would absolutely stay here again.

We were staying in Port Douglas for four nights on our way home from holidaying with family, mainly as a base for sightseeing but also relaxation. These apartments are very well appointed with comfortable living and sleeping accommodation, and good quality air conditioning and fans which were absolutely essential in the tropical climate. There were two balconies, although we didn't use them much because of the humidity levels. The apartments are only a fairly short walk from the main street's shopping and dining facilities, as well as having two pools for relaxation and sunbathing. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and we would have been happy to stay for longer.

Room Tip: Would suggest first floor or above as privacy would be limited if staying on ground floor

3 girlies (read middle aged) on a trip round Oz, not back packing!. The 2 bed appartment had verything we needed and more. It was great to get the laundry done in your own place. There was loads of space and the ktichen was like home from home so much so we stayed in all 3 nights to enjoy our home cooked food rather than being forced tp eat out. Perfect.

3 girlies (read middled aged) on a jaunt round Oz and this place suited all our needs. We stayed in a 2 bed and it was really spacious and so well equipped. It was great to get the laundry done in your own place.
Fully recommended for short or long stays.

We stayed in a three bedroom apartment facing the beach. You cannot see the beach from the apartments but the morning sun is nice. The apartment had everything one could want for a holiday. Two bedrooms with king beds and one with twin beds. There is a large bathroom off the main bedroom and another bathroom for the other two bedrooms at the other end of the apartment. In between there is a large open living area including the well equipped kitchen, a dining area and the lounge area. We had two large balconies; one off the living area which had a outdoors dining setting and another off the main bedroom.

The furnishings are all good quality and comfortable. We had a full set of kitchen appliances, cooking and eating utensils. There was a dishwasher but we didn't use that. Our only complaint was that the all the markings had been rubbed off the oven controls and so using the oven was very hit and miss.

The other odd thing was the thermostat to control the central air conditioning was not located in any of the main rooms but in the utility room and even there it was not easy to find. It wasn't any great problem but just a very odd design.

The complex has free parking which is good because the main shops are about 15 -20 minutes away by foot which is a bit far for carrying groceries so a car is handy. There are two swimming pools. One is tiny and really a plunge pool. The main pool is about 20 m long but only about 2 m wide so there's not much room when more than a few people want to swim at the same time.
We didn't use the tennis court which looked to be in very good condition.

All in all this is a very good choice for an apartment stay in Port Douglas provided you don't mind the small pool.

We recently got married in Port Douglas and organised a number of apartments for guests. Everyone who stayed there commented on how lovely the accommodation was. The location is central and convenient for both the main street and beach. The apartments are the most spacious we have seen for this kind of complex and tastefully furnished. The communal facilities are well maintained including BBQ areas, pool and tennis courts. The only minor gripe is the lack of shade in the pool area. Recommended highly!

We stayed in a 3 bedroom beachfront. It was on the first floor, and had a huge balcony and so much space! There were 4 adults and 2 children staying and we had plenty of space to roam around and for all our 'stuff'!
The rooms were so well equipped with crockery/cutlery/cooking utensils. We loved the dishwasher, washing machine and dryer as we stayed for 10 nights so did a bit of washing! The day bed on the balcony was just so comfortable, we spent a lot of time in the apartment with sleeping children so used it a lot!
The rooms were clean, there were heaps of linen and towels. The bathrooms were big and also clean!
The pool was fabulous for kids, it was fairly warm, and there is a great ledge in it for little ones to sit and play. There were plenty of toys left in the pool by the management too which was a great surprise, as the balls, noodles and floaties kept them very amused.
The beach is directly opposite the rear of the apartment complex and has its own walkway which was just so perfect. The walk is only 2 minutes and the beach perfect for the children to play.
The staff were all fantastic, Bec even took my sister to the medical centre as the taxi was a huge wait. They were helpful with everything we asked of them. We had a babysitter one night which went seamlessly and was so nice to have a night out!
We hired a highchair and cot which were both of good quality and clean, and we also hired a pram for walks on the beach, and a bike with a childs seat. None of them were costly, 50 dollars for the stay, and also we hired beach towels which saved a lot of luggage space!
We honestly believe we paid for the quality we got.
We would love to return one day! Hopefully in the not too distant future!
