We chose the Mai Tai for a low key get-away on a friend's suggestion and could not have been happier. It was everything we expected and more. Andre and Anthony the owners could not have been more welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived. The rooms are fabulous with outdoor terraces and showers surrounded with incredible views, lush rainforest and amazing bird life. It truly is more Bali than Bali. It was great to lounge around the porches or pool and read for days on end. With only four rooms, it was always quiet. We ended up feeling as though we were staying at a friend's private villa. There is no on site restaurant, but Port Douglas or Mossman are only 10 minutes away when you are ready to head out for a meal or entertainment. Some have complained about the lack of high end resort amenities, but actually I can't imagine choosing this part of Queensland in the first place if that is what one is truly interested in. The owners know the area inside and out and set up perfect tours. We had stayed in the region on prior trips but did not enjoy it half as much as on our most recent stay at the Mai Tai. We plan to go back there time and again. If you are looking for a way to just unwind and relax in a beautiful tropical setting, this fits the bill.

My partner and I stayed at the resort for 5 nights (1st - 6th November) and absolutely loved every minute (even all the "animal and insect" noises on an evening). After reading previous reviews I don't really have a great deal to add. Anthony and Andre were fantastic hosts - very professsional/ friendly and attentive. Breakfast was great and set us up for a busy day either lazing around the pool/ travelling through the Daintree Rainforest or snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef. I would, however, recommend that you hire a car as taxi fares were quite expensive when we checked them out. A special mention to the two gorgeous dogs that Anthony and Andre own - adorable! Once again thank you both for a fantastic stay - we will be back!

We spent 4 fantastic days here and would come back any time. This place is certainly unusual and not the usual resort style hotel. Not sure if even the description hotel is right but this is not any way a negative at all.
I will be back sometime soon for sure.

We had an enjoyable five night stay here. Rooms are good and Andre and Anthony are congenial hosts. It's a bit different with the Balinese get-up, and it's certainly very quiet being remotely located and only having four rooms in total.

However, would have to say it is a little pricey for what it is. It certainly isn't five star luxury. But if money's not a big issue, and you're looking for something a bit different, with an independent vibe, this is worth it.

You should also know it has a couple of (very nice) dogs on the premises, and also that there's nothing in walking distance (which was a problem for us as only one of us could drive.)
