“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2007

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights taking in New Years Eve also. I was a bit concerned after i booked it as the pool is very small and some other reviews commented on noise. We did try to book into the Heritage Outrigger but it was fully booked.

On our arrival the receptionist could not have been more helpful in terms of recommending trips and general local knowledge. Our apartment was huge and spotless and modern, We had a lovely balcony which overlooked the inlet and St Mary's Church and indeed celebrated New Years Eve on the balcony after cooking up a few steaks in the kitchen (well equipped) as there was a fireworks display right in front of our balcony - no point going elsewhere as we had the perfect view!!

Port Douglas is a truly amazing place and its very hard to leave it behind. There are so many fabulous restaurants and I recommend Nautilus and Zinc. The Station is a great pub with a real relaxed and carefree feel to it. The beach is lovely, it was just a pity it was stinger season when we were there. Even though they have stinger net they are not 100% protective so I didn't spend too long in the water!!!

We stayed at the Outrigger on the Inlet for 4 nights in Arpil 2006. We would hav preferred the Heritage for the pool, but it was fully booked. That said, we had a nice corner room overlooking the 'inlet', in truth, the inlet is rather far away and you can't really even see the water, but it was a nice room, very clean, furniture was clean but average, huge porch, it wonderful sitting out on the patio listening to the nearby bar music. The pool is a complete laugh, barely larger than my bathtub, and there are no lifts to get to the second floor. The room came with free breakfast at Mango restaurant, right up the street from the hotel, breakfast was great!! Even if you don't stay at teh Outrigger, go to Mango's for breakfast! The reception staff was relatively helpful, but only open til 5pm, then a security service is you contact for the remainder of the night. Overall, we were pleased with the Outrigger, things were kept clean and tidy, and it is the PERFECT location at the end of Macrossan St. A great value for a realtively low price ($160/nt inclusing breakfast for 2).

Lastly, i must say, if in town, DO NOT travel to Cairns to see Kjabukai at night, it was a complete joke, and a very expensive on at that, they charge $90/pp to basically see a ridicuous skit. Apparently, these people have no pride in their culture, as this show was a joke to the aborig people. Jeers to Kjabukai!!

Cheers to the Outrigger on the Inlet!

My husband and I spent a week here, we had originally booked a room but on arriving we were offered an upgrade. After viewing the room we decided on the apartment which was wonderful, each morning we sat on the balcony and had breakfast, the hotel is centrally located for all amenities, the reception is only manned during office hours so make sure if requesting information that you do it between 9-5. Definately the highlight of our holiday.

We had an excellent apartment. We were upgraded to a king bed , full living room and kitchen with laundry facilities and deck. The view was not great but the location was downtown and very convenient to reastaurants and shopping. We stayed 3 nights and would stay again. The staff was helpful arraning trips and with whatever you needed. We booked through Expedia during their slow season and got a good price relative to Australian prices in general.

We stayed here in a one bedroom apartment for 6 nights during a month long holiday to Australia and it was by far the best accommodation we had. It was spotlessly clean and has absolutely everything you could need in a perfect location. It was very spacious and had a modern feel. I agree with the previous reviews that the pool was small but we only really used it to cool down in. Port Douglas is such a great town and has so much more to offer than Cairns.

My wife and I spent a week here in Aug. 2005. A bit pricy (AUS$256) but worth it. The location could not be better - on the corner of Warf and Macrossan Street - facing the inlet. Across the street from the park (Sunday market here is not to be missed). Easy access to both the marina (for reef trips) and 4-mile beach (5 min. walk). Suggest avoiding the couple of rooms which face right onto Macrossan St. as they may be noisy. Our room was beautiful! We had a one-bedroom. Spotless, tropical motif, fabulous deck, two televisions, in-room jacuzzi, washer/dryer, microwave, refrigerator, etc. Second floor has better views. Highly recommended.

The location is good and very central. It is very new and well equipped but the hotel room is just too small and the 'Balcony' is actually the corridor.
Either go for the apartment or go elsewhere.
