Best hostel I've been to in a long time. The staff is friendly and went out of their way to help me. The rooms are quiet and clean with en suite bathroom. I ate at the bistro several times. The food was good and reasonably priced. The kitchen facilities are good too.

Room Tip: Stayed in a motel room and in a dorm room. Both were fine.

I came to Port O'Call specifically to do the volunteer program they offered with Hartley's Crocodile Adventures and ecoreserve. The volunteer program was amazing, I got to hold baby koalas, pademelons, and even wrestle a few crocodiles. The people I worked with tried hard to do something cool with me everyday.
But Port O'Call was my home away from home. I loved the chill, beach town vibe. I spent eight weeks traveling in New Zealand and Australia but this was by far my favorite experience. The staff was wonderful and more than kind to me and I met so many great people and made some really great friends. The food also bears mention as they had very affordable specials and the food was amazing!
This place really made me want to travel more, so that I can have more experiences like this.
Kiri, Steve, Tom, Kevin, Nina, Jess you guys are the best! Thanks for a wonderful time!

Fell on this place by accident. Great staff and accomodation. Basic but clean and well priced. Staff and Reception very helpful and kind/interested. The food is great and real good value for money...would certainly stay again...

I stayed here when visiting the Daintree Rainforest and was looking for something nice and cheap that had good reviews.

The most important feature I found was that there was a free shuttle bus service from Cairns airport and CBD to the hostel, and then back again after you check out. I cannot stress how handy this was, saves you lots of money! The staff are friendly, especially the new owner! You could talk to the guy for ages.

The place has a pool, TV area, dining area, kitchen and a bar & bistro open from 6pm til late night. However, these places are a little old fashioned looking and a little dark. The kitchen definitely needs a bit of renovation and there is a lack of handy power sockets around the place for when you want to Skype or phone call without having to worry about running of battery. The TV is also a little rubbish but I have been informed it is soon to be updated.

The bar and bistro is good, they do good food although it's not cheap. Expect to pay around $18-20 for a meal.

The rooms are what I expected for $27 a night. Each room has one bunk bed and two single beds so you're a little unlucky if you get the bunk. They do have secure lockers but they aren't very deep so you could only really fit your phone in them. The place has free air conditioning during the evening. The bathrooms are standard and my shower was amazing.

Location-wise, nothing is really too far from Port Douglas CBD and since it's quite a spread-out town I think it would be unfair to be critical of the location. It's a very quiet area and takes around 15-20 mins to walk to the town.

I would recommend it if you're staying a few days!

We stayed four nights in port o call, the day we checked in, we felt the easy going vibe in the hotel and lots of young people and families choose to stay here because the big commune kitchen saves you lots of cash considering the expensive price for dining out in town. The kitchen has almost everything but u need to buy ur own oil species and food. Room has fan, tv, well maintained bathroom, kettle and tea bag. However, Bed is not super comfortable and the light in the room is a bit dark, and there are really too many Mosquitos, be prepared for that. We tried the food In the set-in restaurant it is average, better to cook or go into town. Apart from that, it is 5 mins to the beach 20mins walk to the town, pretty convenient and if you like talking to new people plus saving a bit cash it is definitely your spot. A bit noisy for people who want a quiet and relaxing holiday. Nice stay in general!

What a wonderful place!
When travelling, every now and then one comes across a really special place like Port O'Call. This is my second stay here in 3 months. The first time I shared in a 4 girl room with ensuite. It was sparkling, it had a fridge, hair drier and a full length mirror!
Last week I shared a private room with a friend. It was big and comfy and backed onto the rainforest.

The staff at Port O'Call were friendly and bent over backwards to help. The wifi, towels, coffee, pool table and book exchange are all free. The beach was a 5 minute stroll and the village centre around a 10 minute walk, but bring a umbrella as when it rains, it pours!!

The lodge has a great environment for travelers and families. The managers Steve and Kiri are really welcoming and genuinely excited to share their knowledge of the region and make it easy to choose what to enjoy in/around Port Douglas and Great Barrier reef. Free shuttle bus from the airport!

The accommodation is basic but the beds are really comfortable and it's quiet.

There is a great bistro and bar. The food is tasty, ample, healthy and cheap. There are some Aussie dishes and Asian inspired dishes. It was fun to meet locals who eat there too. There are shared open spaces to watch TV and chill with a book. It's got the feel of a good local, welcoming and friendly.

I liked the 15min walk to the main strip. I also enjoyed hiring bikes to explore the area.

Coming back with the kids - who will love the pool and hunting for crocs!
