“I definitely recommend it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

I stayed for a few days in this hotel.
Service was excellent. Rooms were clean and had more amenities than the usual. The common places were clean.
Definitely a great place for a very reasonable price, especially when one checks prices at other fancy resorts in Port Douglas.

Nice hostell if you like old people. Many over 60 years old staying in the dorms, but also some young people.
Realy nice with a toilet with shower that you only share with the people in your dorm.
Good clean dorm, with good bed. No locker for your walubels, but the staff locked my walubels in a safe.
The wifi were free, but realy slow and fell out all the time.
The pool is a saltwater pool, and realy small, but its only 10 minutes to walk to the beach and 5 minutes to the City.
Book it in adwance on yha.com.au. if you want to pay at the hostel with a credit card they put a 5 % surcharge on top, so bring cash.

I stayed here for a few months. its a really nice hostel, good range of stuff in the kitchen. decent internet, which is free if your staying there or eating at the restaurant, which is rare in Australian hostels.clean rooms. tv room with comfy sofas. 10min walk into town. pretty quiet, not a party hostel. and really friendly and helpful staff. restaurant bistro thing has some alright food too for good price compared to town.

Port O'Call is located in the beautiful town of Port Douglas. This lovely lodge has everything you need and more for a really good price. They have all kind of rooms in order to suit all the necessities. Bed dorms with just four beds in every room, own bathroom and a small backyard with some chairs. Also they have rooms with a double bed and a bunk or a single extra bed and family rooms. Finally there's the option of deluxe rooms; very comfy and nice with more facilities and luxuries. Perfect to have a nice and quiet breakfast on the backyard before starting the day.
Also there is a big kitchen with all the tools you can need to cook. Is actually the cleanest and more equipped kitchen I have seen in a hostel or motel, with nice areas to have your meals. But if you feel so tired that you don't feel like cooking, you have the restaurant in the same lodge with really tasty food for great value.
There is housekeeping service everyday, so definitely all the rooms are always very clean. And all the staff is very friendly and helpful; one of the housekeepers who was local, gave me really good recommendations about the area when I asked her. Also in reception are so helpful, they know very well the area and they have always wise and honest advises.
Another great point is the complementary transfer from cairns city or airport (return) and the free wifi; speed connection.
All this for a really good price, I was surprised when I had to pay. I think Port Douglas is better option than Cairns; it is beautiful , endless beach, quiet, and for all the best tours it is worth to start them from Port Douglas; closer to the rainforest and closer to the best spots in the Great Reef Barrier. I loved Port Douglas so much that I stayed there double time I had thought.
I stayed there first by my own in a bed dorm and then my boyfriend joined me for a long time so we tried other possibilities. We both loved it and are looking forward to go back as soon as possible!

We stayed in Port Douglas instead of Cairns, and it was a good choice. Our twin hostel room was large and comfortable, with good beds and a clean bathroom, plus a kitchen nearby. There was a little patio area out the back, where we could have breakfast or simply relax. The "evening only" budget air conditioning was fine, and the whole place was a bargain for what we got. The staff were helpful and there were enough things to do nearby, such as visit the town beach, the Great Barrier Reef or the Daintree. The town was easy to walk to, but we were out in a quiet area where the big excitement was not noisy bars but the nightly departure of thousands of fruit bats from the nearby trees (none at Port o' Call). The bistro was great, and there was a bar to have a drink at the end of the day. Tours pick up at this lodge, too. Free pickup in Cairns, and (best of all) free wifi!

I stayed two nights recently and enjoyed the ambience of the place. I found the receptionist Anna very helpful with my onward travel arrangements. There is a pleasant Bistro there too, great choice,in the menu To be recommended.

As with anything, you get what your budget allows. In saying that, there is still some level of quality expected as you are still paying good money.
We stayed in a family room, with en-suite and I have to say that we were extremely happy with our accommodation. There were fresh towels, tea, coffee and fresh milk in the fridge and the room was very open and airy.
As with anything, if you go looking, you will always find fault and the only thing I found was that the bed side cupboard had not been cleaned out after the last clients. What had they left behind? Nothing more than a couple of sealed packets of plastic knives and forks from their airline. Absolutely no biggy.
The milk was replenished on the second day and even though we told the cleaning staff not to worry about our bed as we would be back that night, the bed was redone when we returned.
The lodge is far enough out of town not to be noisy and the front desk staff where friendly amd helpful. I would have absolutely no hassle in staying there again
