“hmmm.. wish i had stayed somewhere else”

Archipelago Studio Apartments

Nov 28, 2007

i thought this would have been a better stay, the room was not clean when i arrived late at night following a note tacked on the door. i was also panicked when ordering the shuttle bus back to the hotel because i realised that they did not have my number, and there is no one at reception at night. but the shuttle bus IS reliable and met me both at the airport and took me there two days later. i stayed at the hotel two nights and took the quicksilver tour to the reef which was fantastic. i might think however, that there are better places around if all the rooms are like the one i had. apartment 3. the owner was kind however and helpful in giving directions.

“Really misleading advertisement for a basic old place”

Archipelago Studio Apartments

We arrived late and there was a note telling us our room number and that the door was unlocked and the ligths were on..... The room looked old and there were lots of bugs welcoming us. There are no toiletries and the TV is the smallest size you could find. The AC only works when the key is placed in the switch so when you leave it turns off! We booked it for 10 nights and stayed only one for obvious reasons. There are lots of other options around and depending on the season you can negotiate a great price at a really nice hotel. You have been warned.....

Stayed at Archipelago for 3 nights. Initially booked for 1 night but decided to book 2 more because we liked it so much.

The location of the hotel cannot be any better. It is right by the main road that leads into Port Douglas. It is litterally 100 meters from the beginning of the beach and also a walking distance to center of town with all the restaurants. It is set in the jungle setting. There is parking and a decent swimming pool.

Our room had rainforest view and had a balcony. The balcony rooms are much nicer than ground floor garden rooms. There is more privacy and there wont' be a garage near by. Our friends sayed in a garden room so we could compare.

Our room had a kitchenette which was very handy. There was also a BBQ grill outside that we used to cook breakfast.

We loved being able to walk to everything around town and to the beach. The owners of the hotel were nice and helpful with our entertainment planning.

we stayed at the Archipelago during the Easter break holiday.

Pros: Great location. About 100m from the 4 mile beach and a short stroll to the shops and restaurants.

Cons: Tiny tiny TV (try 15 inches). We wanted to use the in room phone but couldnt get an outside line after dialling 0. The lighting in our room is only average. The ceiling fan in our room makes a clicking noise when switched on.

I agree w/one of the previous ratings written.

My wife and I stayed all of one night before we left. We also booked an ocean view and saw a whole bunch of trees instead and found it very misleading as well when we booked. The rooms look more like you are visiting someones home then a professional establishment. Our room smelled like mildew maybe due to the fact that they had a carpet throughout the whole apartment. Not sure why you would have a carpet in a tropical climate but you could tell that the carpet had been there awhile with visible stains. We also killed a few roaches and other bugs. We went during the wet season so we understood if there were a few ants or so, but not roaches.

We left and ended up paying less at the Martinique on Macrossan. It is two apartment buildings away and is very nice, newer facilities (or it looked that way), clean and affordable. Check it out.
