We arrived very tired after getting up very early in NZ to catch flight, but what a pleasant surprise. Staff were smiley & pleased to see us, as our hotel room wasnt ready we stored our luggage & were directed by Helen (a real asset to this resort) to the market in Anzac park. On our return our hotel room was ready. It was a basic room, comfy bed, shower a bit grubby.
Breakfast was what you would expect, cereal, lovely fresh fruit, toast, cheese, ham etc with which you can make ham & cheese sandwiches Or croissants & cook them in the sandwich press provided (yum)
Every time you pass the front counter you get a smile & a hello.
The pool area is great, Especially for those with a young family.
more friendly staff at the swim up pool bar.
Yes we would return thanks to Helen, Shoo & staff.

Hello Alfie2531

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Mantra Portsea. I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday. Our continental breakfast buffet has lovely tropical fruit, doesn't it. It's nice to travel north from a colder destination and enjoy fresh fruit. Our ham and cheese toasted sandwiches are also popular.

Thank you also for recognising our friendly staff in all areas of the resort. I'm so glad you mentioned Shoo as she is so friendly and helpful

We do hope we can welcome you back to Mantra Portsea.

What a great experience, friendliest staff - clean rooms with great kitchen... and terrific breakfast to start the day. We played tennis on their court after breakfast, before taking the path next to the hotel to the 4-mile beach. We walked to dinner each night and just the perfect distance, close enough, but also far enough away that the hotel rooms were quite.

Room Tip: one thing to remember is rooms on path side to beach also may mean late night partiers come back on...

Don't be sucked in by the attractive pool area and tropical surrounds - you can get this at most Port Douglas hotels. Note, there was no sign of a fully operational kitchen. Certainly no restaurant, breakfast was continental(limited) and served in what felt like a back packers food hall.

The staff looked lost and it became apparent over the weekend that the Portsea was used as a training ground for the Mantra group as they seemed to have the local area sown up with what I could count 5 hotels with in 1km of each other. I hate to dog the staff & hotel but to be honest this is the first time I've ever felt so compelled to tell my story. The last night I was told to walk to the woodworks(15mins away) to get cutlery. (staff member 'Shoo')

MANTRA! This property/hotel has so much potential! Attention to detail, any detail would be a start and some staff guidance and training would see your retention rate increase I'm sure.

Hello Matt

I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay with us. Our breakfast is a continental buffet that includes: cereals, breads, pastries, fruit, yoghurt, ham, cheese, tea, coffee and juice. We offer a snack menu at the pool bar for lunch and dinner. The resort also has three BBQs for guests who wish to cook in the beautiful grounds of the resort. In the one and two bedroom units there is a kitchenette which has a cooktop and microwave. There are also the delicious Port Douglas restaurants only a ten minute walk away.

Our staff are one of our greatest assets as you will read in many of the other reviews on this forum. Shoo is one of our most valued employees - she is so caring and helpful. We constantly receive glowing comments about this wonderful staff member.

We offer unserviced rates as most of our guests prefer a budget option for their holiday. Daily servicing is available for an additional charge. This means we are able to cater to the needs of all our guests.

Kind regards
Helen

We have just arrived home from the Portsea Mantra Port Douglas. It was a very pleasant break and the hotel was fine for our needs. We had a studio apartment that was fine for our needs, I wou.d say my only whinge would be those showers over a spa bath. Personally I cannot abide spa baths in any hotel room. I just think they are grubby and unpleasant. The staff at reception were without exception lovely, friendly helpful and a credit to the place. The Mantra is very close to the gorgeous beach which was terrific, and my husband made good use of the lap pool. I would be happy to recommend the Portsea for a good central place to stay. Many thanks to them for a great break.
Looking forward to our next visit to the gorgeous Port Douglas and the exciting area all around.

Room Tip: No restaurant or room service, could not delete. The room we had on the lap pool side got a lot of n...

Hello Bookywooky

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Mantra Portsea. Thank you also for appreciating our wonderful staff - they really go out of their way to ensure a guest's stay is special. I'm glad you felt looked after.

As you mentioned our location is perfect: a hop, skip and a jump to the beach and a ten minute walk into town. Close enough to walk but far enough away to be quiet. For the guests who wish to maintain their fitness whilst on holiday, our lap pool and gym are important.

We would love to welcome you back. Please do not hesitate to call on 07 4087 2000 or email on portsea.res@mantra.com.au so that we can look after you.

Major pros: Pool, sundeck, pool bar

We stayed in a hotel style room as opposed to the apartment style rooms. We did so believing we wouldn't need an apartment with kitchen as we planned to eat out every night.

I'd still recommend to book the apartment style, for the added space. The hotel room was a bit cramped for 8 nights and we didnt have our own balcony.

I've read some other recent reviews about this hotel and I didn't have any bad experiences. To me, staying at a beach location resort is not about the fancy room. We were there to spend our time on the beach, by the pool, play a bit of tennis, and go out for dinner. There are plenty of activities in Port Douglas as well, snorkelling the reef, crocodile spotting, the Daintree Rainforest, etc. And therefore the room we stayed in was fine. The bed was comfortable, we had a TV with Foxtel, DVD player, and the bathroom was adequate.

Sure, if you're after absolute luxury resort accommodation, this probably isn't it. But if you plan to spend most of your time outside, there are plenty of facilities this resort has to offer which makes it a good choice. Plus the beach access is also very convenient.

Room Tip: Don't pick a hotel style room if you need space. Get a 1 bedroom apartment instead.

Hello Lauren

Thank you for your factual review about Mantra Portsea. We really appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback about our beautiful resort.

The balconies are wonderful aren't they. They give guests the opportunity to dine, read and relax outside in the balmy air of the tropics. To ensure a balcony guests need to book one bedroom apartments or above in room type.

As you say in your review we are very close to the beach and we have great facilities such as the tennis court, a gym, three pools and an in house day spa. We are also close to town and provide a complimentary tour booking service for all the activities available such as the reef and the rainforest.

Many thanks for your contribution.
Kind regards
Helen

Kids loved the pool & side. Shame its not solar heated. When the swim up bar was open it was great to grab a cocktail. Easy walk into town & the beach.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback on your stay at Mantra Portsea. Children love the lagoon pool and water slide - it keeps them happy for hours yet we have two other pools for everyone to enjoy.

Our swim up pool bar is one of the many wonderful features of Mantra Portsea. I'm glad you enjoyed it. In the high season is is open from 11am daily. The cocktails are worth writing about aren't they.
