“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

4 night stay here as part of our honeymoon. The hotel is very clean and Fred was very friendly and was happy to recommend local attractions and make dinner reservations. The pool is nice and secluded and there were loads of books and magazines to read. We also too advantage of the free parking which was a good bonus.

Very close to the beach and restaurants. We felt very safe walking back late at night.

We would recommend and stay again

Fred and Antonia were soooo helpful during our stay. Their advice on restaurants and places to visit during our time in Port Douglas was fabulous. The location of Martinique is great and we have recommended this lovely boutique hotel to lots of friends and acquaintances. We will definitely stay here again.

Before we arrived I could tell Fred & Antonia cared about their guests. They answered all our emails quickly, made arrangements for our transfers, and, on arrival were there waiting for us. Our suite was just perfect, lovely and clean, super in size, our own private patio, larger than average bathroom. Lots of little extra's that you could avail yourself of, like magazines, books, free chilled drinking water, the barbecue, and, of course the experience and advice of Fred & Antonia. Taking time to find out a bit about us, they advised on best excursions and trips and restaurants for us.They got it right every time. Making all the bookings for us made for an easy and relaxed vacation. To top it all they are in a great position, easy walking to the beach, shops, ocean, in fact everything. Much better than some of the larger hotels. Very rare to find such a sweet place to stay. If you want big, impersonal, and expensive then this isnt the place for you, if you want genuine, friendly, caring then you could'nt want for a better place to stay. Thank you Fred & Antonia, next time we will stay longer.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor suite which was perfect for us.

The owners Fred and Antonia live in , they were both very welcoming and they gave us good advise on what to do for our short visit. The suite (lounge and bedroom) were a good sizeb, everything was clean and cooking facilities were just right Great value and good location for the rest of the resort.

Room Tip: This a small hotel so all rooms are different.

Great location, great room, great space, and great hosts. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay there. We definitely made use of their kitchen and even grilled in their downstairs patio one night. Hosts Fred and Antonia definitely cared about their guests and would always ask us how our days went. I would definitely stay again.

We lucked out to find this apartment at the last minute upon arriving in Port Douglas. Skip the overpriced resorts and book this if you have the chance. I suppose it isn't "luxurious," but we found it to have everything we could want or need. The unit is less than five minutes from the ocean (perhaps another five minutes to the netted swim area) and the owners are very friendly and helpful. Beach chairs are provided, along with communal seating, a grill, pool, and filtered water. The rooms (actually apartments), have a kitchenette with dishes, a living room and separate bedroom, and private balconies with comfortable seating and tables. We found it to be very clean, cool, and comfortable. The parking below was ample and connects to laundry facilities, if needed. My favorite part was that despite the open shutters, there was not one bug in sight.
We stayed on Saturday night and Fred recommended some local restaurants and suggested we visit the market on Sunday. If you find yourself in Port Douglas, book this ASAP!

Sometimes Tripadvisor reviews baffle me. Right now I'm amazed at that person from December 1st, complaining about bed bugs and smoking. He surely must have this property confused with another. The Martinique is a non-smoking property and always has been! I don't know about the bed bugs; there were absolutely no issues when we were there, but having met the friendly owners I can guarantee you that they would've dealt with any issues immediately and efficiently. If you have any issues you should tell them and let them deal with it!

As a matter of fact, the owners, Fred and Antonia, were so helpful and nice, that in the evenings I sometimes ended up chatting with them for a while, just for fun. They live in Port Douglas, so know the best places to go and eat, and can recommend you what to do and which tours are best. They are a fountain of knowledge and make themselves available to you at any time of day.

In addition, the property is beautiful and like others have said, it's in the most perfect location in Port Douglas you can wish for: At the end of the main shopping street, so it's close to all fun and entertainment, yet far enough to be completely quiet and a 2 minute walk to Four Mile Beach.

Our room at the Martinique was spotless. And if you don't find things completely to your liking, JUST ASK! Fred and Antonia will accommodate your every need.
Don't hesitate to stay here. You will be pleased (plus, it's adults only! no screaming children in the pool! it's heaven!).

P.s. the views are not great; there are other buildings on both sides, but there's gorgeous tropical plants and palm trees in the middle to make up for it. And really, you won't need a view - everything you'll want will be right outside your doorstep anyway! And you'll fall asleep to the gentle whit noise of geckos and tropical frogs in the pond... you won't regret your stay!
