“Very Relaxing Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

Had a lovely 3 night stay at the sheraton Port Douglas this month with my husband and 2 children. The room a little outdated but very spacious. The pool and surrounds lovely the poolside menu a bit overpriced for kids. The beach was beautiful. Overall very happy.

Room Tip: We had a room with 2 double beds it was very spacious with a dressing room / wardrobe area and an ar...

booked last minute and was extremely pleased with the hotel - the service was great as was the room and the setting was wonderful.
We were given a room upgrade for our anniversary which was an extremely lovely gesture
great location walked from hotel to Port Douglas and back - they could maybe do with signs on their beach entrance so guest can remember where they came on - we walked a little too far but the walk was great so it really did not matter :)

Room Tip: please remember that this hotel is in the far north of queensland and yes it was not built last year...

The Sheraton was the first resort to open in Port Douglas and is great if you are visiting the area and the Great Barrier Reef. This is an upscale and expensive place. The hotel lobby is quite attractive and the bar/lounge is pleasant. The pools and grounds are lovely and well maintained. Two distinct fail points -- restaurant service is poor. When you have to hail the service to get water at a table with people who tell you they like water, this is a sign of bad staff training by management. The food was unexceptional, which is a pity because of the prices they charge. If I'm paying $23 for a hamburger and fries, I expect it to be one very tasty hamburger. So they need to step it up in the kitchen. The buffet is unremarkable. You cannot simply throw a bunch of steamed shrimp on the buffet line and declare it first rate. The other things is the room I stayed in (a suite) was nicely appointed in Tropical standard, but the carpet was worn and discolored. I understand that carpet gets dirty under heavy traffic, but on-going maintenance is what ordinarily allows a company to charge a premium for it's rooms. There is competition for hotel trade in Port Douglas, Sheraton needs to accept that and upgrade.

Dark and dingy was the first words that came to mind, featuring an enormous lobby with very outdated furniture and lighting. Everything was outdated with this place I actually felt depressed. I only came in to see whats Skase had built, shame it has all gone down hill from what what was probably a grand development in its prime.

The bed was comfortable, the shower was terrific; however the black mould around the air conditioning was bad, as was the musty smell in the room. Staff very good, friendly & helpful. Desperately needs a major overhaul and renovation, paint, bathroom fitting, carpets...
Great gardens and setting.
Pool still good & great beach access.

I had heard reports that Sheraton Mirage was in need of an upgrade. So, yes, the carpet was a little faded but the service was outstanding, the grounds and pool areas immaculate, the facilities first class, the food plentiful and well prepared.
The rooms were most comfortable, with plenty of room to move, the was linen was fresh and crisp and the bed comfortable.
So, yes, some holiday makers may be looking for the latest in decor, but, if clean and comfortable is your thing, with great service, good food and plenty of it, then Sheraton Mirage is most certainly worth a stay.

Room Tip: All rooms are well placed. It may be wise to check if your wing is smoking or non smoking

We stayed just last week in a Villa at the Mirage. I have read reviews indicating the resort is dated. Perhaps some areas are, but our villa was wonderful. it was HUGE and more than ample for us and our 10 and 6 year old boys. Not cheap during school holidays, but I'm sure better deals would be available in non-peak periods. Food at the included buffet brekky was great. The service was great. All staff extremely pleasant and helpful. The patrons...well, if you think putting your towel on a deckchair at 9 in the morning and then sauntering out at 12 noon to use it is good manners, think again. I seriously suggest that the Mirage staff take a leaf out of the book of Peppers at Kingscliffe . There, if no-one uses the deckchair for half an hour, their belongings get removed and sent to lost property. The rude patrons at Mirage , some of whom hogged two deckchairs (one in the shade, and one in the sun) were absolutely beyond belief. I would never act that way and those of you who do it should be ashamed of yourselves. I got one deckchair for the entire week. Fortunately at the villas, there are little pools scattered everywhere, so we didn't have to worry about the selfish sun-lounge hogs at the lagoon pool. We had a pool to ourselves whenever we wanted. As you can see, this issue really annoyed me. It is up to the Mirage to fix it by providing signage (as at Peppers Kingscliffe) saying that an unoccupied sun-lounge will result in goods being placed in lost property. Oh, one other complaint. The gym - it is really, really bad. It is sooooo old....looks like it hasn't been updated since the 1990s. And there are only a couple of treadmills and a bike, and a couple of free weights. Very substandard for a resort of this quality.

Room Tip: The Villas are expensive but amazing. You can save money by using the great kitchen facilities and...
