“Quality resort with more improvements to come.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We spent 8 nights here in late July 2012 in one of the new 1 bedroom apartments and can honestly say that the room was superb, so good in fact that I got the urge to bake muffins on 2 occasions. Issues that I raised with management and were to be addressed were the cold pool, (solar coming), the small serving sizes for dinner, (although they did have buy one get one free at the time), the showers in the rooms caused a very wet bathroom floor, (were to be fixed with low flow shower heads). The coke and beverage machines were not working the whole time we were there, so perhaps there is a shortage of servicemen in tropical north Queensland. We found the front desk girls very friendly and helpful and were an excellent source of information on places to see and things to do. We are Wyndham Timeshare owners and it is good to see the company expanding with quality resorts for their owners.

I stayed here for 4 nights while attending a friends wedding at the same hotel. It is still under renovation and I had a room that had not been done yet. Room was comfortable, although the air-conditioner was slightly loud, possibly due to age.

Once the renovations are completed I am sure the place will be a lot better. I didn't try any of the restaurants or facilities, rather just used it as somewhere to sleep.

This is no 5 star resort, but is priced correctly and is close to town and quiet which are bonuses. A balcony off the room would have been good.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Its not in the centre of Pt Douglas but about 5 minutes drive from Macrossan St. The staff were relaxed and friendly and the room recently renovated.

There's no balcony for the upper floor rooms but the ground level rooms have access to a small patio, as yet unscreened.

The restaurant offered a wide variety of options at reasonable prices.

No WiFi in the rooms but available throughout the pool and restaurant areas.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

Let me begin by saying that we stayed here just before the takeover by Ramada, so perhaps things have improved since Ramada got involved. We stayed here for 6 nights as part of our honeymoon. It was meant to be a relaxing break from travelling for a while, but did not turn out that way.

The positives - Well, the food in the restaurant was nice, although overpriced. There was a bus that stopped outside the hotel regularly and brought you directly to the town centre. And it was close to the beach and a small grocery/excellent DVD rental shop. The bar staff were friendly, although so friendly they were comfortable to tell us how much they all hated working there. I believe there was one bar man who had just handed in his notice and was giving out free drinks to admittedly very few guests present in the bar in celebration.

The negatives - The biggest problem was the service. It was the worst we've ever experienced. I lost count of the number of times we had to complain to reception about the stains on sheets and cushions in our room and absolutely nothing was done about it. I think the most action taken was that one of them went in and had a look at the stains and decided they were grand. They decided that the stains weren't blood, like we thought they were. Having given up on trying to reason with the immature gap year reception staff, we started asking them to have their manager call and speak to us. Again, this was ignored - repeatedly! We wasted so much of our time there getting frustrated with the level of cleanliness and attitude of the staff.

Other less serious negatives were that the room was dated and dark. Certainly no special treatment for our honeymoon in terms of room allocation. It was a ground floor room with patio doors that opened up on to a narrow pathway with tall trees that allowed no natural light through. There were 2 sorry looking chairs plonked outside the door but you'd hardly want to sit out on a path. The pool area also didn't get much sun due to the position of the trees and the water was freezing as a result. The "spa" was closed during our visit. The DVD player we hired from reception didn't work properly. Again this was made worse by the way it was handled by the staff. It is quite far from the town centre and walking back late at night wasn't really an option. There was a smoking area in the bar/restaurant full of overflowing ashtrays and it smelled horribly of stale smoke. You had to go through it to get to the toilets.

Overall, it was the worst hotel we've ever stayed in and not the relaxing break we were seeking. Such an unprofessional outfit. A terrible place for a honeymoon. We just kept ourselves busy by going out on day trips to escape it. The problem seemed to be the management team really. There was a distinct lack of management presence to monitor and guide the young staff who all seemed to be there for the holiday rather than to work. When we checked out, we discovered that a manager had refunded one of our dinner bills in response to our complaints about the cleanliness of the room, but why did they not just speak to us like we requested. We would have had a much more enjoyable and relaxing stay if someone had just addressed our complaint and tried to remedy at the time. Even an acknowledgement would have been something. It was extremely frustrating to be ignored. I hope that Ramada have made some drastic changes to the management since taking over, and put a bit of effort into improving the room decor, comfort and cleanliness. However, the nasty memories would prevent me from returning to this place even if it was bought over by Four Seasons.

Love the resort, love the town. 4 mile beach is a walk away and the water was Devine to walk in. Didn't get to swim though. :(. Resort has overcome flooding earlier this year. We loved talking to bozo, the resident cockatoo, but he seems a little bored as he doesn't have enough to do on his perch.

Clean room, facilities. Room service was delivered in a timely manner but the mud cake needed more ice-cream and was a tad dry.

Look forward to getting back here again.

The hotel was terrible. It stank, towels were stained, the restaurant was a rip off and when I complained they refunded me as they had "other" complaints about it too! The thing that annoyed me the most is I filled out the survey with how terrible it was and posted it to head office. They called me not to discuss their filthy hotel but to try and offer me a deal!!!!! Couldn't believe it how rude. They couldn't care less they just want your money. Don't stay here unless you like cheap and nasty
