“Lovely stay, nice location, huge apartment, warm welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012

We enjoyed a 7 night stay in apartment 12. The accommodation was on the top floor and looked out towards the sea (through palm trees and was literally just across the road from the beach). We couldn't believe how lucky we were to have such a large space as the apartment was three bedroomed (smallest two rooms locked off) and had two bathrooms (one was a very big ensuite), a huge master bedroom with lots of storage, a huge and very well equipt kitchen and a huge dining and living area - amazing! The only thing that wasn't so huge was the balcony, but it was more than sufficient for our needs. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome, we were helped to our apartment with our bags and our hosts made sure we were okay for food etc. (it was one of the nicest welcomes I have every received at an accommodation). As part of our low season deal we got a free excursion and we opted for the Aquarius sunset cruise - we were supplied with a lovely bottle of white wine to take with us as it was a BYO setup (I love BYO... we need this in the UK) - this cruise is well worth doing and the catamaran is brand new and very luxurious. We stayed in early January (from the 5th to 12th 2012) and the weather was amazing (not one bit of rain). I think we were very lucky because the locals said it was unusual for the time of year and they were waiting for the rainy season to begin. Port Douglas and the area is lovely. We enjoyed taking the hire car up to Mossman Gorge, Cape Tribulation & the Daintree Rainforest and did the Bruce Belcher Crocodile Hunting trip (this is a must and Bruce Belcher is a legend). Enroute we stopped at the Daintree Ice Cream place to try some unusual flavours of ice cream (wattleseed, We also went up to the Tablelands and visited the Coffeeworks in the Cairns Highlands, a lovely mango winery and we then looped back round onto the coast road to visit Palm Cove enroute back to Port Douglas. We went on the Quicksilver for a snorkelling trip, which was expensive and commercial, but a great choice for me as I am a little scared of open water and they have pontoons fixed on the Barrier reef so it felt very safe. We also got a 30% discount on the Lowe Isle snorkelling trip the Quicksilver group run later in the holiday and the first trip had really built my confidence so I was happy snorkelling from shore and on my own. It's pretty pricey to eat out in PD so we opted to BBQ a few evenings - especially after a poor experience eating at the Iron Bar (AWFUL, RUDE STAFF, OVERPRICED AND CRUELTY TO CANE TOADS)... anyway a bottle of wine on the beach followed by a BBQ was something we really enjoyed... very relaxing! All in all this was a lovely location, we had a great time and as this was part of our belated honeymoon trip we really weren't disappointed and would recommend this place to other people.

Room Tip: Room 12 is huge with nice outlook towards the sea

For our latest holiday we stayed at Balboa Holiday Apartments and would recommend to everyone who is looking to stay at Port Douglas. It is located less than 1 minute walking distance to Four Mile Beach and at the quiet end of Macrossan Street yet also walking distance to the many restaurants and supermarkets located within the street. On our arrival we were met with luscious surroundings and the very helpful owners in Lynette and Andrew who were very welcoming and are always up for a good chat! Upon entering our apartment we were overwhelmed with how spacious and luxuious our apartment was and most importantly how clean it was! There was ample room with three bedrooms and two bathrooms for our family of 4. Our fully equipped kitchen was just that! We were able to cook meals like we do at home! The beds were extremely comfortable with ample cupboard space! Our spacious balcony faced onto Garrick Street with views of the beautiful Four Mile beach and also faced onto one of two great swimming pools within the complex. Lynette and Andrew were very very helpful with anything that we needed like organising Barrier Reef Cruises to checking us out for our flight home! We would highly recommend Balboa Holiday Apartments to anyone wanting comfortable accommodation in a great location! Will stay there for many more holidays to come!!

The Accommodation and Location of Balboa Holiday Apartments are 2 reasons we will be returning to stay here on our next trip to Port Douglas.

After a horror start to our holiday with what should have been a 4 hour trip blown out to a 12 hour one (flight downgrade and a 5 hour stopover in Brisbane), it was like winning Tattslotto to arrive at Balboa and be shown our beautiful, spacious and light apartment. From the huge balcony/verandah with its sunbaking lounges, outdoor setting, barbeque and view to the beach, to the large kitchen/loungeroom with its 2 three seater couches, the spacious family bathroom and ensuite bathroom (1 each for my husband and I, woohoo) and comfy bed it was by far the best holiday accommodation we have ever had. There was also a fully equipped laundry in the apartment which was very handy (thought I had better mention that). I do have to say that we were lucky enough to be in their 3 bedroom apartment (which had 2 of the bedrooms closed off) hence the extra bathroom, but the other apartments are equally as big.

There is a good sized pool and a couple of wading pools for kids, and free use of beach chairs if you prefer to have a dip at the beach - which has a netted swimming area.

Balboa is at the quiet end of the main street and only a 3 minute walk to the centre of town, which has an abundance of restaurants, pubs, cafes and all kinds of shops as well as a Coles supermarket. Four Mile Beach is just across the road which was great for my early morning walks.

Any trips or tours can be booked at reception and a lot of them either provide a pick up service from your accommodation or they are within walking distance. There is also a handy bus service or you can hire a car, motor bike or bicycle locally (in peak season I would look at pre booking).

Our hosts Lynette and Andrew are lovely people and went out of their way to make our holiday a memorable one. Thank you guys and we look forward to staying with you again.

Room Tip: We always try to book our holidays for 'out of peak season', so don't hesitate to ring a...

To Lynette & Andrew, thank you for your hospitality at Balboa Appartments, we had a wonderful stay in your appartments, we found them very spacious, sunny and clean. And what a great location!! Across the road from the beach and litterally a 2 minute walk to the shops & restaurants, but still far enough away from town noise & hussle & bussle. We look forward to 2012

By far the best combination of spacious accommodation and location, over the road from 4 Mile Beach and just a short stroll from all that Macrossan Street has to offer. Lynette and Andrew were gracious hosts and made for a memorable stay. Balboa will be our no.1 choice when next we're able to visit this idyllic place.

Was a great stay, definitely recommendable.

Location : Watching over the Pacific ( if you are lucky with the apartment as not all of them do ).
But definitely a very short stroll to the beach where you can swim and surf.
( we were there in july, beach might be closed in jan/feb because of jellyfish )

was also great service from andrew/lynette to book trips and ensure that all fall in place properly.

if in port douglas do not forget to go to reefs and cape tribulation !!!

We've stayed in Port Douglas for our annual "winter" holiday for several years now, and for the last 3 years we've stayed at Balboa. Lynette and Andrew are lovely hosts, always very friendly and helpful. The apartment we've stayed in is fantastic, very large, and the location is perfect, literally around the corner from both the beach and Macrossan St. The kids love having both pools and beach so close to where we're staying, and we love having all the shops and restaurants within walking distance. We've already booked again for next year!

Room Tip: We go for a room towards the back, it has a very safe balcony with table, banana lounges and a BBQ a...
