“AMAZING PENTHOUSE!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2010

When we arrived early at the Coconut Grove, our room was not ready but they were happy to proceed with all the check in and we returned in one hours time. We were shown to our room and our first impressions was i want an apartment like this. It was stunning, we were then welcomed with a huge platter of cheeses and fruits and crackers, not small a huge plate.
It was very big, roomy, plasma TV and pool and spa were amazing especially with the views up stairs and privacy.

The only disapointment with our room was some sort of flea biting our legs as we sit and watched TV. As we had already bites from the Daintree we noticed our bites on our legs had increased and it was from the Penthouse.

We did report this to management and they said it was Sand Flys ... MMM not sure about that but anyhow they were to look in to it.
That was the only one disapointment!!

For the price of this Penthouse you would not get this in any other state.

This is in the main street of Port Douglas shops and resturants, no need for a car!!

We moved to the Coconut Grove apartments because the Sea Temple could not find a room for us that wasn't full of mold. All of us are asthmatics, so the one night at the Sea Temple was pure torment. We moved to Coconut Grove on our 2nd day in Port Douglas - no mold!!!

Coconut Grove is located at the 4 Mile Beach end of Macrossan Street, the latter being the main street in Port Douglas. It is brand new 5 to 6 star apartment accommodation. Some of the rooms have ther own plunge pool AND jacuzzi, but we are more swimmers than plungers, so we knew that we'd make more use of the building's pool and the nearby beach than a plunge pool.

But if you have small children that you want to keep an eye on, or are in a group of 2 to 3 couples and will hang out in the plunge pool and/or jacuzzi, these rooms are a great option.

The spacious, airy and bright apartments are all 3 bedrooms, but if you opt to use only 1 or 2, the management simply locks the rooms that you don't use. There is a large anteroom to the apartments, perfect for sandy or dirty shoes and beach gear. The master bedroom has an enormous walk in closet; and the ensuite has a shower (excellent showerhead, by the way), large, oval stand-alone spa bath and double sinks. The main bathroom has a shower, double sinks and the washer and dryer.

The attention to detail here extends to the high quality appliances - all Miele; Westinghouse double fridge and lovely cutlery and crockery/dishes and plates; and Panasonic televisions: large, flat-screen in the lounge room and smaller one in the master bedroom. They could improve on the quality of the pots and pans, but this is being nitpicky and spoiled by the high quality of everything else.

Even the enormous barbeque outside has an long bench/countertop, its own sink and small fridge. The outdoor furniture is as lovely as the interior furniture.

Best of all, the building is structurally sound so it is dead quiet at nighttime and the location - away from the bars, restaurants and shops, contributes to the silence at night. However, the commecial district starts just literally a block away. The beach is at the other end of the road, about 1 minute walking distance from Coconut Grove.

There is no concierge but Sharyn, in the front office, is always eager to assist with bookings for anything. She is wonderful.

Parking is free downstairs and there is even a secure parking area for Coconut Grove guests, since the free parking is also for the few retail shops in the building complex.

We would definitely come back to Coconut Grove.

Coconut Grove is located right on the main street in Port Douglas so no need to wait on bus transfers like the majority of other resorts in the town. 4 adults stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment - master bedroom very roomy with walk-in wardrobes and ensuite with spa bath. Second double room with ensuite lacked space for suitcases, so we used the spare third bedroom (twin room) to leave our luggage. Six adults would be a squash - perhaps ok for 4 adults and 2 kids. Nice kitchen -all modern appliances and flash flat screen tv. Couches in sitting room could be improved - not overly comfortable. All in all a great apartment - nice touch of a welcoming cheese plate was also well received. Main gripe with the resort is the lack of customer service. Main person working there did not know how to speak to people - no friendly mannerism - when we were checking out she didn't even ask how our stay was! Very odd for such a glamorous apartment complex. Perhaps they don't see that as part of the experience given it is not really a resort style place (more serviced apartments) however for the price you would expect a better level of hospitality from staff. (Note a younger person who we dealt with on one occasion was great)/

I have been to Port Douglas a few times and this trip we decided to stay at the new resort Coconut Grove. We had seen it being built on one of our previous trips so I checked out the website when we were planning our next trip to Port Douglas. We stayed in a balcony apartment for 10 nights.Cleanliness is at the top of my list and Coconut Grove got my approval - very nice.
The bed was very comfortable and I really enjoyed the spa bath in our ensuite. Not to mention the huge walk in wardrobe.
My husband made good use of the lap pool every morning and the sun loungers around the pool area was a great spot for me to read my book. We traeted ourselves to dinner out a few nights which was very easy as we could walk to all the good restaurants. On the nights we stayed in we cooked in the apartment, the kitchen was very clean and well equiped. We also enjoyed the odd barbecue out by the pool. We found the staff at Coconut Grove to be very friendly, helpful and nothing was a problem. We really enjoyed our trip and would definetly stay at Coconut Grove again.

Coconut Grove apartments were amazing, and the staff exceptionally friendly!!
We stayed in a 3 bdr penthouse apartment with two other couples and other friends stayed in a 2 bdr balcony apartment both rooms were great and very spacious!! The penthouse was absoulute class with a fantastic private rooftop level with our very own pool. Great for lazy days in the sun and entertaining friends at night. What a wonderful way to spend your time in Port Douglas.

We travelled to Port Douglas January this year. We stayed at Coconut Grove for 7 nights. My partner and I were travelling with another couple so I booked us a 2 bedroom Terrace apartment that had it's own pool. The outdoor area was amazing! We spent most nights sitting around our private pool relaxing, having our own bbq was great. We certainly weren't cramped - the apartments are very big and comfy. The furnishings are lovely and it was immaculately clean. The staff were all very friendly and helpful right from when I booked to organising our reef and daintree trips to when we left. The Coconut Grove is right on the Macrossin Street so we were walking distance to evrything. I would certainly recommend these apartments to everyone - we already booked for next year!

I can't tell people how amazing this hotel is!
The location is right in the middle of Port Douglas, we didn't have to use our car at all. Many of the other large resorts are quite secluded and a 20min walk from town and in this heat, you don't want to walk far!
I don't want to go on about what has already been said here a number of times, the service, cleanliness, modernness, it's all fantastic. Our private rooftop pool and bbq area was a fantastic treat. We found it to be very private and quiet. We were in a penthouse and if we walked to the edge of our massive balcony we could see the floor below's pool but really there is no reason to walk to the edge.. there is so much space up there. The only thing that could have improved this area was an umbrella/shade for the table. We were lucky enough to have sunny weather but it was awfully hot and bright even for breakfast.. we didn't attempt to eat lunch out there. Will visit again and recommend to everyone! Thanks for the wonderful experience!
