“Waterfront Terraces”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

We took friends from UK here for a long weekend. Luckily, we found that the two bedroom flats are on the top floor which gave us an even better view of the sea. Our friends thought it was all lovely.
The rooms were good, well-maintained and clean, beds OK and cooking facilities acceptable. Really no complaints at all

Room Tip: Booking two bedrooms gets the top floor and best views

Needed a place to stay in Cairns for a couple of weeks. Loved the feel of this one. A touch of heritage with the shutters and a beautiful outlook across the Esplanade gardens to the water. Good if you like to do a bit of plane spotting as the airport is nearby but not too close. A little bit of a walk into town but it's great to be amongst the locals in the morning or late afternoon exercising along the Esplanade walk and cycle tracks. Handy to have a car to get to local supermarkets like Piccones in Manoora. The Botanic Gardens and Red and Blue Arrow walks are also close by with some nice little eating places there and in Edge Hill village.
Accommodation was very comfortable with a ground floor apartment away from the swimming pool. Comfortable lounge area with lovely view and good kitchen though could do with a few more utensils. Bedroom decent size but no view. Enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Suggest a room away from the pool.

Close to the airport and about a 10 minute walk downtown, this apartment was economical and perfect for our 8 day stay. Air conditioning, washer and dryer, kitchen with stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher. All appliances worked fine. Comfortable bed and furniture. The tours we booked picked us up from the rear parking lot and all the taxi drivers knew where to drop us off. Andrew at the front desk was very helpful with booking tours and information about Cairns. We are mature travelers and are pretty picky about accommodations. This one was great.

Room Tip: Our apartment was one floor above the ground floor. Great view of the Coral Sea!

We stayed in apartment 1. Although the room itself was adequate, well equipped and probably represented good value for money, it was incredibly noisy. Putting aside aircraft noise, we were kept awake at night by water hammer and neighbouring air conditioning units going on and off. There was also a lot of noise pollution from the room above. We could hear them using the toilet, dropping cutlery, using the extractor fan, having a conversation etc. Our 2 year old struggled to get to sleep each night and woke frequently. We slept less than 4 hours a night. Not much of a holiday. We asked to be moved but they were full. We would have moved to a different hotel if we hadn't had to forfeit the entire cost of the stay. I don't know if the second and third floor rooms are any better but I would avoid the rooms on the ground floor unless you are a very heavy sleeper.

Room Tip: We were in room 1 on the ground floor at the water hammer/adjacent air conditioning units were incre...

The hosts were friendly and gave good advice on where the better places to eat were close to the apartments.

Having come from the Jack and Newell, these are NOT luxury apartments. The location is North Cairns and is a long walk from the center of town. You will probably need a car to access central Cairns.

The apartment we had was on the ground floor with easy access to the pool. The apartment had a very musty smell when we first arrived and by the time we left, we had managed to air out most of the smell. It seemed to come from the laundry/bathroom which does not have good ventilation. The bathroom had suffered water damage at some stage with signs of mould in some places. Bear in mind you are in the tropics and this sort of thing happens.

The fittings and furniture were adequate and the kitchen appliances were relatively modern. Overall a usable and functional apartment with good flow from the living area to the pool side outdoor area.

The apartment we were in had the air conditioning compressor units for 4 apartments on the other side of the bedroom wall within a few feet of where the bed head is. Fortunately, the weather wasn't hot enough for all of the apartments to use the air conditioning, but one of the apartments decided to start the air conditioner at 4.30 in the morning and that was the end of any sleep for the night.

The noise from the aircraft taking of and landing at Cairns airport was quite loud but doesn't happen too often and does not appear to be during the night.

The pool itself was clean and quite enjoyable and it includes a spa as part of the pool which is on a timer. Car parking was quite good with easy access. We didn't use the wifi as it was additional cost. The esplanade is out the front with some excellent walking and exercise areas.

Overall it was ok for the special price that we got. I would recommend that you look out for the quite good deals that they can do. Also bear in mind that the other ground floor and above units probably wont suffer from the air conditioner noise.

Room Tip: Don't get apartment 7 if you are a light sleeper.

Stayed here for 12 nights and while I find it hard to believe the 4.5 star rating it is very comfortable and the position is excellent. We had a one bedroom apartment on the 2nd level with great views over The Esplanade and Trinity Bay. Apartment was very clean with full laundry. Kitchen utensils could do with updating but were adequate for our needs. For the price, we would certainly stay here again and would recommend to friends.

Room Tip: Rooms on levels 2 and 3 have the best views.
