“Small Museum worth a look”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

I am a local resident to Cairns and I was fascinated by the historical items on display particularly "Cairns during the World War 2 Years" , lots of maps and photos and memorabilia. The Cairns City Council needs to invest more funds into this Museum and at least fix the roof of the building which leaks like a sieve in the wet season. I think a lot more can be done to preserve the many items on display and archived. A change of display/theme from time to time would be good for returning visitors. The museum has a lot of potential and its in the heart of Cairns. Worth a visit for a very small charge.

“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

This small central Cairns museum is packed with interesting displays and we spent an enjoyable hour learning about the history of Cairns and surrounding areas. The displays cover the settlement of the area, the war years, the Chinese immigrants and their influence on Cairn's development, mining and gold digging, and developments and inventions in technology and transport. It's excellent value. I'd allow an hour.

“Catch up on history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

I enjoyed my time seeing all this Museum had to show about early Cairns and the area. Although not big it had a lot to show. As well as the WW2 display which interested me. Another must do, as its right in the centre of the town centre, across from Hyde Hotel.

“Interesting museum centrally located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Expect to spend at least an hour looking at all the exhibits. They have a range of interesting things here including aboriginal, aviation, communications, dentistry, mining, farming, etc. It costs $5 for adults, $3 for children, $13 for family of four. It is however only open Monday-Saturday 10.00 a.m.- 3.00 p.m.

Thanks Beachabout for your review and information about the Museum. We are a very proud, volunteer organisation and the feedback is incredibly helpful.

I just wanted to correct the opening hours you cited. We are open Mon-Sat 10am to 4pm. As much as possible we accommodate later comers with free entry or a free pass for another day, if there isn't time to see the whole museum.

Regards
