“Interesting Train Ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014

It was a unique experience when we arrived at the train station. I felt traveling back in time to the 20's. The journey itself took about 1.5 hours, but for me who enjoyed the scenery along the way the time was just flying. It was great, we also got a chance to stop for 10 minutes at Baron Falls to take photos. Kuranda Village was also interesting, they had souvenir shops, bird park and butterfly sanctuary but we chose to explore the rainforest there with an amphibian duck tour. My sons love it! We learned more about rainforest ( we also have rainforest back home) but it was kind of different doing it on the amphibian car. The cable car was recommended to get back from Kuranda Village after tiring journey in Kuranda Village as it only took 45 minutes. We may not revisit Kuranda but I would recommend to anyone who visit Cairns for the 1st time.

“History and scenery on the same trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

The train was a wonderful experience, everyone was so helpful and including. That feels rather good when one has travelled halfway across the planet, I cannot find one single negative word to say about it!

“Step back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

We booked our tickets at the info centre in Cairns. We had a job to find the station as it is situated through the back of a shopping mall! The train dates back to the victorian era I think. Worth a photo. The trip up to Kuranda is dotted with photo worthy scenes and Kuranda village is lovely. Glad we did the trip.

“Good history but very slow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

We took the train up to Kuranda. It was fun and history was interesting, view was very nice but the train itself was very slow. We went in the summer so it was a bit warm in the car. Overall it was OK to do once but I probably won't need to visit again.

Kuranda is way too touristy for us. We ended up visiting the bird world because we really wanted to see Cassowary. It was good overall (although we generally avoid a "zoo-like" setting. We eventually discovered the river walk just off the train station which was wonderful. It was along the Barron river with hardly any people, shady with big trees and quite a few birds.

“Fun Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

My daughter and I chose Gold Class from Kuranda to Cairns. The staff were really nice. The station at Kuranda has a lovely shaded area to relax in while waiting to leave.

We had seats on the right hand side (in travelling direction) and if I had a choice I would have taken the left hand side, better views. We had to excuse ourselves to get photos.

We chose to go up by SkyRail, which was interesting because our taxi driver hadn't been in Cairns long and wasn't sure where to go.

We went from the top straight through to Cairns which was a bit of fun. We weren't sure where we were at the end, but walked around the outside of the carpark of the shopping centre and found our way.

The whole trip took up the day.
