“Excellent stay and super helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2009

This is the big brother to the Traveller's Oasis. It is excellent and very well run. Anna and Phil were lovely and helpful. It has a nice clean kitchen, nice rooms and a great pool. It's a bit further out than most hostels, but they run lots of free shuttle buses to Cairns each day. You also get offered a free meal at the Woolshed in town which has $5+ upgrades for other meals. If you can't get in here got to Traveller's Oasis and vice versa. You can't beat staying in these two places in Cairns.

Can not fault this place at all. Great price, the best staff, unbelievably helpful, clean, homely. This is the best hostel we have stayed in in Australia. Nothing is too much trouble Cathy and Gabe who own the place. All the staff were happy and helpful - especially Phill. The place is clean and has great facilities. Free evening meal. Dont be put off by the fact it is slightly out of town - there are plenty of free shuttle buses to and from (but it only takes about 30mins to walk to the esplenade).

Tonight is our last night in Tropic days after spending nearly 2 weeks there. The hostel is clean, inviting, and the staff are extremely helpful and kind geniune people - they always have time to talk to you and help you out - whether it be about the local area, booking trips, and even looking for work. We have made so many friends here and the hostel is the best one we have stayed in so far. It will be hard to beat! Location is great too, just outside the town centre so you get your peace and quiet and only a 5-10 minute walk away - or you can get the free shuttle buses that run regularly back and to through the day and evening. Tropic Days feels like a home from home and we will definatley be back! Keep up the good work!

Lovely place to stay, really clean, friendly people, 15min walk to city centre of cairns, airport pick up on arrival, rooms clean, beds nice. not to much bad to say except the receptionist was a bit annoying and the hostel neighbours keep there dogs in cages so they bark all night - not good if your a light sleeper. But really enjoyed my stay.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a 4 bed dorm. The room was roomy, clean, and the guy came in and cleaned it every day. The hostel itself is very quiet - they have a policy of no noise after 10pm which was great, and a bus to take you into town around 9 if you want to go party. There are also buses throughout the day as its a little further out of town than most other hostels - not a bad thing.
The staff at the hostel were amazing... so friendly, included everyone in everything, which made it feel like a nice comfortable place to be.
They hold a Aussie BBQ night on a Monday which is an absolute MUST DO - it was awesome with 4 different traditional meats, salads, pasta, rolls etc. Then there were games afterwards in the garden and a digeridoo competition which was very amusing.
They have good facilities to cook for yourself, but you also get a free meal voucher every night for WoolShed in town where you get a good sized pasta dish for free or can upgrade for a few dollars to other meals.
In all its a fantastic hostel. If you are going to Cairns to party 24/7 stay at Gilligans, this is not a big party place. If you want a friendly, intimate, fun and comfortable place to stay that is affordable then this is the place. I would definitely recommend, and definitely return.

Very friendly staff who make you feel welcome. Double room was big with comfy bed.
Outside the room there's a pool surounded by palm trees and hammocks to chill out in the day time. They have a cool BBQ night where you can try croc and kangaroo. Pizza night is great...all you can eat. You also get to try playing a didge if your brave enough and not worried about farting noises. ha ha. They have a mini bus that runs several times a day to the city centre or a 20 min walk.
Will stay here again. Got the trpoic lifestyle here.

We had an amazing stay at Tropic Days. The couple who run it go out of their way to make you feel welcome and organise entertainment every night - the "Croc & Roo BBQ" was brilliant. The place is clean, the rooms are a decent size and have pay-as-you-go air con. They provide a complimentary shuttle bus into the town and it is about a 20mins walk back which is doable after the sun goes down. I could have stayed here for the entire year of our trip! Unfortunately it sets your expectations too high and we ended up being disppointed with everywhere we stayed after that - my boyfriend was sick of hearing me say - "It's just not the same as Tropic Days, is it??!!!" :)
