“Its looking tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2011

I stay at Rydges because of the brand, but this hotel is in need of a refurb. The cupboards were damaged from water and splitting apart, the air conditioner did not work properly and the tiles in the ceiling were broken and outside the door were missing.
The pool area is very nice and the restaurant and common areas are good. It was just let down by the room.

The price was reasonalbe so think I had value for money.

Although the Suit that we stayed in was clean & comfortable it was in desperate need of a major facelift chipped paint worn tiles cracked grout doors that didnt close properly and sliding doors that were difficult to slide just to name a few. Good central location, friendly staff and great value for money

Dear Grantr, Plaza's friendly team will love that you made mention of them thank you. Our central location certainly is handy when you need to stay in sunny Cairns. A well deserved refreshment program for our rooms is underway that will certainly address your concerns.
As the new manager at Rydges Plaza I’m looking forward to more feedback on our staff, the hotel and our swanky Lilo bar on level 3.

I look forward to welcoming you back one day soon

Have stayed in quite a few places in Cairns for stop overs and this is definitely the worst at a 4 star standard. Very shabby looking hotel in major need of a refurb - I hope one is on the way. The room I stayed in had antiquated aircon - very noisy - water stains on tiles and carpet and warped timber robe with more water stains - also curtains that don't fit the window and let in the morning light. Was at least glad I wasn't too close to the other side of the hotel which has major noise problem from club close by. Won't be staying there again and would now think twice about other Rydges accommodation.

Dear Adelaide guest, Central Cairns certainly can be vibrant on the weekends, I can only guess that this was the night of your stay, I am so sorry your experience was not enjoyable nor up to standard. We are always looking to meet guest preferences (quiet room, top floor etc) via the details in our Rydges Priority Guest program. Perhaps you would like to contact me direct so that I can ensure your profile is updated.
With a renewed focus on our rooms and our very comfortable Dream beds I hope that one day you may reconsider Plaza for your affordable and convenient city hotel.
Your comments are very important and provide this new management team with valuable information to improve this property.

Regards

This hotel in general was a lovely hotel to stay at, the rooms were clean, the staff were friendly and the views over the city were great.
Our room was on the top floor, and on the Mon-Thursday nights of our holiday the hotel was a great location- However- On The Fri/Sat and Sunday night of our stay the pool side bar was open...this club is open till 12, which means until then the music is so loud that you cant get to sleep, with deep base sounds constantly hammering your room, then on top of that there are people squealing and yelling around the pool area because the bar is actually outside below all the rooms! Our room was on the top floor, and heaven help anyone who was staying on one of the lower floors as the noise in our room was unbearable!! On the plus side the beds were very comfortable being the dream beds.. However i could not recommend this hotel to anyone else who was actually wanting to sleep...If you are young and wanting a hotel in the cbd and not planning on going to bed till after midnight, this is the hotel for you! as the actual hotel room was very nice and the staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: noise from the bar is VERY very loud!

The Rydges Plaza Hotel is centrally situated downtown, a $25 taxi ride from the airport. I was greeted by a very efficient lady at the front desk and then proceeded up to my room. Unfortunately upon entering the room I noticed that the airconditioner was noisy so I requested an alternative room. My new room had a quiet airconditioner, king size bed and nice clean bathroom.

Maintenance does need to pay more attention. The desk light while working wasn't adjustable as the mechanism was broken. The Philips LCD TC is mounted in the wall and they have conveniently placed RCA, HDMI, VGA and USB ports on the wall. TV quality was very disappointing and blotchy.

The hotel has a pool and sauna on the 4th floor - which is nice. While they don't have an in-house gym, guests get complimentary access to a 'real' gym just down the road (which is better than most hotel gyms).

The rooms are spacious and the desk and powerpoints are all located nearby making it a good working environment while away from the office.

this hotel had desent staff 'but' the hotel was like going through a time-warp back to 1986... & keep in mind there is a nightclub downstairs & every drunk patron is welcomed to jump in the pool clothed or not. the club has music PUMPING till about midnight 'then' you hear yelling, cursing & jibberish till about 1am. we had to be moved out of the room because the sofa bed had been damaged by the previous occupiers. FILTH all over the room... i dont want to alarm people but by the photos i have taken and supplied (you be the judge) looks like fecies built up over an amount of time on the back of the bathroom door. nothing in the room was new or undamaged besides the toilet paper... but if the paper was old it would not surprise me.

I recently stayed at the Rydges Plaza for a relaxing weekend away with my work colleagues. The location is right in the heart of the CBD making it the perfect spot to stay. The rooms are big and offer nice modern furniture. The pool is large and has plenty of comfortable/shaded seating. The buffet breakfast was quite delicious and the food tasted nice and fresh. My favourite thing would have to be the beds. I have stayed in quite a few hotels around Cairns/Port Douglas and these beds stand out from the rest. The only thing I can fault is the bathroom is quite old. Other than that it was an amazing stay. Thanks Rydges!!!
