We stayed here the week before going to Sydney to be married. It was a beautiful apartment. Reading other reviews leads me to wonder if we got one of the better ones as we had two windows in the kitchen/lounge as well as the balcony, so lots of sunlight. The bed was very comfortable, the place was so clean and OK the kitchen was tiny, but are you going to cook a three course meal on holiday! Just downstairs are all the facilities you'd need, shops restaurants, banks. I'd definatly stay here next time I come to Cairns.

This apartment hotel is right on the water at Cairns across the road from the lovely lagoon swimming area. The rooms are spacious with large balconies and spa baths. There is limited kitchen facilities with a microwave oven and two hob electric top. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. The downside of this hotel is there is no daily room cleaning included in your accommodation fee ! this is extra and they charge up to $52 per day for room clean, towel change and bed making etc. You even have to ask at reception for a new loo roll !! for the price asked at full rates these things should be included. If you want full hotel services included in the holiday price find somewhere else ! but if these things don't worry you and you want views across the lagoon give it a go.

My son and i stayed here for 6 nights - disappointed was the feeling - we were situated on the right hand side of the building - ie no sun in the afternoon - also on the same side as the night markets a hostel with noisy air conditioning - the pool is not heated and so unable to take advantage, the unit, although it said it was a full kitchen this amounted to a double plug in hot plate!!! washing machine but no drier!!! all in all the accomodation was distinctly average - its time they updated

My mother and i stayed at Royal Harbour for 7 nights during March 04 and it was fantastic! It is situated right above the markets on the esplanade and it's the best position of all the hotels! The Lagoon is right across the road, the Pier where all the boats take off is a short stroll, and there are so many little cafes and restaurants to choose from. Our apartment was 704 - right on the end which was good because it was bigger than the other rooms and had alot more windows which opened up the room to see all the other sights ( we also checked out room 601 - much wider views however felt a bit cramped as the only light coming in was from the screen door leading onto the balcony - no other windows). We had magnificent views of the lagoon, the ocean and the mountains which was absolutley breathtaking. The apartment is all tiled which is much cooler and we received a mini service everyday which was a surprise - fresh towels all the time! a couple of downsides - our apartment was near a few air conditioned vents from the nearby restaurants which did make it a bit noisy sometimes, but we kinda shut it out. Also, there is no dryer - a bit of a hassle when the tropical rain starts. You can walk anywhere from the hotel - so easy and takes minutes to all the great places like the Reef Casino. All up it was a great place to stay and i'd definately return. Also, try out the Great Adventure cruise to the great barrier reef - the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Also, take the skyrail - its alot of fun and with great views. Try driving to Palm Cove and Port Douglas - great scenery there. And try the buffet at the Sofitel (reef casino). If you join up at the casino (takes 2 minutes) you get a great discount on the buffet!
