“Great resort, shame about the rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2005

We stayed here on our honeymoon and loved the tropical setting. The service from the staff was excellent but the rooms need refurbishment and were abit of a let down. The pools were lovely, we only had breakfast at the hotel which was good if slightly overpriced. The shuttle bus was very handy but would be better if it ran into the evenings.

Two different stays over a two week period after diving on the Barrier Reef for a week. The first stay was one night in a kinda crummy little room that had a weak air conditioning quality. The next stay was two days in a really nice room right off from the back pool area. The place has a couple of nice pools to swim in and the dinning was good, with a few quirks. This place is a bit outta town so you have to depend on the little shuttle bus to get you downtown, which does not run after 6:00. I think I would try to stay closer in, as there were some nice looking hotels in that area. However, if you got kids it might be nice to just let em have the run of the place and not have to worry about being in town so much.

Stayed here on our honeymoon.
We originally asked for an up grade but the staff were unable to help us.
We were put in a standard room which felt like something out of a japanese WW2 POW cell.
We did complain to reception who found us a colonial room which was much nicer.
The staff here were extremly polite and helpful and we had a fantastic time.
The thing that stands out above all is the amazing grounds that are within the hotel, it was a tropical paradise quite literally outside our bedroom door.
The breakfast is extensive if not a little pricey.
i would recommend this resort but please do not stay in the standard room.

A very pleasant hotel. Having read some reviews by people who had stayed here, I was a little concerned. However, I could understand where the comment "just like Butlins" came from. The rooms although clean, could do with a little refurbishment. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The Homestead Restaurant breakfast was a little pricey but being so far out of the centre of Cairns, we were left with little choice. I was relieved to find though that it wasn't as bad as some people had said in their reviews.

Had a problem with ants in the patio area. A man came to spray. Problem seems to be the palm tries planted in the patio areas are filled with small brown ants. The cement walls and parking areas are filled with green biting ants and watch where you park your car. Bird droppings hit my car. The food was great, both braekfast and dinner. People were great with directions and getting tours setup. Other than the ants, I enjoyed our visit.
